What's amazing is joe does all of this while screaming his lungs out. dude's a complete monster with vocals even when he's tapping.

Gojira are truly masters of rhythm. They employ these unexpected and weird sounds from the guitars to accent the magnificent rhythmic patterns underneath. And those barred 4ths they use often in place of regular power chords creates this very unnerving sound in my opinion, especially when they are played chromatically. Considering the themes of Gojira's songs, they usually fit the mood very well and create a nice resolution when the chorus goes to regular power chords for example :)

Fun fact, Joe Duplantier often makes hard up/down motions when he holds the neck of the guitar. He said in an interview it's because he prefers bending the neck itself in place of whammy pedals or levers. Of course a pedal does some work, but he can freely just throw it around for very natural sounding pitch changes. He said it helps keep the body of the guitar clean, to make room for his, at times, insanely fast and heavy strumming. Bending the neck in place of a whammy bar is as metal as it gets. Joe is a monster lol.

It's so fun to see someone so passionate about Gojira talk about them! I went to see them in Cardiff just over a month ago and they blew me away. Side note, my favourite song is Oroborus! The tapping in that song is so melodic and powerful it just speaks to me :D

I didn't get a chance to say hi but I saw you at the City Hall gig. Hope you enjoyed as much as I did. Always wondered how they did the riff in Magma, I thought there was some funky effects going on. Great vid Dagan!

Truly awesome video. I love Gojira and also saw them live over here in Australia not long ago. Outstanding band live. 😁 On their earlier albums, you can really hear the Morbid Angel influence in their riffs, and even pick scrapes too.

Really well thought out video, Gojira are incredible. Love that Joe sings about stuff that really matters, too. They have a lot in common with Metallica for being the best/easiest to learn to play guitar on while not only being extremely fun to play, but also the best songs of theirs to learn to play happen to be really, really good songs. Another trick they use often is really fun to do, but I can never remember what it is called... you actually do one at 10:48

Would like to see you doing something like this with a Peavey 6505 or a MXR EVH 5150 overdrive pedal. It seems like a big part of the Gojira vibe is massive gain with total technical control. The Blackstar sounds good with the Charvel, but using a lower tier guitar with one of the gain monsters I mentioned may be more budget friendly.

I bought this guitar a few months back. Best neck profile I have ever found on a T-style, but my gawd does it need a tone knob

Looks like it's a winner, just drop new pickups in it. The neck is fantastic, really cool looking wood grain, and typical Charvel playing feel. Doesn't look aggressively like a signature model. Very few Teles with a modern look, a flat radius, heel carve, and most importantly to me, a nice wide nut (1.6875). Seems like all but Fender brands have cramped string spacing.
