Rough video take from session at the secluded beach of San Juan on the Caribbean Island of Curacao, where Paul visited me in 1997.
Paul Cotton Poco of POCO is undoubtly one of the best and tasteful guitar players in the world and has written some of Poco's best classic songs, like Bad Weather, Ride the Country, Barbados. I have been a Poco fan since 1971, and had first met Paul in 1976 when Poco did a television show in the Netherlands. We became very good friends when I visited a few shows of Poco in 1997, in Columbus Ohio at the State Fair. A few months later I had the pleasure of Paul visiting me on the Caribbean isIand of Curacao, where I've been living since 1995. Paul wrote "Don't Stop The Carnival" about that visit, a great song that was released on Paul's solo album 'Firebird'. When Paul visited me he brought with him his acoustic Takamine and some very fresh new songs for his "When The Coast Is Clear' project. The album would be released in 2003 after some amazing recording sessions in Nashville with Jack Sundrud as producer and me, myself and I as the Executive Producer. When Paul was in Curacao we had a lot of fun and as a big fan I wanted him to play his old and new songs 24 hours a day. I recorded almost everything and finally, after 21 years, I took the time to have a look at these audio and video recordings. I have the pleasure and thumbs up from Paul himself to share these precious recordings with his fans around the world.
Here is a video of Paul at a secluded beach, playing, on a warm and windy and sunny day, one of his new songs: "It never goes away". You can hear the sea and the wind and the birds in the back- and foreground. You can see me have a sombrero as a shield for the wind to make recordings on my Minidisk. Those recordings are available as Paul Cotton - "The Sunsett Kid".
Enjoy! Peter van Leeuwen, Curacao, 18 May 2018
