Just to make it a bit easier, you don’t need to look at the needle on the ND during this procedure as the scan would be too big. But instead if you look at the white needle down the LOC indication, it’s the top of the needle on the ND, so keep it between the (pink)heading bug for small correction 😊 Thank you for the video very useful !

Amazing tutorials. Where are the fly by wire and trim indications on the PFD? How to display them?
@CaptainNav5 жыл бұрын
The FBW indication is displayed in cyan (blue) on the speed "tape". It is something specific to the simulation you can select in the settings. We don't have it in the real aircraft since there is more feedback on the controls.

Hello Captain Nav, quick question, do you turn off auto throttle on a real 777, while doing manual landing? I read that boeing recommends the autothrottle to be on, this handles any sudden gusts of winds. I have seen some pilots disable them. Please advise. BTW a very smooth landing, thank you.
@CaptainNav5 жыл бұрын
The autothrottle stays on even for a manual landing indeed...and it seems to be a Boeing recommendation in the Flight Crew Training Manual. The only time I would see no autothrottle is in the simulator for training purposes. However, it has been argued here before that some airlines disconnect the autothrottle for landing, so it is possible. It depends on the airline procedures I guess...

Do you use rudder inputs to land in severe crosswinds? I've noticed that the autopilot uses a lot of rudder inputs during crosswind landings. For example: with winds pushing the plane to the right, the autopilot uses the right rudder pedal combined with turning the yoke to the left. I was wondering if pilots also use this technique.
@CaptainNav3 жыл бұрын
Yes you need to use a bit of rudder in a crosswind landing. Thr best way to manage a crosswind landing, in my opinion, is to fly the approach with a crab (nose into the wind), decrab in the flare (straighten the nose) and use a bit of downwind aileron. This should work out nicely.😃👍

Hey...thanks for watching.👍 I came across this problem recently with the American Airlines livery. IIRC you need to go into the options and find "minimum runway length" or something similar. Change it to a smaller value (let's say 7500 feet). It should get rid of the spurious GPWS warning. Let me know how you get on with that.

How did you get the diamonds on the left PFD before hitting APP/LOC? What are those? When do you hit APP or LOC?

Great video, but why do you only show half the cockpit, to get an overall understanding what goes on, I only see the PFD and the ND.

You need to keep looking at the instruments otherwise it would not work if I move "the camera" around.

Good day, I hope you are well. Out of curiosity, why do you regard flying with manual throttle as dangerous? I would argue that any sufficiently trained pilot should be able to handle speed control him/herself and even that you should every now and then disconnect the autothrottle so that you are used to manual thrust, should it not be available some day.
@CaptainNav3 жыл бұрын
This was a joke...one of the instructors when I learned the 777 said that flying without the autothrottle was dangerous. I think he was trying to make a point about the autothrottle wake up function. I agree, we should be able to handle the throttle (and we are)!👍

Thanks for this - I wonder if there's a way to fly ILS manually, in other words without using the FMC?? I like to fly this way a lot of the time, VOR etc, and then input the ILS Frequency and course setting on NAV1 and hit the APP button at the right time. I have all the PMDG aircraft but not sure if this way of flying/landing is possible without using the FMC? Thanks if you have the time to respond :)
@CaptainNav7 жыл бұрын
+Cllr Grant Stillman To tell the truth, the B777 works along with the FMC. You use the FMC to tune the ILS, etc...There are no radio navigation buttons... With a B737, it is maybe easier to just tune the ILS and set the course.

Do u pitch for attitude or is it the other way?
@CaptainNav4 жыл бұрын
Not sure exactly what you mean but yes pitch and attitude are more or less the same. It is your position relative to the horizon.

Bonjour Captain! Have you uploaded a video of raw data take off, level accelerations clips and descents and especially steep turns? Can you explain what you mean by trimming for speed? How is it different from normal pitch trim? Please explain this with regards to fly by wire sensitivity.
@CaptainNav4 ай бұрын
Hi... no I haven't uploaded other "raw data" videos as it is not really something we do. On the B777, because it is a fly by wire aircraft, we trim for speed. This is the way it works, unlike conventional aircraft you trim for pitch to relieve pressure on the yoke. The simulation allows you to display where the trim speed is (not the real aircraft)
@MSA35684 ай бұрын
@@CaptainNav so the magenta triangle next to speed scale is the trimmed speed?
@CaptainNav4 ай бұрын
No the trim speed shows a blue FBW. I am not sure if it is on the video but on my more recent videos it is there. You can enable the FBW to display in the options.👍
@MSA35684 ай бұрын
@@CaptainNav merci beucoup! I learn't something new today. As it is FBW when executing a steep turn for 180/360 degrees (Airline ASSessments 😬🎯) you minimise control inputs after acquiring the right flight condition attitude with the slight increase in Pitch ~(3 deg) and increase of N1 ~5-8% and fly by wire will keep that attitude if bil turbukence or pilot oscillation...correct? I assume the FBW works similarly to Airbus but with no auto trim and no auto thrust but are protected from bank angke experience, over speed or app to stall and g- load prot?
@CaptainNav4 ай бұрын
The blue FBW is not in the real aircraft. For normal turns, indeed there is no need to pull the yoke. For steep turns you have to disconnect the PFC's and fly in direct mode. In that case you do have to increase the pitch a little bit and add some thrust.👍

How do we take care of the cross wind as keeping Loc in centre in manual landing is bit difficult
@CaptainNav4 жыл бұрын
Try to find a heading that keeps the localiser depending on the crosswind. Use the navigation display to keep the trackline on the runway centreline.
@MSA35684 ай бұрын
Once the localized has stopped moving that is the heading to keep. If parallel bring the LOC to the center and return to the heading that stopped the LOC. put the Heading bug on that Drift heading and any further deviations due to changing wind velocity accommodated within the heading bug width. If visual distribute attention outside and on the ILS needles. Pay attention to what the wind vector is doing to help you anticipate drift as well as rate of descent corrections to maintain glide slope as it is ground speed dependent. Don’t forget to keep thrust setting in your scan as well as pitch which you should know as every aircraft has its magic numbers.

Hello, How do I get my pmdg 777LR across into my fsx or Lockheed p3dv4. I’m at a complete loss and have spent hours today but no joy. I am currently a 777 pilot and specifically bought the 777LR to practice my raw data as I have a check coming soon, but I am not computer savy at all and need some serious help. Many thanks. Daz
@CaptainNav5 жыл бұрын
Have you already installed the PMDG 777 on your computer or are you looking to transfer it from FSX to P3D? If you just purchased it, as far as I remember, it should be just a matter of downloading it from PMDG's website and installing (there should be an installer) straight into your simulator, either FSX or P3D (NOT both!).
@dazanthony91985 жыл бұрын
Captain Nav thanks for your reply. I have it up and running. But sometimes the auto throttle advances once I engage the auto throttle switch and not press TOGA. Any ideas why? Also I’ve saved a flight departing on runway 12R in Dubai. FMC fully loaded, then when the flight loads, it immediately crashes on the runway before I’ve even started rolling. Have you experienced this? Thanks Daz
@HolyOrangeJuice5 жыл бұрын
@@dazanthony9198 in the pmdg options on the fmc. Go to simulation. Find the option about manually overriding auto throttle. Always, hold only, never. I set mine to never. Reason? My throttle can make minor movement without touching it. With cancels the auto throttle and the Sim tries to sync the in game throttle to yours on the desk. Also pmdg is a heavy heavy simulation. Usually best to just use the default hotstart on a runway of your choice. If you're looking for super fast flight.

How is flying without the autothrottle „dangerous“? At Lufthansa it‘s SOP to also disconnect AT when you‘re disconnecting the AP.
@CaptainNav4 жыл бұрын
One of the instructors when I was learning the 777 was saying it was dangerous to disconnect the autothrottle. I always thought it was funny, hence the quote in the video. Our SOP is to keep the autothrottle engaged at all times. Coming from the 737, I guess he was trying to put it in our brain to keep the autothrottle on.
