I've noticed several questions about trigger coil output. Hot tip: a regular dvom will provide inaccurate readings. You must use a peak adapter. The signal is must too fast for a multimeter alone to capture. Hope this helps.

Your vid helped me a lot with my Buddy 125. It turned out to b a failing pulse coil. The little one that times the spark. It has been going bad for quite awhile. The scooter would start and run perfect. But when it was pretty hot after a long up hill run it would cut out just a little. Then it would b fine for a few days. I even would go on 50 mile trips. Then it started dying more often. It would often seem to ohm out ok. Finally, it would stall and barely run. It the ohmed as open circuit. I replaced the complete stator and it is fixed. It was an intermittent problem that finally got to the point where it quit. Total pain. But very happy it is fixed. Thank u for that great diagram and video!!

Maybe a stupid question. But is there a difference between negative ac and dc ? The green wire from stator (ground) is connected to the frame/engine/chassis, but also connected there is the dc negative from battery. So its ok to have both AC and DC ground on the same place ( engine/frame chassis etc).

I just read a wiring diagram before that said you can have an ac or a dc stator depending on the manufacturer. If your wiring hasn't been played with before then maybe you have d.c?

I have a basic question. On my 90cc Kymco, the plug will spark whether it is grounded to engine or not. I am used to having to ground the plug to the engine/frame for it to spark. I assume because the coil has 2 wires to include a ground, this is normal. I just noticed when I was working on a spark issue that it would through a spark with the plug and plug wire laying on top of the front tire, and that was a new one for me.

@Ryan_19977 ай бұрын
Depends what type stator you have Ac or dc If you look at the coils on the stator, if it’s bare coils all around, I believe its DC IF there’s some coils that look like they’re wrapped in white tape, its AC. I believe it was ac that charges your battery and dc powers up cdi

Some pick up have 2 wires, the blue/white and a green/white. What is that green/white wire for, it leads to the cdi next to the ground but it is not grounded to the chassis or to the battery neg cable, as it enters the cdi it exits the ground solid green wire via a resistence of about 1.6-ohms. So if you ever wanted to join these two wires as a single ground you will be doing so without the resistence of 1.6-ohms causing your pick up to fail. Any ideas?😮.... And the reason why you may want to join these two wires is so that you can use a DC cdi in place of an AC cdi in the case that your exciter windings burn out while on the road, instead of having to change your stator you can just use a DC cdi until you get home.???

Spark seems fine, I replace the coil/spark plug and wire. I've had problems with the air filter system clogging easily. Now it simply will not start and seems to not be getting fuel, or the mixture is bad, not sure what to do next. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Ken
@kylecrowder69402 жыл бұрын
Hi Ken, yes it definitely sounds like you are having an air-fuel mixture problem. I would start by inspecting the carburetor to see if any gas or perhaps too much gas is getting to the intake. If not I would remove the carb and thoroughly clean the inside (bowl, jets, etc). A replacement carb is cheap enough as well. If the engine was running before this probably isn’t the problem but you could possibly have a compression issue.

I have a 150cc gy6 engine that runs great after it warms up, but it takes a few minutes to get warmed up. It seems that the electric choke is not working. How can I tell if the choke is not working or if it is not getting electric to it? The electric choke has about 8.5 ohms resistance. The electric wires going to it come from the voltage regulator. How do I check to see if the proper voltage is coming from the voltage regulator? I thought about taking your advice and buying a new carb w/the elec choke on it. But, then would I have to buy something else?

Kyle, I have a 2021 EZGO Valor with a 150cc (KYEFI) Kymco GY6 EFI engine. It will not run, and this is a common problem (with no fix) among other EZGO GY6 owners. Issues: Lights will not come on, and engine will not start. The horn and backup alarm will work, but they're hardwired straight to the battery that's perfect (verified by shop) with 12.6 volts. I changed the ignition and that fixed it, but as soon as I parked it, it wouldn't run anymore. I changed the ignition again and that fixed it again; however, one day later and it stopped running yet again. I bought another ignition, but that didn't do anything. I bought a fourth ignition and nothing. I can run a wire across two of the four ignition terminals and the lights come on, but it will not run. Do you have any suggestions? Any help is appreciated. If you want to use my cart to repair and make a video, let me know (I will still pay you too.) There's a lot of people who need help. In the case of a 50cc two stroke scooter with AC stator, if the CDI is faulty the power wire from stator, usually the Black wire with red tracer, will not generate a power feed to the CDI giving the impression the stator is bad. A good working CDI excites the stator to generate around 48 volts AC a faulty CDI will not. I'm pretty sure the four-stroke non GY6 Chinese CDI's are the same such as found in the 100cc Quad bikes etc

Hey Kyle, I've come across a scooter (150 Purfetti alto) that idles rough and bogs/stalls when accelerator is advanced while on center stand. There is a new carburator, coil, spark plug and cdi module on it. If you take the the air filter off and slightly cover the intake tube with your hand the engine performs much better which indicates a poor fuel air mixture ratio but I don't see any way to adjust it. Any ideas? Compression is 125 psi and leak-down test indicates 9% loss which are both good readings.

Definitely sounds like an air-fuel mixture problem. I would go through the carburetor and check the jets. You may be able to find more details on the carburetor from google specifically on where the mixture screw is. Also check for tears or leaks in the intake boot, sounds like it is getting too much air.

We are trying to troubleshoot an electrical problem with our Baja BR-150 Go-Kart, with little success so far. It died while running it, and now when you hit the key to kick it over you can hear the solenoid click but no engine turnover occurs. We've replaced the rectifier, CDI, solenoid, starter motor, coil, sparkplug, but that didn't solve the problem. Voltage from the CDI power- in terminal to ground is ~12 V, but during attempts to crank engine the voltage from the CDI power-out terminal to ground and the starting motor-to-ground are only ~5 v each. We're thinking it may be an ignition switch problem and have ordered one but it has not yet arrived. May be a stator issue, but that requires getting into the engine flywheel area, and we're hesitant to do that. Any ideas?
@dwilliams27943 жыл бұрын
Hey. He briefly mentioned in the video but you could also be having a faulty kill switch issue. Those things can leaving you chasing rabbits all over that motor. Since you have changed everything else it seems, changing your ignition switch also doesn't hurt at this point. I maintain a lot of go-karts including some fairly older models and I don't usually see stator problems. Hope that helps.

i have a vector 150R replaced coil,cdo and stator ,still no spark . i followed the readings onnthe video and still no spark . im stumped.

I would recommend finding the electrical diagram online and trace the voltage with a volt meter or even a test light if you have one. This way you can find at which component you are losing voltage.

Does anybody have any idea why one would run smooth at cold start but with in two minutes start running very rough? Could that be a coil going bad? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

My gy6 150cc go-kart won't even try to turn over when I turn the key. I have tried many different things including using a screwdriver to bypass everything and go straight to the starter and then it tried to start (unsuccessfully). I am very sure the problem is electrical but I can't figure it out. Any reason it won't try to turn over when I turn the key?
@kylecrowder69403 жыл бұрын
Hello Carter, it could be one of a few things. Most likely is the solenoid has gone bad and will need to be replaced. But it is worth checking the wiring between the key and the solenoid for breaks and also check for any safety switches your kart may have. There could be a broken switch to ensure the brake pedal is pressed to be able to start the engine. In my past experience this problem usually comes from the solenoid though. Thanks!

@@kylecrowder6940 Thank you for responding, when I got the go-kart (2 months ago) I quickly realized that the wiring was old and corroded, so I bought a new wiring harness with everything in it including a new solenoid. I doubt that it is bad because it isn't very old. I did leave the original stater on the engine thought because it had the correct connections and I may have been a little lazy at the time. I doubt the old stator stops it from at least trying to start though. I know that the key is connected though because when I turn it the brake lights (not installed) get power. Therefore the key is connected to the harness, any other ideas? Again thank you SO much.

@@cartermoore3301 No problem, best advice I can give is to take a test light and start at the starter and work your way back to the key. When you turn the key to start it make sure your getting power at the starter and if you are, then work your way back to the solenoid etc.
@cartermoore33013 жыл бұрын
@@kylecrowder6940 I have already done that with multi-meter ao it's basically the same thing. The pole (idk what they are called the things that stick out of the solenoid and one goes to the starter and one to the battery) the pole that goes to the battery gets a strong 12v when I turn the key, the pole that goes right to the starter gets 0v. Now that I type this out it sounds more and more like the solenoid is bad. I was hesitant to assume it was bad because it is new(ish). They are only like $5 I guess I will buy one. Again thank you so much for responding.

The first part was helpful, thank you. However, I found it rather frustrating that you just assume everyone has money to purchase a new carb. Might only be 25$ to you, but not everybody lives in a first world country.

@@fullycrankedUnfortunately (for you), this comment just makes you seem ignorant. What might be 25 "bucks" to you, is not for me. In terms of literal figures, value for money and salary earned. It's not a matter of not having the money, it's a matter of having to use it for other expenses. Try to be more like the comment beneath yours. Unapologetically brutal and to the point, that shit made me laugh... But then I went to my room and cried.
