Are you sure you're a doctor? Explosive diarrhea is nothing compared to the pain of gout.

This does not sound right to me, I just experienced a gout attack for the first time. The experience was so painful I could not touch the skin of my big toe. My doctor prescribed Colchicine and the pain and swelling went away quickly. I have had NO diarrhea of any kind....I don't understand where this guy/Dr is getting his info from. This drug has been a savior for me.

I’ve taken it 2 times in 16 years and both times I had explosive diarrhea and felt like I was going to die. Indomethocin made my heart race and beat so hard you could see it through my shirt.

Indomethacin was not the best for my gout attacks. It give me horrid acid reflux and made me foggy headed and tired. Its burned in my stomach. Had to take for days before it might knock the gout down. After 30 years of gout suffering, i was prescribed Colchicine. I take the diarriah over gout pain any day. Its worked well for me. It was a life saver.

This is episode is meant solely to educate ER professionals on the potential side effects of colchicine that are necessary to acknowledge when considering what type of treatment regimen to start a patient on. We don't mean to discount any individual's personal success with colchicine, more to ensure that informed decisions are made when medications are ordered.

I've got gouty arthritis. Colchicine did nothing for me. Diarrhoea, yes. Gave me that alright. Allopurinol? Works wonders for some. Not for me. Only thing that gets me anywhere is water. But I'm talking lots of it. Drink it till it makes you cold, your fingers go white and your urine is clear. Then have a break. Do the same thing in the evening. And lose weight! Eat to live. Don't live to eat. People of a certain age had a good run. But it's over. Take my advice or continue to suffer, just as I did, for too long because I didn't like the solution.
@Havik7142 жыл бұрын
Allopurinol cause more flare up and makes me more sick. Colchicine is way better and losing weight will make it worst until you get to your ideal weight. I get more flare ups now. Not eating enough calories or eating to clean also causes gout attacks. I take a colchicine tablet every 4 day or once a week. While I lose all the weight. Went from 365 pounds to 240 pounds in a year.

As a chronic gout sufferer and a medical professional I’d suggest the mention of Ketorolac (Toradol). Especially in the ER. It’s the only thing that gives me relief. IM gives relief within a few minutes. PO within 20 minutes.

I have the occasional gout flare up in the knee. And quite honestly this doctor has not experienced severe gout pain. Ill take the minor bouts of diarrhea when without colchicine id prefer the whole limb be amputated. It is by far the worst pain ive ever experienced. And ive broken an ankle, had said ankle operated on and is now mostly titanium. Broke 8 fingers at the same time and my collarbone has had to be manually reset more than once. Gout flares are worse than all of the above. Dont shit on a medication that you dont fully understand the benefits of.

By the way, 50 mg Prednisone and .6mg colchicine is the wondercure for a flare.

@@hdshadow7465I took 5 tablets of 0.6 colcichine in less than 12 hours. No diarrhea. Less pain than when it first flared up. Do y’all think this is a lot and can you die from taking too much Colcichine. This doctor said you can die from 0.8 mg of Colchicine but that means I would’ve died a bunch of times 😂

wow so much bad information here. i have the worst case of gout my rheumatologist has ever seen... multiple joints flare and remain that way for up to several months. when he put me on colchicine it was a game changer. considering the pain from gout can drive one to suicide, diarrhea is an acceptable side effect and it only happens at high doses. the key to colchicine use is recognizing that takes a long time for it to be eliminated from the body, something like 10 days. the trick is finding a dose that works for you. for me i take 1 mg every 3 days as a prophylaxes, this prevents side effects. during a flare i take 1 mg per day in combination with ibuprofen. it never gets too serious or lasts more than 3-4 days.

We are happy that colchicine is providing you with relief for your gout and are not saying it is bad. This episode is targeted at educating medical professionals surrounding some of the pitfalls of colchicine use for gout in the ER. It sounds like you have a good regimen worked out with your rheumatologist, unfortunately an ER physician does not typically have the luxury of tinkering with doses for patients like your rheumatologist does.
@krubbek51353 жыл бұрын
@@EmergencyMedicalMinute no, your video never stated your target audience is ER medical professionals. The narrator (you?) goes on to say how "big ass" doses can kill you and that he would not be using colchicine "a lot" . You should really remove this disingenuous video. Gout sufferers already have a hard time being taken seriously and getting the treatment they need (and when we do the pharma companies fuck us on the price of colchicine because they know we'll pay it) so the last thing we need are BAD doctors spreading uneducated opinions. But this is exactly the type of clownery I would expect from healthcare professionals in the US.
