I have a PNW cascade and it’s awesome! had some shipping issues from amazon where I kept receiving the wrong size and I actually had several conversations with Aaron, he got the issue sorted out really fast, he even offered me an upgrade to a bachelor seatpost for my trouble. I'm always listening for the "clunk" of my dropper post to be sure it's all the way up. Of course I probably wouldn't have to worry about that as much if the dropper consistently returned at a reasonable rate. That all being said it's really awesome to see affordable alternatives to the big boys in the market. Thanks for putting this thing through the gauntlet and being 100% transparent about the process. And can we talk about that opening tracking shot ... so good. SO good.

Great review. I also put a PNW Rainer dropper on my 27.5+ hardtail. Its been a solid performer. I also own the Thompson dropper which I love. Other than weight and the return rate is slightly slower on the Rainer vs the Thompson, its a great dropper. No play in side to side or grabbing the seat. Very happy with it. I did upgrade the remote to a Wolf Tooth remote and it works flawlessly.

Great little company! I have their Cascade on my fs 29er and love it. Had an issue where the saddle had a bunch of side to side play and Aaron got back to me right away (literally at 9pm at night I received his email) asking me for my shipping info so he could send a replacement. Replacement came with a return label to turn around and send the original unit to him. Have exchanged other emails and always a pleasure to deal with and talk to. While not the cheapest on the market (think the OneUP is currently) I would rather support someone like this with this kind of customer service vs. a larger company like Fox/RS/etc.
@TrailFeatures

Great review! For what it's worth, I went to Lowe's and bought some stair tape. It's what you see in federal buildings etc. on the end of stairs steps, and it's basically a really durable adhesive backed textured material...like coarse sandpaper. It's basically skateboard tape for a fraction of the cost, and it sticks AND STAYS. I have it on both shifter levers, and my KS Lev dropper lever on both of my bikes. For a few bucks...you get several feet of it, and I think it helps a ton with getting grip. You couldn't use one package of it in a lifetime of bikes!

And here I am with a Brand-X Ascend 150mm drop that I bought 5 months ago and I dare say it's better than the rockshox reverb I had previously. Only cost me the equivalent of 137 USD. And now there's even a 170mm drop version for around 170 usd. I also bought a new reverb for my enduro bike which was literally double the price. and had lots of issues with it. The brand-x one is still working flawlessly. Some say that the PNW Bachelor is the exact same post as the Brand-X Ascend.

for the lowest cost dropper you could go with PNW "Ridge" , www.pnwcomponents.com/collections/affordable-trail/products/the-ridge-dropper-post . Adding PNW's new "Loam Lever" remote will pimp it (or any dropper) out for sure ... Haven't used the Ridge to be honest, but the Rainier works so damn well, "takes a lick'n and keeps on tick'n" :-)

@TrailFeatures
@TrailFeatures 5 жыл бұрын
I'm obviously biased towards PNW, but that's because Aaron will bend over backwards to make sure you're taken care of if anything goes wrong with the dropper. Brand-X is cheaper on average, but PNW is slowly refreshing their dropper line-up and slashing prices now that they are putting out higher volumes. The new remote lever that ships with their droppers is MUCH improved, and addressed my comments in the review. It looks like your Scott doesn't have internal routing? In that case, I'd say check out the Cascade from PNW: www.pnwcomponents.com/collections/affordable-trail/products/cascade-dropper-post-125mm-travel-external-routing-30-9-31-6mm-diameters

2:21 it looks robust, but it would be nice to have just use the cable the cable end instead of the black cable end. I got a E*thirteen TRS+ dropper which dues that. but the bad thing with e13 dropper it has play in every direction. but the action is light, but it's quite noisy. also it's easy to service. I will definitely keep PNW in mind, it looks promising, but I am curious about hte cartridge, and service, cus I want to do service myself, it saves me cash, on shipping,service costs, and of course time, so this is why mechanical droppers were interesting to me, and I went for E13 for these reasons. but I don't know how well it will perform long term, but time will tell.

Thanks! Yes, there absolutely are more affordable options out there. The big reason why I'm such an advocate of pnw components is because of the outstandingly high level of customer service that Aaron gives. Nine out of ten times when you email pnw for support, it's Aaron the CEO that responds back. He takes it very personally when he finds out one of his products came off the assembly line defective, and will do everything he can to make it right. I personally feel that the extra $20 to $50 for Aaron's products are worth it when you know that he will absolutely have your back down the road. 😃

Thanks for watching! DNM has some really low cost droppers for sure, but I've seen a lot of mixed reviews on them long term. ☹ One of the reasons I'm a fan of PNW is because they take it personally if one of their products fail. If something does happen, they really work hard to make everything right. You're spending a bit more money with PNW (the dropper is now $199) over DNM, but with a three year warranty you'll get your monies worth down the line.

@@TrailFeatures true, hopefully pnw can get me a new one. Their policy is if it is breaks in the span of 3 days, (in a mechanical) way, then they will give you a new one, or fix it. Hopefully I can get a new one, since my broke the day after it came.

@@TrailFeatures Rebranding is not copying. It´s buying from a factory and putting your own name on it. For example, the Merida-branded Droppers are also from TransX/BrandX( and also cost 20-30 more money)

I will like and subscribe but I must really be cheap because I think $200 is still to much. I think I will try some cheap Chinese dropper and see how that goes first. I'm thinking like $100 or so. Regardless, good review we enjoyed it, and the interview with the guy in another one of your videos. Wow this is bad English. Sorry lol

I had noticed this also, but I can say that PNW was making this style of dropper well before Brand X showed up. PNW also has some outrageously good customer service.

I may have over used the term budget, but I do believe that this is one of the best bang for buck out there right now. You can get droppers for less, but they either don't come with remotes or had to make some compromises to keep the price down.

+Bob Keller This is a very valid point, and is something I wanted to try and address as best I could in the video. I've always said I would not feature products on this channel that I would not be willing to buy with my own money. At no point did PNW try to take the easy way out and say "Well... you did some 'odd' things to the dropper, so its not really our fault.". They also didn't make me sign any paperwork or make any agreements with them on how the video would play out. They were completely hands off. There are already a few people that have comments on how well PNW has treated them. It's pretty amazing that the treatment I got from them is the same they give to everyone else. They are the real deal.👍
