Very helpful video thanks. May I ask where your visual focus is before and during the flare? In the sim, I like to focus on the end of the runway in about the last 50 to 100 feet of the descent, but glance at the PFD as I initiate the flare, then back to the end of the runway. Is that Ok, or should my focus be entirely on the end of the runway just before and during the flare?
@CaptainNav3 жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for stopping by. What you are doing sounds good to me. It is ok to have a very quick look at the PFD (let's say at 70 feet) to make sure everything is ok but otherwise you need to look outside👍

When you land do not look at the instruments, look towards the middle/end of the runway to judge the flare. You should see the nose go up a little bit, but not too much. If you float, it might be because you are too fast too.

Hello sir! I have a question, what is your weight when you performed this landing? I selected the short range fuel amount but my stall speed is still very fast at 160 knots so i normally have to do my landing at 170 knots atleast. How can you fly at 150 knots in this video? Thanks in advance :D
@CaptainNav4 жыл бұрын
I think the weight here is about 235t. It is a good thing to select the short range fuel, but what do you want in the payload? The maximum weight for landing is 251290kgs so you need to make sure your aircraft weight is below that. You also need to select a vRef for flaps 30. Let me know!

Hello, Captain! I'm wondering why the approach speed needs to be VREF + 5?
@CaptainNav5 жыл бұрын
5 knots is the usual increment added to the VREF. This is to take account of the speed loss when flaring and bringing the thrust back to idle during the flare. You start the flare at VREF+5 and touchdown at VREF (ideally). Does it make sense?

Not_A_Pro the cause of overheating is because you use manual brake during rollout in your joystick or whatever youre using. but when you use autobrakes, its just indicates "brake temp" in the eicas. you can also see your brake temp in the gear page. mine usually heats into 6
@CaptainNav7 жыл бұрын
+Dane Jones The brake temperature should never get to 6, unless you are very heavy and brake like crazy. I suggest using the autobrake system with a setting of 2 or 3. Don't forget to use reverse thrust, that will keep the brakes cooler.

I don't know where else to ask to resolve a problem I've been having. But recently, very consistently, somewhere from top of decent to landing I'll get a random max thrust from the plane that over speeds and then I have to manually move my throttle down to correct it. All while A/T button is highlighted and auto throttle was working the entire flight. All of which without touching the throttle to cause such an action. This time I was coming in for the ILS 34R at KSEA. Just as I was about to hit the approach button or as I was hitting it the plane speed up to over 300 knots when I had it manually set to 220 or so and it was flying very smooth. Suddenly throttle without me touching it goes maximum thrust and causes me a lot of issues. I don't understand it. I pulled my throttle back and hit the A/T button a few times and got the plane under control. The A/T button was just fine. Green. Good to go. I don't know what happened. EDIT: I did some further testing and I still don't know how to resolve it or if it is an actual issue. I set my plane up at 20000 feet on autopilot and I could move my throttle without it messing with the auto throttle. My throttle was not giving input. Then as I messed with the altitude knob it started to take my throttle input at some point. I couldn't pinpoint where but now we know I'm not crazy and I would like to get to the bottom of it in case people have the issue in the future. At some points in a decent my throttle also didn't give any input to the plane. Auto throttle was doing it. So whatever the problem is it has to do with a decent and the plane suddenly taking throttle inputs from my throttle instead of the auto throttle system.
@CaptainNav8 жыл бұрын
+XBOXORANGEJUICE It is definitely strange the aircraft accelerated that much. Check your settings, I think there is an option to disable your joystick throttle when the autothrottle is engaged....I think... might help. Otherwise, I am not really sure what the problem could be. Are you hitting toga inadvertently? What are the modes ln the FMA?
@HolyOrangeJuice8 жыл бұрын
Captain Nav I did some research and will further do more. Asiana airlines crashed at San Francisco because they used FLCH mode on final for visual. That put their autothrottle into the hold or sleep mode. They didn't realize in FLCH the autothrottle if moved for a second or two will go to a standby mode. And there is no automatic wake-up. Since we as sim pilots don't have automatic moving throttles what was happening to me is on the FLCH decent my throttle might jitter or spasm a little. Sending the real throttle in the cockpit to max. Since my throttle is at max after I take off. Where it stays still I land. But now it all makes sense. I'll see if pmdg has options to not allow that to happen. I believe it does.
@CaptainNav8 жыл бұрын
+XBOXORANGEJUICE You are absolutely correct about the Asiana in San Francisco. Hold is a "dangerous" mode, as you pointed out. I also believe you can tweak the settings in the sim.

PMDG Setup > Simulation > Options > Page 2 > A/T Manual Override to NEVER. This will prevent us from accidentally making an adjustment to our throttles when in FLCH mode.
