I’m a big fan of these videos, but when you don’t have the correct gear in stock, you should consider not doing the video. The sound is too muddy. The Chapman sounds nothing like the $599 US Charvel Joe Duplantier sig and you could have at least used EVH lunchbox amps

Jackson King V KVXT and Marshall DSL40 for Dave. I think in one of his old rig rundowns he said he likes mxr phase 90 and flange pedals. This would be quite a bit under the budget of £1500. I don't think Dave uses pedals often anyways, so you could maybe get away with buying none and buying a better Amp.

@@flagmuffin1221 I wouldn't say From Mars to Sirius was muddy, but definitely raw. What do you mean by TWoAF not being tight in tone and production? Do you think of any specific intrument or song? Just asking out of interest.
@flagmuffin1221
@flagmuffin1221 4 жыл бұрын
@@Kartagoooo TWoAF is a step up in production compared to From Mars to Sirius, but it's still got a rawness to it. When I think "tight production", I think Periphery 3/Juggernaut, because the mix and everything is put together in such a pristine way. Magma went more this way as well - the guitar tones in particular sound much tighter compared to previously.

@justinbrown9910
@justinbrown9910 6 жыл бұрын
They use tons of gear, get some good delay, an amp with reverb, an overdrive to tighten things up. Both mark and misha have affordable sigs, jake not too afffordable but still a cool shout. its cool though because they have some really complex riffs that will be pretty hard to replicate but I think something like that in the future would be awesome. Tight passive pickups, dimarzio BKP(or stock jackson replicas) and Seymour Duncan. And a good combo which can deal with incredible cleans and high gain that is not fizzy.

i have one, it reacts much MUCH better with a quality tube amp than any sort of sims and such, through a tc 50 it does exactly what it should, through BIAS FX it's meh, and i would also say through meh amps it's meh. it's 100% not for adding bass Like whatever this lorenzo guy is saying, it';s there to tame the low end in high gain sound, effectively removing a lil bass

It's not just a great idea, but it's also not too hard either. A good Epiphone Les Paul through a strong solid state amp with some fuzz and octave, and you can figure out the rest rather easily. The only issue I see is that Buzz is known for using 15 inch speakers in his custom Blown cabinets, so I'm not sure if it would sound drastically different with 12 inch speaker amps.

As a Gojira fan, and a french guy, I'd say you didn't do bad, but nor really great either. You came close, but their tone is more precise, agressive and open, yours sounded kinda muffled. It weren't a complete fail, but I think some of the choices you made were off. Like the Chapman. No hate on Chapman, I quite like those guitars, but since they stopped having seymour duncan pickups and started having their own pickups, they stopped sounding like duncans, and one of the absolute need for Gojira, besides the Evh 5150/Peavey 6505 sound are duncans. One big thing that they have and that you comletely overlooked too is delay. They use quite a lot of it, especially for riffs like L'enfant sauvage. This all being said, it is a rather good sound, and I think any death/groove metal band would be rather happy to have that gear. For the songs themselves: you didn't play the Stranded riff properly, a big part of this riff is the gliding between the normal notes and the pitch shifted ones (also, they just play arpeggio, kinda slowly). For Explosia, the "Gojira slide" were kinda off, it's way more squealy in the original, maybe due to the gear sounding darker. And for Silvera, it's actually tapping, which is kind of a staple of their writing, so I'd have liked to see how this rig sounded with tapping. All in all, rather good rig, but could've done better. Can't wait for the by busting the bank version. For suggestions for future episodes: Joy Division Kvelertak (possibly with Joss helping out as they have 3 guitarists) Opeth Leprous Devin Townsend Slayer Megadeth Carcass Nile Morbid Angel Grave Deicide Entombed Orange Goblin Clutch Fu Manchu Truckfighters High on Fire Red Fang Sleep Just basically any stoner band, really Some black metal would be cool too, like Behemoth Darkthrone Mayhem Dissection Alcest Harakiri for the Sky Emperor

I think tones of Justice and master are heavily produced and EQ'ed. It's very hard to sound as smooth thick and powerful with just one guitar in a room.

Having watched the series for quite some time I've noticed that you are using only a few different amps (DSL 40, HT20 Katana). I guess that's because these amps are very versatile and at the same time inexpensive. Nevertheless I feel like a small change of the rules to allow more different equipment to be used would be nice. I would suggest giving every player a free cabinet so that you only need to buy the head. That way good lunchbox amps are in the price range. I think it would also help creating those American High Gain sounds on a budget.

The rakes/scrapes or however you wanna call them, are not played using natural harmonics. The pick is scraped along the string from high to low whilst the left hand mutes the guitar. Look up a tutorial and you'll see what I mean. I'm bringing this up because the Explosia riff sounds awful with the wrong technique being utilised.
@HamsterCaster

I feel these guys may be trying to put their own twist on some of the riffs. Sound like Mastodon was the same. The whole idea is to 'sound like', so why don't they just look up some you tube clips and see how the riffs are played properly, Stranded just sounded wrong to me and the Silvera part is supposed to be tapped.

you could have used an EVH 5150 LBX for $700, a cheap 1x12 for $150, a digitech whammy for $200, and a guitar for $350... and then for christian's rig you don't need the whammy so you could've got a better guitar. it also helps to not play every riff wrong wait i take that back you played the first parts of silvera and stranded right... but that's it..
