Yessss!!! I’ve had a lot of people tell me their kids “don’t sit and do activities like mine”, but forget that these videos are EDITED and usually only show the parts where my kids are actively engaged in the activities! I obviously want to show the activity in action for reference, but a lot of times I’m only able to grab a clip of a few seconds to show it because my sons aren’t interested or aren’t doing the activity how I intended it to be, and that’s 100% okay and NORMAL! So easy to forget when we watch anything on social. Thanks so much for your comment! ❤️

Love these ! My son is 22 months and I'm always looking for new ways to keep him busy ! You are so right about the vocab at this age blooming. From 19 months to now he went from using a few words to have so ma y words and speaking in sentence fragments ! We he started putting words together he bestowed the ultimate compliment to me "cool mama" 😂 if only they can stay like this always

Once again, amazing. I saw and saved your 12 month- old activities video similar to this one, then as were searching for the same as our son approaches 18 months old, you popped up and I finally subscribed. I love how thorough you are by hitting all of the developmental areas, amazing communication of the objectives of the activities, and at the same acknowledging that there aren’t these hard and fast rules and timelines. So many other parenting KZbinrs out there try to instill fear in parents by saying how your child NEEDS to be doing xyz by a specific date otherwise they’re delayed….

Every attempt at reading with my 20 month old ends quickly with him trying to bend the book in half and rip the pages out. It breaks my wife's heart. I'm trying to imagine my kid doing that water tub activity and i know all he would want to do is dump the water. Noncooperation is usually how everything goes with him, I'm running out of things to try. I like the golf tee activity, i will give that one a try.

It can be frustrating when we put time into setting activities up for our kids and they don't go as planned! I had this happen with one of the activities in this video - this is totally normal for this age group! In these situations, I try to think ahead for all of the scenarios that can happen and plan accordingly. For example, I try to keep messy/water activities outside to cut down on huge cleanup if my son decides to dump something out of nowhere. But other than that - I try to follow his lead! Even though the activity may not go as you planned, your child is still getting something out of it and LEARNING! Everything is a learning experience for them at this age, which is so cool! I totally get the reading problem! My first son could sit and listen to books from a very young age - my second son wants nothing to do with them and destroys books when left alone with them! Every child is different - and again, this is totally normal. We've found it helps to only leave board books or the foam bath books in his room for independent use and I will read to him when he's crawling around playing something else. They'll come around when they're ready. You're doing awesome providing activities and spending time with your little one! I'm glad you liked the golf tee activity - hope your son did too! Not a silly question! A lot of times I will do this in an online software (Canva) and make them the size I want. You can also scale the size of photos when your print them in your printer settings. Hope this helps a bit. ❤️

I’d stay away from this activity until your child no longer puts things in his/her mouth 😄. You can use whipped cream as a taste-safe option, but that will be much messier/stickier!

Hey Jesy! Great question. Honestly, this varies since every child learns at his or her own pace. I'm a big advocate of play-based learning and learning through real-life situations. Because of this, I don't like to give specific age recommendations since every child is different in how and when he/she learns different skills! I love the method of providing the child with learning experiences and serving as a "guide" for them to learn. You can start out by just talking about the colors or shapes of objects as you come across them while you're playing with your child (for example, if they're playing with a dog you can say "Oooh! Look at that brown dog!" or if something they're playing with is in the shape of a circle, you can say "That's a circle!" and outline it with your finger repeating the word "circle".) That being said, there is no harm in exposing them to things early IF they express an interest in them! For example, I don't explicitly teach letters to my son (he's 20 months), but we have monogramed towels with the letter "D" on them and he would point them out all of the time, so I told him "That's the letter D! D says (and then the sound d makes)". Now he points out the letter D all of the time when he sees it in other situations and says the letter and sound. Basically, there is no harm in exposing them to these things even when they're babies or toddlers, but I definitely believe in seeing how interested and engaged they are with the material and not forcing them or drilling them. Learning anything like shapes, colors, letters and numbers is simply memorization. They are not applying the knowledge of actually using that material at a higher level until they are older (for example, using sounds to put letters together in order to make words or using number sense to add and subtract). In a school setting, children aren't usually expected to know letters and sounds until around kindergarten age (though it varies depending on where you are). I hope this helps and makes sense! 😊

Hi! Definitely talk to your child’s doctor if you’re concerned. There’s a lot that comes into play with language development, like receptive communication (your son being able to understand what you say to him) and also him being able to communicate with you in other ways (like him bringing you to something that he wants and pointing to it). Sometimes you’ll notice these little language “explosions” where they start saying more words all of a sudden, seemingly out of no where. But like I said, definitely talk to his doctor so that you can get some guidance! ❤️

Hi Marcy! Language development can vary greatly at this time. You can also see a big difference from one month to the next. When children learn how to communicate, they learn what is called "receptive language" first - meaning they can understand what is being said to them. So if you say something like "drink your milk" and your child looks around, reaches for their milk and drinks it - that's an example of receptive language. Expressive language is the ability for your child to use spoken language to express his/herself - or being able to say words. At this age, it's very common for a child to be able to understand much more than they can speak. I have a video on language tips you may find helpful.
