One thing that I do has a teacher to make sure everything gets done is: 1. Grade everything the day it’s assigned (so if I have given 3 graded assignments before art class, then I will grade those 3 things during that planning time that I have) 2. Only limit myself to 4 tasks to take home with me. (Example: I will take home 2 two graded stacks of papers to put in the grade book. Also, I will take home 2 other tasks that I need to get done. Like setting up the binders that you did in this vlog.) 3. When I get to school in the morning I will have a pre-made to-do list from the day before to complete. All these tips just make my teaching life a whole lot easier...

I think it is so cool when teachers decorate their classrooms - it adds a festive air and makes students want to go to school because they will feel more comfortable in a brightly colored enviroment.

Just a tip for putting the binder spine in, you can also turn the binder inside out, like pull the sides around, so the plastic part of the spine is inside, and it’s so easy to slide the spine in. On older binders, where the spine plastic is a little more loose, you can sometimes just put the end of the spine label in and let go and in just falls into place.

It makes me so happy to see you're having a better year than last year. I feel like you talked so much about behavior problems last year, but you have stronger relationships with your students this year. I'm sure that has a lot to do with the age difference, but I'm just glad you're having a better year! As a future educator, I love your videos! I listen to them while I do my homework, and they keep me motivated! :)

Katherine Brennan she’s also teaching at a school with more parental involvement. It’s not easy teaching at a title 1 school. The kids have a lot of issues at home and title 1 schools have more observations and walk through etc. It’s stressful for the staff.

As a fellow teacher who gets migraines- I FEEL YOU! I did a migraine study at Johns Hopkins and learned that the feeling of being out of it and overwhelmed is actually a symptom of my migraines. The study focused on using mindfulness mediation to help prevent stress induced migraines, and when I could remember to do it, it definitely helped. However, the ONE THING I can actually remember to do and it has helped me when teaching, is taking a three breath brakes (where you close your eyes, take three breaths, and check in how you are feeling). This has helped me realize when a migraine was coming on (even pre-aura), when normally I would have ignored it, and I could take my prescription or motrin migraine (which works- but only if you catch it at the very, very beginning).

Love Sunday mornings! So excited when I saw this was 55 minutes! I too get a migraine once a month; I hate how I feel like a zombie afterwards and my brow bone feels so bruised from it that it hurts to move my eyes in any direction. Side note: I stood at my desk this week and looked around my working space and thought how I seriously need you to come and organize my space LOL! So next time you're visiting Megscrayons, come down to Kansas City, Missouri and help me!! Ha! Catherine from 5thgradejewels

I have migraines too. They really are terrible. I had 3 this week! I hate how they can take over your life. I never take off from school, but I feel like I’m in a terrible haze of pain all day when I teach with one. One think that helps me, I use an ice pack and heat at the same time. Ice on the head and hot water on the hands and feet. Dark quiet room...And peppermint oil. I think mine are stress induced. Hope you find some relief!

You should look into getting a daith piercing to help with your migraines. I used to get them at least once a month and after I got the piercing back in June haven’t had one since. If you do end up getting a daith piercing make sure you do both ears or it will only work on the side pierced. Lots of love

DeenaandBeena it’s a really unfortunately correlation. It’s probably a number of things, like stress, long hours, low sleep, bright lights, screens all day, low amounts of quiet time. Things all teachers experience that might exacerbate migraines.

Migraine might be coming from the lights in your room. Amazon has tint covers to put over them. Add more lamps to your room. Tina from "A cozy classroom" talks about this. Also just a theory of mine,.., my husband gets them often and knowing him I think his comes from not drinking enough water, dehydration. Could this be a possibility for you?

Hi Michelle! You are such an inspiration and I get so many great ideas from you! If there's a way for me to return my thanks...I suppose it would be in the way of advice (being the old lady that I am....lol)....asking for and receiving support do not equal failure. You deserve be very proud of your good work but don't ever think it's not enough....open yourself up and be a bit vulnerable and learn from others and you will fly! I remember those early teaching days and always feeling stressed and intimidated by more seasoned colleagues....it kept me from really learning from those who were truly trying to help me to be a better teacher. I'm so glad to see you start to bloom and accept advice without tormenting yourself! (feeling "back in your groove")....good luck on Monday!! You really do make a difference!

Michelle you might want to try reducing the fluorescent lighting in your classroom to help with your migraines. Studies have shown that those office/school lights may cause anxiety and headaches. Look into Google Drive for saving your files. Its unlimited storage free for teachers with google schools. Highly recommend an external drives even with Google Drive because you never know what will happen.

I used to get migraines and they were so bad that they would make me throw up. I would feel better after. Maybe look into eating lots of fruits and veggies, our gut bacteria may be connected with our brain (hence the nauseous feeling and the migrane). I haven't gotten them in a while. But I'm no nutritionists lol.

I went plant based (vegan) in March and have not had one migraine since. I used to get them almost once a week. Changed my life :)

I wish I could back to 4th grade and I have you as a teacher. You put in so much effort and that’s so admirable! I live in Queens in New York City so many things are different here but I wish my teachers in high school would put in half the effort you do!

gabriella lorenzi I’m sorry you’ve had a poor experience with your hs teachers. Your HS teachers also have more standards to teach and deal with 150-200 kids a day. High school needs to be fixed across the country.

txgirl05 I do love all my teachers, I just wish some of them cared more. It is super stressful teaching high school, though, so I completely understand if they don’t put effort into things

gabriella lorenzi that’s really sad :( I’m sorry, just know that there’s a teacher that you’ll encounter that cares a lot about his or her students. I hope your teachers show more care for you and their students.

My mom has migraines almost everyday. I have had migraines since I was 8, I had it for the entire summer going into 3rd grade. My sister is now 11 and she is having headaches a lot and my mom thinks she has what we have but not as bad yet. It will get better.

I had migraines when I was younger. I had H. Pylori. Try reducing gluten. It got rid of my migraines. Mine were like you described all the time. I don’t have the aura, though. Every time I’d get stressed, nervous, anxious, etc. I very rarely get one now and I’m so thankful.

Michelle I feel for you, for your migraines. Something that has helped me extremely is this. Eat a slice of ginger root each day. Not kidding, I know it sounds weird but it works! My migraines were so bad that I was missing work. Bad auroras, couldn't sit up straight, very weak. Felt like I was going to pass out. Now since i started eating ginger root each day, I haven't had those problems. When I get migraines, they are only mild headaches!

RELPAX! I'm not sure what medice you take for your migraines but you can get a 6 or 12 count from your doctor prescribed to you. If you go to relpax.com you can print off a card for $4. Instead of paying over $100 for 6/12 count you will only have to pay $4. It helps me when I get them.

I know how u feel with the migraines. I watched my mom for like 20 years suffer from migraines to the point where she would have to lay down in the dark for a couple hours. Now that I’m in my early 20’s I’m now suffering from migraines on the DAILY!! Some days there just a numb pain and I work threw them..some days I can’t do anything, can’t function, sometimes have to leave work early. They come and go, I can go weeks without one and weeks with one every single day. :(

I can relate to your migraines! I don't get migraines but I have horrible acid reflux (its atypical so it doesn't follow a pattern as to what I eat), and I had it twice this week which is much more than usual. When I get the severe pain in my chest area I can't even move or talk it hurts so bad. Severe pain just really sucks

I have had chronic migraines since middle school, I'm in 11th grade now. Last week I had a constant migraine for the entire week. Advil, Tylenol, and prescription medication did not do anything. I eventually had to start getting shots.

I get migraines too! Drink tons and tons of water. They are usually a sign you are dehydrated! Also, have you tried peppermint essential oils? I put it above my eyes, on my temples, etc.. when I have a migraine! Thinking of my formal obs watching yours and I don't have a date yet! Love the blanket wrap... super cute! Keep smiling and stay positive because you are awesome!

Michelle your migraines have a lot to do with your diet. I had the same problem until I started eating more nutritious foods (green juice). You have a lot caffeine and sugar in your diet which could be triggers. The day after you had your second migraine you were hungry which you mentioned is rare for you, your body was asking for nutrition. Next time don’t have a surgery caffeine drink along with a sugar covered pastry. I’m only taking the time to share this because I know how much migraines suck and I feel for you. Take care.

Saeny Actually, no. You are incorrect. My migraines are not triggered by food. That may be true for someone people but unless you are my personal doctor who I have visited for several years you can’t tell me what causes my migraines. I have been to various doctors for several years and have tried numerous elimination diets. None of these helped my migraines. My migraines are genetic and hormonally triggered.

Pocketful of Primary Oh I’m sorry to hear that, for me it was a factor. I still think adding chlorophyll from green veggies can help lessen the pain but if it’s hormonal and genetic, I understand.

I've been watching your videos for a few weeks now & I love them! Seeing POV from a teacher is so interesting!.... On another note: from one girlfriend to another, girl get your butt to the salon - just once - & have them do your brows for ya, then after that you'll have a guide & be able to shape them yourself... Not picking on you AT ALL, we alllll have had those brow phases! Lol it's one of those things where, if someone has lipstick on their teeth or something on their face, you gotta be that girlfriend & let em know what's up !!! :)

Kayla Riggs She’s mentioned in the past that she’s fairly new to doing her makeup. She used to get comments about her brows all the time & she doesn’t see trying to go out and get them “fixed” as a priority.

Hey! Just an idea if you have easy things to do in the classroom you can have a good student come in and help! In 4th grade my teacher let me come in early and help her AND I LOVED IT! Idk if your school has something for students that get to school early but you could pull a student from there (if They want) and have them come to your classroom!
