Mind Blown!! At 2:47 I had to pause the vid and open Sketchup. "Hide rest of model" just changed my life.

I watch a lot of woodworking videos to pick up tips but your videos on Sketchup are the best. There are trolls everywhere. Keep your videos coming.
@rhwoodshop4 жыл бұрын
Well the way I look at it is, trolls are still activity and if they feel the need to hit the dislike button or give me grief about something that I did then that’s OK, everybody’s entitled to an opinion. It’s up to me to take the good and shut out the bad. Thank You!!!

Drew, I discovered my mistake. Somehow I missed the fact that you have to double-click the component that you want to isolate. I learned a heck of a lot from that one video. I really appreciate the time you took to help and the extremely quick responses. You are like the next door neighbor everybody wishes they had. Thank you.
@rhwoodshop4 жыл бұрын
I’m so glad that you could figure it out. I actually learned that too whenever I first figured out how to use that feature. I thought I was doing something wrong and then I realized you had to click into the edit function of the component to make it work. Thank you so much for the compliment about the neighbor. That means a lot.

I haven't been following your videos on SketchUp but clearly after watching this video I need to go back and start from the beginning. You do an awesome job of explaining what, where, why and how. I downloaded SketchUp on my computer and tried to learn it myself and gave up quickly because I could draw on paper and a pencil faster. I'm definitely going to have to give SketchUp another try!

It’s been a game changer for me. I try to break it down into super easy to understand instructions. Hope you like it.

Rock-n H Woodshop Well this is the first video in the SketchUp series that I watched from start to finish and now I am excited to go back and start from the beginning. I think it is awesome that you are doing this, it is a definite need for people like me that have a hard time teaching ourselves!
@rhwoodshop4 жыл бұрын
Sue Armstrong It was for me too. Now you don’t have to learn the hard way like I’ve been doing. 😉

Hey Drew, as I have said before, your tutorial videos are THE BEST. You have a knack of getting your point across in such a way that it's easily conveyed to us. Slow and steady! !! !!! I don't know if I have missed it but a video on your keyboard shortcuts would be very helpful. You zoom, hide, undo very fast. If not a video, a posting on your website will do the trick as well. Anyway, on behalf of all the "SketchUp Challenged" people on the tube, thanks for doing these
@rhwoodshop4 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for this I am so happy that these videos are working out well for a lot of people. It would give me the motivation to keep doing more. I will say that the hide and unhide quickness that occurred in this video was only because of the setting that I showed you guys in the very beginning. Component edit hide is a nice feature that hides everything fast and unhides it just as fast. However a video on setting up shortcuts would be a good one too I think. I did do a short intro to this in lesson one (first video ever for Sketchup) but I didn’t talk about how to make changes. I will put that on the list.

Sebastopolmark I read every comment that I get and I try and answer everyone. The only time that I was slacking was during my two years of getting my business off the ground. Lots of comments unfortunately went unanswered and unread.

Drew, I followed your suggestion to "Hide Rest of Model" - "View; Component Edit; Hide Rest of Model", but it doesn't work for me. I am using the free version Make 2017. I did notice your GUI is gray. Are you using a different version? Any suggestions?
@rhwoodshop4 жыл бұрын
No I’m using make 2017 too. If you are able send me a vid clip to my email of what you are doing I will see if I can help you.

I seem to have the worst luck lately with pocket holes. My connection that I'm screwing into almost always splits. Am I not holding my tongue right?
@rhwoodshop4 жыл бұрын
It does take a little bit of practice holding that tongue. Not to say that I haven’t had my share of splits from pocket screws
@garybecker44904 жыл бұрын
Wouldn't you put the pocket holes on the outer face of the drawer front so they don't show inside. They get covered by the face panel. That also oreitnts the screws toward the meat of the sides.
@rhwoodshop4 жыл бұрын
Yes that was a mistake on my part whenever I was making the video not thinking clearly. Thanks for clearing it up

Just record a video on your phone of what you’re doing on your computer or you can use a program on your computer to do a screen recording but the phone is going to be the easiest. Email that to me and I can see what you’re doing wrong or what may be going wrong. Also, yes I am using a Mac but that will not affect the problems that you’re experiencing with sketch up

Are usually use both Ed. A quick sketch on paper just to get an idea and then I throw it in the sketch up so I can figure out exactly how much material I need to buy without having to buy too much and take profits out of my pocket. Keep it up dude.
@kamilkurzynowski38363 жыл бұрын
I think you’ve made a slight mistake in the front face. Pocket holes should be at the front of the front face and I’m convinced you place them inside the drawer.
