Honestly making easy access to co-op a cheat code still sucks If you’re new to the series, you may not even know the cheat is there and assume that the series always did co-op like this Why not just patch it in as a mode on the main menu? It would make things easier

Yeah, definitely. I didn’t even know (or remember) the stage select cheat in the OG Pocky and Rocky until I was making this video. There’ll be many casual folks who’ll have no idea it’s there.

This is the most important thing I needed to hear. Even with the few reviews to see at the time of western release, not a soul mentioned the co-op being restricted to the post-game. The band-aid cheat code is a nice gesture but man... I'm going to get the Japanese Physical at some point since for some odd reason they censored it in the west. The Import also supports English which is something I appreciate greatly as a modern trend.

I'm so glad I checked this out from the library to determine the lack of accessibility isn't for me and my partner. Even *with* the cheat codes, we found the path of "just git gud" to not be all that fun. If there was a co-op Easy mode, then we probably would have truly enjoyed the game and seen it through to the end.

I'm glad you brought this up. I haven't seen anyone else talking about this issue. I bought Reshrined on the Japanese release date, but then I grinded out the 10000 coins on the beginning of stage 1 so I could play it completely fresh in co-op with my dad. I still can't get through Wild Guns on co-op casually. Really wish that was changed

I'd say the tengo project games are amazing, this new pocky and rocky is wayy better than cuphead could ever be, but the co op is definitely an afterthought, not sure why. I guess they assume everyone is like me and plays alone now, but it isn't always the case. So weird

Honestly, it's a bit tiring seeing all these X thing: Re-X'd botch it in some way simply to get the game out quicker or because they just didn't know how to do it properly, these games should be easy wins for the companies, but all they see is an easy cash grab and can't seem to put the respect and time that the game actually needs to be good

I'm definitely glad others are pointing this stuff out with Tengo Project: Love their retro revivals but ever since Omega Five their Co-Op mentality is just bonkers. The Wild Guns thing is easily the worst and makes it tough for newcomers to get a grasp at it, and when I tried to blind play this in co-op with my IRL friend, we only made it to stage 3 before the difficulty turned my friend away. I had a far better time in solo mode and even praised it a lot in my review on the SFG website, but as a co-op experience it seems Natsume Atari just generally wants it to be a tougher mode? Kinda scared of how they'll make the already hard Shadow of the Ninja co-op even harder with that reimagining...

I was worried about what you said about Wild Guns Reloaded thinking I've already bought the game, but then you mentioned it has an easy mode with infinite lives available from the start, so my worries were settled since I usually don't have anyone to play with. All in all, locking an easy or easier difficulty behind beating a game on normal is truly unacceptable, because it ultimately ruins the whole point of having an easy mode in the first place! If you're going to make a difficulty an unlockable, only make it the hardest difficulty. That way. it will encourage the player to play again if they want to challenge themselves even more, thus adding to the game's replay value.

Things i wanted in pocky e Rocky reshrined 1 armor like in pocky e Rocky 2 2 parrys now deal damage to the enemies. 3 meele attacks upgrade. 4 enemies attack variation. 5 charge shots. 6 iten shops like in pocky e rocky 2. 7 optional companions and companions especial attacks. 8 a LITTLE BIT more violent enemies effects , not like sekiro, something more like kimetsu no yaiba would be cool, they are yokai, they should not just PUFF in the air they should at least bleed a bit.

This is one of the few videos and coverage of this game that actually brings up the truly baffling design choices in this title. Like you, I was so stoked for this game, being fan of the series for a pretty long time and even hunting down to the play the original Kiki Kaikai, before the SNES titles. There's a lot to really like here when it comes to the actual game, including the gameplay, sprite work, music etc. (Story is a mess as you mentioned and localisation is also not great). What no review mentions however is just how lacking the game is in its offering for such a high price. No stage select, no 2 player mode (no cheat doesn't count, do it properly Natsume!), no unlockable beyond the 2 characters we know about, no gallery, no other game mode - I believe this game absolutely would have been fantastic for a type of generated room by room challenge game mode with all the enemy types and traps. The thing I do appreciate is the online leader board which is important for a title like this! I wanted to do a run on free mode with the unlockable characters, but upon returning to the game after having to put it down for a bit - it doesn't even save any progress! On top of that, some of the gameplay choices are also odd. I know they're deliberate but for example the limited control scheme beyond button mapping is silly. Why no target/strafe lock? Sometimes you're simply fighting the game's direction and not the challenge. Nothing that can't be overcome and has been a part of the series, but more options the better! Every other recent game in this genre offers this. On top of that the weapon power ups are really odd, with them overriding each other where I just think they could have expanded this with some type of inventory system. Not to mention the red weapon is by far the best once you get to grips with the control... Overall I'm very confused by this title. I like its core but man Natsume (like with their other recent remakes) just can't seem to get it right exactly. Huge shame.

I haven't played Pocky and Rocky myself, but it is something I want to get into cause it oozes charm and being the most out there for a franchise established back in the day, definitely stood out to me than a lot of other Arcadey Shooter games from the era and I love it.

The only issue potentially is because of online multiplayer being locked behind paywalls for PS5 and Nintendo Switch (ew Subscription Services instead of being free regardless of being F2P or not.)

Sounds to me like Natsume gone all kooky after they lost the development team who we're originally making their Harvest Moon series when they split to go make Story of Seasons.

Yes, I edited that What Happened on Harvest Moon, I know. But several of the original developers of Pocky and rocky (and Wild guns) are still at Natsume, and were responsible for a number of these decisions.

Pocky and Rollin Rocky 👌 Also what an arbitrary decision to purposefully make multiplayer an 'unlock' I guess they were trying to give the player more incentive to play through the game multiple times, but that should've really just been for the additional characters. Sounds like the passcode at least checks off the flag that locks off the feature, but why not put in the effort to remove the flag altogether and have multiplayer there right from the get-go 🤷‍♂ Ninja Saviors is pretty good from what I've played! Unlimited continues, but you can't save your progress and come back at a later point, so you gotta play the whole game in one sitting (hens why I haven't beaten it yet). Great video dude!

I got this game in physical form just because of how much I liked the first SNES one, I also was surprised by them locking the 2 player mode until the aftergame (I was planning to play this with my brother, we still did but alternating the game SMB 1 style) another thing that I don´t see anywhere else is that the translation its really bad, like NES-SNES era bad (Maybe is this because I got the physical release) still if you are planning to play this single player I think its a great game, but this could easily use some patching as all its problems are structure wise, the core elements (gameplay, graphics, and music) are still great.

Ten minute video just to whine about the fact that the co-op mode is an unlockable? :\ Reshrined is one of the most entertaining new action games to come out in years, and the fact that you're expected to play it more than once is what supposedly ruins the entire thing? It's not even gated behind any kind of skill, you can creditfeed all the way to the end once, and it'll still unlock. :) I mean I can see it's *an annoyance* if you're one of the few people who actually have both the opportunity and motivation to immediately play it co-op as *the very first thing* after buying it, before even trying it out yourself, and you're right to be disappointed about that if you knew it was there but didn't know about the code for it. But you're acting like it somehow affects the entire game, which is ridiculous. Even if it didn't have a co-op mode at all, Reshrined would still be a fantastic game! As for the multiplayer in Wild Guns Reloaded, all I can say is I've played it much more than the singleplayer mode. I've brought it to numerous meetups and every single time it's been a blast with people coming back and dropping in and out as we'd try it over and over and over just to see how far we could get in the game, it just never failed to grab everyone around it, including spectators. To say its multiplayer mode is flawed isn't just a misunderstanding, it's a gross misrepresentation. :D
