Yeah, game was totally in Nintendo Power. It was the only place I've actually seen the game until watching a video online like several years ago. Looks like it's April of 1993 issue (Star Fox on the cover, issue 47, page 26).

My nerdy ass loves the Japanese mythology the game is drenched in. There's just so many youkai, gods, important figures, and stories that the game features, even if only for a moment sometimes. Care like that hasn't been used often, like... God of War recently did well with bringing the mythos to life, but many times it's just the names or maybe one single story, isolated from the greater mythos.

I suspect one of the reason it wasn't talked about much when it came here would be the cutesy nature of the characters, that and how much culture is presented in the game. There was that weird period in time when people were either afraid of foreign culture, or the people in charge of bringing stuff over here thought we were.

I find it staggering how not just the AVGN but James and Mike themselves have yet to cover so many SNES,GENESIS, NES titles let alone dare touch the likes of PS1,N64, and the later generations. They've been doing this for quite a while and there are just so many more games that I'd love their take on: Mystical Ninja, Gargoyle's Quest, Ristar, Illusion of Gaia, The Magical Quest, and so on. They've far from exhausted the library of games. Keep it up guys! Some of the most wholesome gaming content on the internet!

This game was DEFINITELY covered in Nintendo Power during its release, and I know for sure, bc it was the only reason that I knew about this game. It got raving reviews, and I thought the screenshots and artwork were great, so I imagined that the game must be awesome. IDK how many issues of Nin Power covered it, but at least one issue.

travis.is.win 4-5 episodes. James gets about 6 hours to record so I have to divide the time so that we can fit enough videos for the month. I try to stream the games ahead if time if I can so that I have some idea what we are doing. I dont always get to though. Like the Mask, that one we just popped in. At least these days I get to play a bit first on stream so we dont get as badly stuck. Like we used to with videos like Comix Zone and Dennis the Menace..

Fester's quest is an amazing game. It's one of those you can play through when just wanna play something. Fairly easy to beat too. As long as you make it past the fourth boss (always called him the owl) with the machine gun you're almost done. Awesome music too.

Isn't there a slide move you can use to dodge the water beam? And I think after one player dies they can use a credit to re-join, down there you can see it says "you can try too"

Not a credit. You steal the other player's lives. Notice when Mike has a life left there's the message you mention, but when he hits his last it changes to the game's logo.

It could be so fun if James did a Nerd episode where he somehow visits himself from another timeline where he is the Happy Video Game Nerd, a timeline where he only grew up playing great games like this, and the Angry Nerd then decides that he wants to stay, but Happy Nerd convinces him that his own timeline NEEDS him to review all the bad games, that in order for there to be balance in the universe they must remain in their own native timelines, doing what they both do best, and Angry Nerd then reluctantly agrees to go back, realizing how important his role in the universe is.
