do u have reviews about exercises? sports? like rebounding? jump rope? Yoga? breathing? Wim hof method? MMA UFC? intermittent fasting? water fasting? thats all important too. not just reading books u know. put THEORY INTO PRACTICE! knowledge not used is TOTALLY useless. knowledge is power when its used! to succeed: u read - u practice it- u get the result: good or bad. 3 step proces.

Great presentation Brian, you are getting better at this, and glad to see that you have remained committed to your mission. You picked a fine book to review. The few elements you touched on made for a concise and useful summary. Now in regards of the 'basic essence of the book, getting really really good at dancing with that dynamic' of order & chaos, this puts me in mind of a Christian directive: "Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the way that leads to life, and only a few find it." This narrow way that leads to a fulfilling or optimized life, may very well be the same principle teaching that you and Peterson are encouraging others to live by. What would you say are the similarities between treading the 'narrow way of Christ' and the 'path between chaos & order' depicted in the yin/yang symbol?

As an Asian knowledge is very sacred to us and so is the material (books and notes) from which knowledge is derived. We do not need more rules. We need to submit to the rule and reign of Christ who alone can save us from our sins, which is a world of darkness , chaos , and confusion. You can not save yourself. Jesus said "I am the light of the world. He who follows me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life." We do not need a lobster. We need to take the yoke of Jesus and learn Christ who gives us rest. See Matthew 11:28-30

@khalid26765 жыл бұрын
*I am really not that impressed by his book for many reasons, some of which are* *1* ) Its language was not that easy, and the links between the ideas are poorly demonstarted. What does the price's law have to do with us? Does he try to tell us that whatever you do, you cannot change this equation? Does that help us? *2* ) It seems that Peterson himself is so confused. In one hand, he presents the world, rather establishes that the world should be seen by the Darwinian perspective which is very clear in rule 1 & 2, then ironically and without telling us why he tells us that we should act in the contrary. For example, the hierarachy is based on evolution. If so, why would we help others? *3* ) He employed lot of religious symbolism while in fact they are against the rule he tries to make and demonstrate. For instance, he uses the christian concept of the original sin which is by itself very problematic, then he tells us, we have to respect ourselves! Well, christianity tells you that you are nothing because you are born sinner and under the wrath of God. It does not compatible with this idea he tries to make. And there are many things can be said about his book which I would describe it as perplaxing! *Note* : the rules by themselves are not necessarily bad , but the frame he presented them with is really really bad and confusing.

"Peterson’s integration of everything from evolutionary psychology, politics, religion and morality is astounding." I beg to differ. See, e.g. www.currentaffairs.org/2018/03/the-intellectual-we-deserve Brian, I will always respect your positivity and ability to find meaning in everything before you. However, you can do better than elevate Peterson, who though may speak to some important fundamental truths at times, is not worth the baggage -- and also pain -- that comes with him.
@HeroicBrian6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the respectful feedback! Part of a longer chat but even if you don't agree with him (not sure if you've studied his work/read the book), I stand by my statement that his integration of such a broad range of subjects is astounding! Optimize is now free! Sign up/tell your friends! www.optimize.me
@eb-jx6wd6 жыл бұрын
@@HeroicBrian Grateful for your response and open mind. I don't agree with the political undertones that are an undercurrent for a lot of his work, though I don't begrudge those who find that he speaks to something valuable at times. I do, however, believe that being a hero in this moment means that we are careful about what stories we give space for, and that we challenge those who inadvertently (or deliberately) support stories that are harmful or inaccurate. Given Peterson's often disingenuous engagement with "leftism" and too often downright harmful response to trans activism in Canada, I believe that we ought to pay attention to Peterson's political project and especially how it's employed by his many fans. If we want to extract meaning from Peterson's work, we have a responsibility to deal with that which might be toxic, especially when Peterson does so much to, as you say, "integrate" his commentary on a broad range of subjects. Maybe that is a task too difficult for the positive and noble task you've set yourself with Optimize, but given Peterson's tremendous imprint on many young men's minds, the risk is too great to not at least say something. In any event, perhaps this is something you'd be willing to think through out loud in some form, as there is a lot to sort through when trying to find wisdom in a world where its sources might require careful moral navigation.
@HeroicBrian6 жыл бұрын
Thank YOU for your thoughtful and open-minded perspective. To be clear, I have NOT engaged in following the political controversies surrounding his work so I'm being a bit hypocritical when I ask: Have you read his book?! (Laughing as I type that.) Although I don't agree with everything in it, from my vantage point, it's a very (!) powerful call to live a moral and courageous life--something we need a LOT more of in our world. Again, part of a longer chat, etc. but, in my opinion, if more young men (and women) followed the wisdom in his book, we'd live in a better world. With love, -b Optimize is now free! @@HeroicBrian I haven't read 12RfL in its entirety, though I've read a good number of posted excerpts, listened to some of his book-related interviews, and have watched lectures and videos prior to the release of 12RfL. I will easily grant that Peterson can say something of value, just as easily as I will argue that there is a political project poking through that we should pay attention to and confront where it's harmful or untrue. Take, for example, his woefully inadequate discussion of mass shooters, explored in Kate Manne's review. www.the-tls.co.uk/articles/public/jordan-peterson-12-rules-kate-manne-review/ You rightfully asked whether I have basis for offering my own critique, and I feel that I have engaged with his work and 12RfL enough to be understandably wary. I do not expect for you to reverse your praise of Peterson; I just hope that you consider this a good faith attempt for you to, at the very least, review the available criticism and controversy, even if it goes against your general philosophy to avoid such things.
