It was very clear that Va'ruun was pulled back from the spotlight in order to build mystery for a future storyline. They planned this from the beginning just like they said, but the first goal was to create a massive space game. If you saw the interview with the retired designer, there were huge systems that got cut because there just wasn't time in the schedule/budget to reach a high quality bar. Every time Bethesda adds something people say "Should have been there at launch" and they will continue to say that because they are ignorant to the realities of how things are made. You have a set amount of money and time, and whatever you create is what gets shipped or cancelled. Bethesda could have easily made a mass effect derivative game with big guardrails and no shipbuilding, but that wasn't the game they wanted to make, and I'm so happy we get to play the big-open space game. It can only get better from where it started.
@dantefettman3543 ай бұрын
Exactly. If I remember correctly, Bruce Nesmith (The retired designer you mentioned, unless you're talking about someone else) stated that they could've invested more time, money, and resources into making further improvements to Starfield's planet exploration. However, he said that if they went that route, they would've had to cut the entire ship building system. In my opinion, I'm glad they stuck with keeping the modular ship customization because it's by far the most engaging gameplay system in the game for me.
@lastdayer1013 ай бұрын
@@dantefettman354 Yeah i'm talking about Bruce. It is super unfortunate that the ship manufacturing/survival elements didn't make it into the game. A large part of people's unmet expectation stems from how purposeless the barren planets feel. If people understood, "Ok, this planet is great for building my ship, this planet is for my fuel, this planet is where the cool stuff is.", They wouldn't aimlessly wander the empty worlds thinking "Where is all the content?" I can understand players frustration at that, but I hope over time such frustrations are alleviated by new game systems, and more procedural variety.

Two things; loading games from tapes was a right pain. Rescue On Fractalus was probably my favourite from that era (such an inventive game). Not that I can remember much else, given my age then, but yeah, on Series X a game like Skyrim takes about 4secs to load a save, or less than a minute from turning on the machine to being in game. Just *hoping* a tape would actually load - and knowing some were going up cause you more problems - feels so strange in retrospect. I used flippy discs far more, and kinda hated them more... A satisfying 'clunk' when inserting and ejecting, but they seemed the most unstable medium, and corrupted far too easily. Maybe that's not historically true, but it bloody felt like it... Or perhaps it was the Amiga 500+ adding issues. Second thing; is iHUD for Skyrim on Xbox ever going to make a re-appearance? I started building a new LO a few weeks back, for the first Skyrim playthrough in an absolute age, and iHUD was always first on the list. There seems to be no comparable replacement. It's on F4, and works like a charm still, but not Skyrim. Oh, on Shattered Space; not played SF all year - barring Elite Dangerous-style check-ins on certain [invariably underwhelming] updates, and I was one of the gullible £100 at launch players. I did not buy a 'NASApunk' space game to be locked onto a purple cartoon world where people talk about 'Great Serpents'... I can understand why it clicks with some people, but I find that house ridiculous as opposed to intriguing. I've already paid for it, but I will not be playing it anytime soon. SF needs hefty modding attention to fix as much of it as possible. If the will is barely there on PC, then the trickle down to Xbox for the mods that matter will be minimal. Er, fingers crossed for TES...

I drove around for about 30-45 minutes, back when the Rev-8 dropped. It was pretty fun. Then I got hit with a common issue were I couldn't exit the buggy, due to a conflict with StarUI. I got it sorted out, after finding a "workaround" online. It was fun for a bit, but I did think it would be better if I had some place NEW to explore. Because driving around three planets I knew very well, were still kind of mmuh.. The best thing about the Rev-8 (that I discovered last minute) was it DOES have a "PEW-PEW" tied to the head tracking. Good times. Edit Fixed grammar Also wanted to point out the "irony" of the car being referred to as a "Buggy". Both in-game and by Bethesda. I'm pretty sure it's intentional.

Not only that, but you can leave at your leisure.. you're not "planet locked" or "mission-locked" or even "system locked" for that matter... So if you have business to take care of halfway across the Galaxy or wherever.. you can leave in the middle of a mission and go do what you need to do or whenever you'd like.. and come back later.

And before he starts the Deep dive, i start hearing "when I was a boy stories". Remember when you had to make games yourself by punching cards for a program in Basic to submit to a card reader? On the "handcrafted" comment.... It could be done, what they would need to do is have someone generate the landforms separately and then construct a couple of possible locations or quests in each. If it were done right then it might prove to be more enjoyable as no one suffers from Loadingscreenitis so much. Still they did mention the DLC size as equivalent to previous DLC's so.... Shivering Isles? It's probably just a water world with one landmass. For handcrafted planets, could you imagine teams of modders coming together to handcraft a star system... like Starfield: Britain? I think I need to get in and play around with the shipcrafting for my Va'ruun character in order to get the Vehicle module, though perhaps they'll have vehicle hiring LOL I only remember to use powers when I get confused about somethings, like I'll use the life-sight when I'm boarding a big ship and can't tell where the remaining vict.... people are. Loved the Marvin the Martian accent LOL.

I feel like Bethesda saw the "Ordinator" perk mod, and just got the wrong idea about why it was popular. It wasn't popular because it had tons of perks to spend points on, or even because the perk-tree itself was expansive. (not JUST quantity here) It was popular, because you could customize EVERYthing to YOUR play style. If you decided to stick with one particular skill, you could become a god among men and mer in that particular skill (and somewhat quickly, if you really focused on it). But if you "jack of all trades" -ed it, you were stuck pretty weak all around, but you could still get by pretty well. And every range in between. ;) Ordinator was good because it had OPTIONS, not quantity.

When people think of "a planet" in starfield, they aren't thinking about the entire how-ever-many-hundreds-of-square-kilometers, they are thinking of the main POI section of the planet. So for Jemison they are thinking of new atlantis, or for chyanne they are thinking of Akila City. Id say about zero percent chance anyone is actually thinking bethesda meant they were literally going to create an _entire_ planet, especially since bethesda has already said the dlc is about 50 locations.

I just got a mod that gives 90 perk points at the start. Plenty to get to mid-power. Still have to complete the 'challenges' to unlock the perks. Personally I'd want the perk points to go away entirely, just level up through doing like in Oblivion with base stats tied to overall level like Skyrim, but it's not too bad as-is.
