Not to mention the joystick, John Randell, Lott, Rice, Chad Johnson, TO, tony G, and others. Also could you imagine if Steve largent had gloves? Dude rarely dropped with bare hands he'd be cheesing with gloves. Also Warren Moon made it so it wasn't a white man position he made it so it was ok these guys can bomb it fifty plus down field not just RBs and WRs and it was guys like Wilson that made it ok we can have a TE block, but also go 20 yards down field. A lot of this was coaches seeing hey this guy can play at this position well.

My senior year was Vick's redshirt year. I lived next door to 3 football players and used to hear about this freshman who was absolutely destroying our first team defense in practice and scrimmages. We were a top 5 in the country defense at the time. People forget just how good of a passer he was in college, he had some accuracy issues in the NFL but not while at Tech.

Great story thanks for sharing.

My senior year was also his freshman year, and I can remember asking one of the football players if this new QB was any good. I wonder what the coaches thought when they saw how good he was before he actually started playing. I had to renounce my Vick fandom though, once I heard about all the horrible things he did to those helpless dogs. Greatest talent ever to play the game of football, he is lucky no one actually saw the crimes he commited to those poor animals though.

Always drive me crazy hearing people say “he’s just a runner.” He could effortlessly sling the ball and had two really good receivers. I also used to think if I was coaching defense, and Vick ran the option, ignore the runner and go after Vick. The running back might get 20 yards but Vick will most likely score lol. You’re absolutely right though, he was a great passer in college. Most exciting college player I’ve ever watched in my 52 years. I’d have to put Johnny Football second.

You know what?? When someone apologizes, you can genuinely recognize if they mean it or not. Michael Vick, Ray Lewis, Ray Rice, and Michael Phelps are GREAT examples of this! These are guys who made careless mistakes, but so what?? They realized that they had to become better men for themselves, their families, and they also realized that (whether they like it or not) they're role models! If you ask me, it's one thing to say "I made a mistake" and then turn around and make the same dumb mistakes over and over and over again, but it's another thing to say it, actually grow up and learn from it, and not let it happen again. These gentlemen are awesome examples of turning tragedy into triumph. Keep up the great work, Mr. Vick!!

King James Actually, Ernie Davis RB was the first African American to be drafted #1 overall to the NFL in ‘62 (to the Redskins whom they traded to the Browns) from Syracuse (incidentally, he was also the 1st AA to be awarded the Heisman trophy). Tragically, Davis never played a down in the NFL as he was diagnosed & died of leukemia in ‘63. In fact, Vick wasn’t even the 1st AA Hokie to be drafted #1 overall. That was Bruce Smith DE in ‘85 (to the Bills).
