Hello... I live in India and it was very interesting for me to hear this.... In my culture we have a post partum regime that is followed where the new mother is given special nutritional bars that are home made and all have a lot of fenugreek seeds specially to increase milk production.. I always thought of this as an old wives tale so this was incredibly fascinating for me to hear....

Same here in Morocco. Post partum regimen =red onions+lentils+ fenugreek seeds + chicken (optional )

I'm 72 and fit as a fiddle. I do a variety of exercises but my bellwether is pull ups. Over the years I've gone down to 9 honest pull ups (no kipping) at a time. After several weeks of fenugreek, I was back to 10 pull ups. I soak about a tablespoon of fenugreek seeds in water overnight and then add oatmeal, ground flax seed, blueberries, walnuts. and a little salt for breakfast. Was there ever a better breakfast? I also take turmeric, black cumin, pomegranate, mushroom powder, etc.--all the good things that Dr. Greger recommends. I also lowered my PSA by 1.6 points. Thank you Dr. Greger.

I would wait for proper scientific studies before mainlining any herbal supplement. In this video I see no information on what was studied, or how. Supplements like herbs can vary widely depending on how and where they are made. Fenugreek will up your estrogen so...get ready for man boobs too

I've grown fenugreek in my back yard. I didn't realize it but, the foliage as it grows is also common in Indian cookery It's called methi. It's a member of the pea family, and doesn't have a strong flavor at all. I believe the most well known dish with methi is Methi aloo or Aloo methi. Potatoes diced and cooked on the stovetop with the methi foliage added at some point in the cooking. It seemed a very easy crop for me to grow, especially if planted Spring, early Summer. The seed pods however are a real chore.

If the study on milk production involved not just fenugreek but also two other herbal supplements, we can't really determine anything about fenugreek... what were the controls? how was the study done? on how many people? in what journal was it written up? how many other studies confirmed the results?

In the state of Gujarat in India (don’t know about the other states), they have pickles made with fenugreek seeds. It does not have the bitter taste normally encountered with fenugreek seeds. Also, at the end of some of the curry dishes (in many states), they add fenugreek leaves in the curries for flavor and for good presentation.

Just like flax seed rich in estrogen so is fenugreek but body make estrogen is much stronger than plant bass and it actually may prevent breast cancer because instead of body strong estrogen receptor will get plant weak estrogen . Plus it may help osteoporosis in menopause woman who lack estrogen . Like soy milk rich in plant estrogen is recommended for osteoporosis. But soy had been studied so u have info.

Dear Doctor, I respectfully request that you answer me this: fenugreek as you may know is a staple spice in Indian cuisine. In fact, not just the ground seed is used, but the foliage of the plant, a member of the pea family, as well. The foliage is called 'methi' and can be found in a dish with boiled potatoes called 'methi aloo.' My question is of course, whether methi leaves may have the same effect as the seed, albeit probably of lesser potency.

Yeah reducing testosterone is the exact opposite of what you want to do. You want to reduce dehydro testosterone but not free testosterone. Which is an estrogen problem and not a testosterone problem

No clinical side effects? Ehh .. not true if you are also on SSRI’s .. which many many Americans in this day and age are. Serotonin Syndrome from the concurrent use of SSRI’s and Fenugreek is well documented at some of the research hospitals in the US, and the concurrent use of Fenugreek while on SSRI medication is contraindicated in their research papers. You supposed ‘M.D.’s’ need to be really careful publishing this kind of information on social media sites like KZbin. I don’t need to tell you ‘Dr.’ Serotonin Syndrome can be fatal in some people.
