What advantage will moving up to a 26 mm carb give me? Also, with the two-stage filter like that, if I oil the outer layer like I used to on my 2-stroke motocross bikes, will it repel water when it rains or am I still going to have problems when it rains? With the high-flow performance exhaust along with the setup you just showed right there, what main jet would you recommend me starting with? And one more question. I have the high-flow exhaust on right now and it's one of those $35 eBay shorty high-flow exhaust. I'm having a big problem with on deceleration when I cut the throttle. It's literally shooting flames out that you can see at night and sounds like gunshots and I'm not trying to attract that kind of attention if you know what I mean. Sorry about all the questions but you seem really knowledgeable and I love your videos. I'm slowly putting this thing back together after it was stolen and apparently crashed multiple times and ditched at the hospital. Just finished the starter clutch.

Okay Mike, I never ride in the rain. I am a forecast checker, and it there is a hint of rain, no bikes. Open pod filter, oil or not is going to have a hard time with water. I would only go to a bigger carb. if you are planning to upgrade the engine. It all works in conjunction to get more speed. Bigger displacement, carb. and exhaust should be changed together. Now if you go to a PWK carb. you might get a little extra. Your current carb. needs to be re jetted to match to the high flow exhaust. Normally that flame is extra gas caught in the exhaust. Please feel free to ask me a question anytime.

Aside from possible oil leak with the breather tube, is it necessary to put a filter on it? I have it just routed downward open end. I have a slip on exhaust and the metal mesh cone style filter on my 150 and a 24ID / 32OD carb. No matter what pilot jet, main jet and needle position, I cant get it running right. It starts fine, runs fine is low to mid throttle. But, from about half throttle and up, it just bogs and cant go any faster. On average, I would get about 55MPH - 60MPH on a flat straightaway. But, after the filter and the exhaust, Its barely pushing 39MPH. I cant tell you if it sounds rich or lean, because the symptoms of rich and lean are about the same. And spark plug readings are inaccurate when settings have been changed around too much. I will say that it runs better with no filter at all, however, the top speed is still only about 40MPH if I do that. I wish I knew how restrictive / open the metal mesh filters are compared to the stock airboxes so that maybe I could have a better idea for fine tuning. But, I've seen stories where someone with a 150 24ID carb, pod filter and free flow exhaust would use anywhere from a 108 main to 130 main and works fine. I know it varies, but, still. That's a big difference for same specs.

@XSevenSonata4 жыл бұрын
Thank you, I will try that later. I replaced all of the tubing today and they're nice and tight. I've tried several metal mesh filters. Each the same size and style, but, different make. I made sure the rubber boots weren't covering up the little ports of the intake. So, shouldn't be any leaks their. I put the airbox back on today just to check how that's working out, and, seems to be okay. However, I didn't give it much of the "suspecting" throttle positions due to not having the time to ride on a straightaway with a good speed limit, so, I will check that later. I did take the intake manifold off to replace the cylinder head recently, and, was pondering if the intake manifold was sealed good enough when I put it back on. The plastic gasket looked fine, Its fairly new. But, I was wondering of the manifold was in good contact with it. If there is a leak, it seems it would be their. I will check it out later.
@XSevenSonata4 жыл бұрын
I was able to get a better ride out. So, I tested again with the stock airbox just for curiosity. It hit 50MPH at about 7k RPMs pretty quick in a short time / distance. It peaked about 53MPH, however, I didn't fine tune it or really try much past that. It was just a quick test. I also sprayed starting fluid in several areas, being careful to not miss anything. I didn't notice any idle change. I think my problem is just getting the carb tuned up with the filter, or, the type of filter. I haven't tried a Uni or K&N. I have better results adjusting the carb for the filter, but, most results are either worse or no change at all. Usually I would learn from the mistakes to correct it, but, I still cant determine if Its running rich or lean with the very little symptoms I get from the filter.
@kachiskid4 жыл бұрын
Some bikes like the under seat air filter and don't work well without them. It seems like you are almost there minus not being able to read the spark plug. I would try a UNI filter just in case because it seem to be the middle of have the mesh screen and under seat air filter. Is the bike new? Where are you located, in the mountains? What is your altitude and weather like in your area? Have you tried any other carb? Is this one the stock carb?
@XSevenSonata4 жыл бұрын
I purchased it new in September last year.bit has about 1800 (I think kilometers because the outer ring on the speedometer is kilometers) straight away I put in a different cdi, spark plug, ignition coil and lithium ion battery. I've put bigger tires on it recently and the muffler head. I haven't done any transmission changes, yet. Although I would like a little more top end, I don't want to sacrifice up hill climbs or take off speeds, either. Also, I don't know how much longer it would take roller weights to push the top gear. Altitude is really flat at sea level except for a couple occasional bridges. It's the same size carb as stock, but, I did swap the stock because the screws were tamper proof and I didn't feel like getting them out. I have since done that, though. I can understand the spark plug readings more when Its significantly different, like highly burnt on fouled. But, when Its only slightly, Its not easy enough for me to see a difference. And I could never understand the other differences between rich or lean symptoms. The mesh filter is directly to the carb, by the way. No mid pipe or angle. So, Its parallel and not to the side. I thought maybe that would effect air flow a bit. Weather is usually clear. This is getting the summer time where rain is expected, but, not frequent. Usually I dodge rain okay. I considered carrying a rain cover for it if needed. I admit I don't have a garage and I worry about dirt sometimes.

Thank you Dalton. I am currently using a 26mm CVK carb. and will soon be starting a tuning series on attempting to install the jets for the best performance. Normally you have to upjet 1 size up whenever adding a big bore kit, high flow exhaust or a air pod filter. Hopefully by the end of this riding season I will be going to a PWK carb (or flat slide carb.). That upgrade should help with immediate throttle control instead of the gradually increases that the CVK carb. make. If you really want more power, think about getting a 171cc big bore kit, most increase is going to be seen there, and it is worth it!

He took the carb off in the attempt to clean it, thinking it’s clogged or something, but the screws to take off the bowl of the carb were sheered off like that carbs a throwaway carb or something. Cause we can’t open it up to clean. It’s the stock carb. Any suggestions?
@kachiskid4 жыл бұрын
Sorry about that bro. The 1st thing I recommend when buying a new scooter is a new carb. because they are all sealed. Where is the carb. leaking from?
@apkt-mac65994 жыл бұрын
It’s leaking from the hose coming from the bottom bowl of the carb, When he tries to start it up. He said when he was riding it he started smelling gas and it was running so he turnt it off. Now it won’t start back up but will start leaking from that hose. I figured that carb was dirty so I was gonna have him take it apart and clean it, but like you said it was sealed. I think he might just need a new carb since it can’t be properly cleaned out.

Dealing with these carbs. can be hit or miss. You would normally go to a pod filter if you upgrade your engine, and exhaust together. The climate, and attitude of where you live is very important also. For running around making deliveries, you want that sucker to be reliable more than fast.

Hey man, I currently have a stock air box filter but keen to hook up a uni filter instead. My current air box has a hose to the exhaust pipe. How do I get around this? Any help is much appreciated
@kachiskid4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, a lot of scoots have that side air filter crap. Remove that whole box and the hose that runs to the carb. You will have to get creative on how to hook the UNI to the carb. Some people shorten that hose, use another radiator hose and angle it where they want, or hook directly on the carb. You might have to buy an after market pipe like mine. All depends on how much room you have.
