Thank you so much for this video and all the patches! I recently got a POD HD500X and a DT50 212. I am a bit overwhelmed by the system and was not too thrilled by the stock sounds. I really like a lot of the patches you created. Your video also helped me understand the system a little better. Keep up the awesome work!

Dude, thanks a ton for these incredible patches and in depth analysis of each one. These are without a doubt the best I've ever come across. If Line6 had it together, they'd make an offer to you to have these as standard presets. You're very kind in saying you weren't too happy with the factory offerings. I would have never purchased the 500 if I had only heard the stock patches - mostly garbage. I'd like to point out that your Clean twin patch sounds superb with acoustic guitars also. Rock on!

PDXguitarfreak Thank you!!! Finally someone did a video of tones built with the HD500 that sound like something you would actually use. I watched tons of vids on this rig and NOTHING had tones that sounded "real." Line 6 should pay you a sales commission because you just sold a HD500X for them! Keep up the great work!

I finally got the seller of my used HD500X to "gift" the optional complete model packs he had purchased with his unit so I can hook up to Line 6 Edit without fear of having them labeled "unauthorized". I am grateful for your videos because you explain why your settings are done like they are. I find that adjusting for amp tone is as involved as actually learning to play. By the way, I enjoy your playing and teaching videos, your voice is good for teaching.

Hi Dave, Just downloaded all your patches to my HD500. Absolutely superb tones mate. Had to turn the treble down and bass up on all of them because they sounded way to thin through my gear but once I had done that WHOAAA !!! I was using a Wampler Pinnacle for VH stuff and it is excellent but you have bettered it by getting that brown sound and being able to switch the phase, boost in/out. Nice cleans as well. Great work, thank you.

Got the new pod 500x last week. After listening to the presets I thought this was à big mistake. Than I read à lot of stories on the internet on this rig and loaded Tons of custom tones. But it was not untill I found your video and patches that the pod came alive! Better than any sound before (have used pods since the beginning). Carry on your great work, maybe à Gilmour patch?

Thank you for this video. Your descriptions are very clear and concise and that is appreciated by this so-so guitar player. I am mainly the rhythm guitar and keyboard player for my band but do a solo and fills now and then. We do a good variety of 80's thru today but a lot of older stuff. I haven't found a great spot to find specific patches such as the Watson/Gillis sounds on Don't Tell Me.. or Lukather, Schon, etc. I'll check the rest of ur videos but any suggestions on good patch sites?

Thank you! Open POD HD500 Edit software and then open file you want to edit. Click on mid-screen tab that says CONTROLLERS. Click on MODEL drop-down menu and choose the 1st Treadplate, and then from PARAMETER drop-down menu choose CH VOL. Put theMINIMUM knob on 44%, and then set the MAXIMUM knob to something higher (perhaps 54%). Go back to the MODEL drop-down menu and choose the 2nd Treadplate. Then go to PARAMETER and choose CH VOL again. MINIMUM is at 50% and then choose a level for MAXIMUM.

Indeed, Those are two tones that are very hard to nail. I have tried a lot of the custom tones in my old POD x3 but none could really match the original. That said I have not been able to create them myself either. I will check your last video more thorough to get a good idea of what you are doing with the rig.Keep me posted.

Thanks bro, you are kind... and I agree about holding back a little on the gain for a good 80s hard rock tone. That was definitely my intent here. I'd rather have a rhythm tone that is sensitive to how hard you hit the strings rather than over-saturation. Rock on!

Hey thanks man - I have gotten almost all of my tones from the CustomTone website that Line6 runs. As you have probably experienced, the challenge is weeding through tons of boring patches to find good ones. The only other site I can recommend is Glen DaLaune's website - he has some really nice patches (the best I have heard)

Sorry- re-reading my comment it seemed a bit critical! Your patches and playing are great! Stoner plexi and Daves main tone 3 are two of the best patches i've found on youtube (including GD patches I paid for...). Thanks so much for taking the time to create and share your knowledge and settings with the HD 500. I was struggling to come up with the tones I was looking for which basically include a great clean and a great rhythm/ lead tone.I based most of my patches off the Variac Marshall from the X3 Live and almost gave up on my HD-500 til I stumbled acroos your patches. I loved the variac!!! You have hit a home run brutha! Do you leave the speaker simulation on when playing thru your half stack?

LOL thanks man. As much as I love the HD500, I found the rock/metal patches that it came with to be weak. Maybe next time, Line6 will hire an experienced rock guitar player to help. Kudos to them for creating the CustomTone page though - that's where I learned a lot by looking at other people's patches.

Hi Matt, yes, you can. I ALWAYS create my patches on the computer, because it's 1000x easier than trying to create things by working with the tiny little interface on the actual POD unit. While you have the computer connection via USB in place, and once you have created the patch, click on the Save button on the POD unit and it will then let you pick where you want to assign the patch on the actual unit.
@PDXguitarfreak
@PDXguitarfreak 11 жыл бұрын
Hi Bryan, glad you dug them! :) When you say "do you leave the speaker simulator on" what are you referring to? Something within the POD, or the JSX's speaker cab which has the direct out (which operates as a speaker simulating line out)?
@PDXguitarfreak
@PDXguitarfreak 11 жыл бұрын
Thank you! For recording purposes, I go straight into the computer from the POD. However, I use an amp as a monitor at the same time for listening which recording. You can't hear the amp here though, or when I do my KZbin videos... the sound is entirely just the POD into my computer.
