OK, this video is a product of only a few hours of work and although I put in a few edits, it still feels very raw for my taste. But because a lot of you requested it, I just couldn't say "no". Malakas kayo sa akin eh hahahaha. 😀 I was originally planning to do a full documentary style video for the whole month orientation period all the way to the Oathtaking and including interviews and explanations as to why this is the style of training that PMMA implements. I'll still be doing that so it will be worth waiting for. So stay tuned!!!

I've been watching your impressive videos and, without exceptions, I like them all. Your series about the PMMA made me wonder what my life would have been had I applied, and been accepted, there in 1957. My father wanted me to be a Mining Engnr. So instead of the PMMA, I enrolled at Mapua where I stayed until 1961 when I decided to enlist in the US Navy before I finished college. Bravo Zulu! Thank you.

It is my dream to be part of PMMA cadets. They design to be tough and to be wise in any situation. But, I'm nearly finish my 3yr academic course. Its hard also, if your parents had a lack of support. Even you only wanted to achieve your goals for the family also.

Thanks for making this video - especially in the pouring rain! Glad to see so many women in the group. I hope they weren't the ones to quit that day. Hopefully they were mentally prepared in advance for the military approach, which can get pretty ridiculous at times. Then again, it might be developing the work ethic which seems to be stronger on your ships than on others! :) This is so interesting! Can't wait for the next one!! Wow! I was a cadet for 4 years in the UK and we didn't do any of that military shit! We had to wear a uniform of blazer, company tie, white shirt and grey trousers, but we soon found out it was to our advantage cos the chicks loved it! All our free time was spent mostly drinking and shagging! And what's the deal with bending over backwards like that? It looks comical but it can't be good for their backs. Interesting to see the difference though. I've sailed with many Filipinos and they were all excellent seamen so it obviously works. I wouldn't have lasted 5 mins in that regime but I still managed to become 2nd Eng. before I quit and started on oil rigs.

A year later I was one of the ones standing in front of a bunch of new cadets wondering which ones would fail and which ones would excel. I wonder how many good, technically capable people are intimidated into leaving by the arrogance of the people shouting at them. I'd normally associate that with the military navy and not the merchant navy.
@ChiefMAKOi5 жыл бұрын
This school does not train cadets exclusively for the merchant navy. As government scholars, they are required to be commissioned as officers in the Navy Reserves and a few also sign up for the regulars in both the Navy and Coast Guard. I know it's complicated but they know what they signed up for and passing through this for free education and excellent employment opportunities is a great deal for those who choose not to be intimidated.

I bet it's very good walking up and down the ranks as a career chief engineer with vast experience, knowing once you were that bright eyed slightly nervous new officer recruit. I bet even better when you were an instructor. Nothing better going some form of military basic training. The discipline and skills acquired at a young age, follow you for life. Is there a Chief Engineering position as a Commodore of training or in a shipping company, A go to guy for Ship Chief Engineers can go to etc. Like a Ships Captain on a cruise ship can become a Commodore if the shipping line etc. Or is it a role not seen much these days?
