Fantastic hunt. Way to stay with the deer and take him down. This is what I like to see. Sheer determination and commitment to the job at hand. Week minded fools and soft men would only look at such an effort as being bad. Congratulations on a fine hunt, and enjoy that table fair. Godspeed Danny

Yeah, I was impressed too. There you go running through the mountain laurel after a deer. I couldn't do that any more, not at my age. And the guns went off every time, despite the snow on the barrels. All to bring in a deer that really needed to be brought in.

Holy Blair Witch hunt Batman. Great job with the rifle, couldn't believe it fired every time, or not ? You should get a Cows Knee, goes over your pan & flint, snap's rt off when ready to go. Was one of the more enjoyable hunts I watched.

@hemlock. Yes galeton is a great little town. I miss it still . Growing up in Akron Ohio made me appreciate galeton that much more. Our camp was a mile west of town on the north side of rt6. I always hunted on the corner of state game lands 64. Just above the ox yoke inn.

There are times when you can out run a wounded deer. A gut shot deer's stamina will be severely limited after an hour or two.

Curious why you pushed and kept pushing the deer? Likely would have went less then 50 yards if you weren't chasing it and running after it. Ya'll keep saying the 🦌 is getting tired. I reckon the deer isn't all thats getting tired. Pathetic really..
@hemlockboystracking
@hemlockboystracking Жыл бұрын
From the time he was hit first to the final kill shot was about 5 hours..we let him bed down multiple times..toward the end running after him I knew I’d be able to get a shot because the mountain laurel opened up at the head of the hollow so I went after him, and it worked out perfect in my favor

@@hemlockboystracking i've been flintlock hunting thirty years. twenty-five of these have been spent in the poconos. i suspect the commentor believed backing out in this situation and returning later would have been a safer play to recover the deer, given the temperature- judging from the bed at the beginning of the video (w/o info on the deer's reaction after the shot, the shot taken and its poi, etc). i doubt i'm stating anything you don't already know (i'm writing this for those who might not)- and as you mentioned, you knew the lay of the land and made the call. another factor, two hunters were present...this matters when tracking. nobody watching can speak to the conditions they were dealing with. there may have been six inches of snow forecast. the deer could re-bed during the storm. they may have had work or family obligations the next morning. i've dealt with each scenario. some successful, some not. this was a successful hunt. congratulations. for those unfamiliar with this region, coyote numbers are high. bear numbers are high. i've cut bear tracks in these conditions. backing out overnight doesn't guarantee a successful recovery. thanks for posting.
@hemlockboystracking
@hemlockboystracking Жыл бұрын
@@salsziv3198 good information there..it’s easy for a lot of people to plan out a scenario of what they would do in a situation like that but without being there you can’t really judge what would’ve been right or wrong..for example I’m an active duty Marine and the following day was my last day of leave and I had to drive all day to get back to work..thanks for sharing! A lot of people keep thinking poconos but the poco actually is for Potter County..would love to hunt the poconos sometime though and I’m sure I will!
