Surely it was easy enough to understand. Saying that there was high growth when they left office does not contradict her comment that businesses are responsible for growth. @@danialdini6113 The entire policy of the Tory government for the 14 years it was in power was socialism for the rich, austerity for the poor. Money went straight from the government to the hands of big banks, wealthy financiers, and mega corporations, where it went back into the pockets of the politicians who voted for those policies.

Norway introduced a wealth tax and it led to billionaires moving to Switzerland and a net loss in tax revenue. You can't tax wealth without it being a net loss in tax unless there is a global cooperation for a wealth tax. So unless that happens, it would be dumb to introduce one as the world is too globalised.

I'm sure you already know, but don't expect any radical change from how things were before. This government are just maintaining the status quo of spending money in the private sector, such as the third Heathrow runway and Oxford corridor. These are just dead-ended vanity infrastructure projects where the only material gain will be seen by developers, not really members of the public. Just your usual right wing tactic of resorting to calling everything they want to seem bad "socialism". Also the left need to fight against the idea that the term "left wing" is inherently bad. Paid holiday, NHS, minimum wage, caps on working hours, social security, state pensions etc etc are ALL left wing ideas. None of those were put forward by the right wing. Everything people actually value in modern society came from the left wing.

@@stevenanderson9774strikes are called by union members. The bar for calling a strike is higher than the bar we set for leaving the EU. Unions provide representation for workers being treated unfairly , suffering from injury, industrial disease. They do so much more than just call strikes. They use their power to negotiate better pay and conditions for hundreds of thousands of ordinary people, the people who Farage pretends to be so much in favour of. Perhaps if management weren't so exploitative then a union wouldn't need to call a strike. That's how poor management inconveniences you. . You know all the inconvenience people had to go through for us to have sick pay, holiday pay, maternity leave. People died, fighting for that for an ungrateful little sh like you. That growth was built on net migration of 906,000 in 2023 giving the economy a slight bump. In Jan 2024 the BOE was predicting static to no growth in 2025 and inflation climbing to 2.75% So no the economy wasn't the fastest growing in the G7 it was on it's knees due to brexit boosted by migration

Badenuff needs to take a class in economics. It is basic economics that growth can be attained by having a fair tax system where the rich pay a lot more in tax than the poor. Some people have so much wealth they cannot spend it all. Instead they hide wealth and send their money abroad. Tax the rich far more. If they leave the uk so be it. In Scandinavia they have a fairer system and their rich people didn't scuttle away.

You can’t “trickle down” your way to growth either without checks and balances. The same business’ that are complaining about checks and balances were hoovering up tax payer money when Covid hit to not go belly up. If you’re financially secure but the thought of paying more tax drives you away, imagine how millions of financially insecure regular taxpayers feel. If your financial security can only be sustained by the employment and financial insecurity of the working class, how long is that sustainable for?

It's redundant now to decry her arrogant, smug condescension, which is so ludicrously out of place given the dreadful record of the government of which she was a part. Thank heavens she is unlikely to every occupy 10 Downing St. The business owners can't grow their businesses or the economy if workers don't get a living wage.
