Great review as always, Brian. My 3 big takeaways from the book: 1 - Find meaning in suffering and in your life. 2 - You always have a choice in how you respond to any situation (so powerful) 3 - You can't chase happiness and success - they must ensue - they are a byproduct of you chasing your passion/purpose/etc. I really like the idea of chasing what your consciousness commands you to do!

Brian, Dr. Frankl was a guest lecturer in my graduate class on Existentialism at the University of Minnesota in 1963. His presentation was very unique. His loss is keenly felt by many.

Brian, such a nice review, thanks, I love the part when you talk about being pro-active, we have a tendency to define ourselves in opposition to stuff. But try to express also your passion for things you love. Be demonstrative and generous in your praise of those you admire. Be pro-stuff, not just anti-stuff.

Hi, i enjoy very much you notes! But I have a question... in another video you uploaded, you recomended to set goals, to have a goal means to think about future achivements and hold in mind what we are looking for. How we supose to have goals if success will only manifest if we forget about it? THX!

Hello Brian Johnson, Base on the Maslow's Hierarchy of Need, what is Viktor Frankl's mental hygiene/wellness and levels of self-actualization during and after his ordeal in Auschwitz? What do you think with applying Rogers' Self Theory or Ellis' Cognitive- Behavioral Theory?
@HeroicBrian
@HeroicBrian 9 жыл бұрын
summer3213 I'd put Frankl at the self-transcended level (beyond self-actualization). He's one of the most inspiring, actualized humans. And, I love Ellis. Cognitive-Behavioral theory and therapy rocks. brianjohnson.me/philosophers-notes/a-guide-to-rational-living/

Aziza Ben Everyone has a purpose and the potential to become whatever lies ahead of them. There is a higher potential that we need to tap into or find in order to feel complete or that we have meaning that’s not pointless to what our psych wants to adhere to.
