Hey, did you know Part of Your World wasn’t supposed to be in the movie?? It was originally going to be just the reprise and Ariel was supposed to have a song about how desperately she wanted Eric specifically. She didn’t really have an interest in humans in general. I think without that song, Ariel wouldn’t have been so popular and would’ve come off as boy crazy and giving up everything just for a guy.

I think the sequel was Disney's response to the backlash from people that pointed to the real John Smith's awfulness as a person. It's stupid really. They should've avoided basing this lovely film on Pocahontas and just made it a fictional world with two fictional characters, because the animation, music and message is all incredible and worth people's attention. Backtracking and trying to erase what was achieved with the two main characters in the original with the sequel didn't do either movie any favors.

They were definitely kissing. In the the new animated version, we see that just as the two end their duo, right before Nakoma interrupts, they are leaning in towards each other, and had Nakoma not stepped in, this little roughy probably would have made it in. Personally, I wish it had. It would have just...added to the already large bonfire of emotions. But, eh...

I disagree. I think keeping the almost kiss adds to the pain when Pocahontas is forced to leave, and John simply tells her he’ll always be in her heart. Having both this kiss and the hand one is too cheesy imo, and just having the hand kiss adds to the pain of not getting to actually kiss her one more time, so he kisses her hand instead

But then I remember kids in my elementary school would request the teacher to skip the singing part if we were shown a Disney movie on a school day. Oh well, we were all just a bunch of dumb kids anyways. The adult animators wanted this in the film, but I guess the kids got their way.

It was released sometime in the 90s, I don’t know how many copies were sold. But that edition was the first to include the song, while the anniversary edition included an alternate ending for Pocahontas. Unfortunately she still doesn’t end up with him, instead it’s just a reprisal of the song.

Well, he had his reasons for suggesting that the song be taken out (although, as he later recalled, "I was hoping the directors would talk me out of it"), I'm sure. But, you're right, I think that taking "If I Never Knew You" out of the film the first time around was a case of momentary insanity (mind you, though, it does not, by any means, reduce my respect for him); when I watch the film on DVD, I ONLY watch the Special Edition version, which includes the song.

This scene/song was cut from the theatrical release because the test audience loved it too much and it put a very serious situation in to a "children's" movie. Edited back in to the 10th anniversary release and youd never know it was never originally there
@kristinahuchison251111 ай бұрын
Ok, I mean the Lion King showed two on screen deaths lol. And especially Be Prepared literally has the one part which is deliberately designed from a Nazi rally, which unfortunately got cut in the remake of the Lion King because it was deemed too offensive/inappropriate, completely ignoring the entire point of the song and why that scene was in there. And also, Hunchback of Notre Dame literally got away with Hellfire, which is a pretty ballsy move when you actually listen to the lyrics. So I dunno why If I Never Knew You is deemed “too mature/adult” for a Disney movie. Its not like they were taking off their clothes

Are you kidding? Did you even listen to the lyrics? It’s not meant to be relevant to the story. Its all about how deeply John really loves Pocahontas and helping her understand he isn’t afraid to die and would rather die a changed man because of her love than live his entire life still so hateful and blind. This song is also meant to be the calm before the storm, in the middle of all the hatred and war there’s an inner peace that nothing will ever get John to stop loving Pocahontas.

@izzybelle112 I wouldn't say the song was bad. To tell you the truth this song Just around the riverbed and Colors of the wind were like the only good songs that held a deep purpose to the story, and it does carry the story a little, when we get a deeper connection to John and Pocahontas love, which is essential to a Romeo and Juliet storyline. But t it was a good move to take this scene out. It does slow down the plot, and it doesn't add to the story without the ending that followed it.
@kristinahuchison251110 ай бұрын
