I find it interesting how nearly everyone had vague memories of the incident, and had a hard time of remembering exactly what happened or what they were doing, except for Jay. He remembered many of the details, including minor stuff like how deep the hole was and how long it took to dig. It almost sounds like he created the scenario in his head and thinks having as much detail as possible will make him sound more believable.

What I find odd is that Adnan had a hard time thinking about what happened that day 6 weeks ago because it was the day his ex girlfriend went missing. It was a day that he was questioned by the police the following day because they were looking for her. If the police came to me because my ex girlfriend went missing the previous day I would be thinking about that day a lot! I’d be trying to think of I saw anything!

Jay lied to minimize his role in the murder so he could plead guilty to accessory after the fact. Jay has always admitted to digging the hole, and has always said he never touched the body. Other details have shifted tho. Jay doesn't remember *every* little detail. In fact he forgot/misremembered a lot, perhaps because he was a stoner. But he *did* remember key details that give his testimony credibility -- the location of the car, the fact that the turn signal indicator was broken, the location of the cellphone at various points in the day, parts of Adnan's state of mind, etc.
@abpanda15965 жыл бұрын
@@mrjoobjoob17 maybe hes been in the car before? Maybe the cell phone pings was based on where Jay say Adnan, and probably saw him a few times that day so he uses that to his story. I believe the cops did check for evidence in the back of the trunk , such as human skin, hair, etc SOMETHING. but if they did do it, they found nothing because they never brought it up.

Apparently, a lot of people have to listen to the podcast for homework or whatever. If you are in that camp, here are some tips to keep in mind when watching: * Watch the video in two-times speed. Trust me, it is worth it if you don't want to waste an hour of your life trying to pay attention to details you could hear in 30 minutes. If you are unable to hear people with two-times speed, I pity you. * Don't look through the comments section and listen to the podcast at the same time. You can only pay attention to one thing at a time. * If you hear something important, paraphrase it and include the timestamp of the information (including episode number and who said it). When you have to write an essay over the topic, you will have information ready before the deadline. * Pay attention to the phrasing, or keep in mind the motives of the people making this podcast. Why did they (the writer and Sarah Koenig) provide that bit of information? I am asking this because some of you might be doing this to develop *rhetorical analysis* skills. This type of question is necessary when you want to write a good rhetorical analysis essay. * If you have homework questions regarding new information, try to see if there is a question that corresponds with information that you heard that may be important. Keep in mind, even if there is no question regarding what you thought was important, write it down as per the third tip. * Look at the website, Serial. There is some evidence provided that may be useful to some students, including more information regarding Adnon (such as the "appeal" or the cell records). If anything, they at least provided interesting information and may help you when it comes to time to write your first essay. _This is all for now._

Smart play considering if they ever found dna etc. Evidence that proves he was there he can say that he admitted to that but conveniently avoids admitting to being the person killing her. Jay picked adnan to be the scapegoat, blundering police (they love a Muslim scapegoat) helped him in this... a lot.

Though I feel jay had a part he doesn’t seem like the guy to perfect a murder and find a perfect scapegoat because I feel he would leave some type of evidence. Hae seemed like a very sweet person, and getting killed would of taken at least 7 seconds with the other person trying there best to escape. Also Adnan has no criminal record, an 18 year old WITH PROMISE he was a very smart kid why would he risk everything. His family, his caree, his FUTURE to kill his ex because she ran off with don. One thing that makes zero sense is her diary. Her diary has don name but Adam new phone number? Only reason why Jay did not sit in prison for many decades was because agreed to testify against Adnon and cut a deal. This happens all the time in criminal courts. Loved this podcast and loved seeing the HBO 4 part series on this. Is it just me or did it seem like the police had their own agendas and had ulterior motives? The justice system for this seemed corrupt. It was very convenient to convict Adnan Syed. The police used Jay to get the story that they wanted to hear. For a kid to spend his whole adult life to this point in jail with such a lack of evidence is a travesty. Somehow he is still filled with hope. I guess the only silver lining was the wisdom he gained, and his philosophical self-reflection.

JaizMusic - You might be interested in the movie/documentary “The Thin Blue Line”. It shows how (some) police are more interested in arresting and convicting someone instead of whether that person is actually guilty. I think police get burned out after years of dealing with nastiness, and if they think a person is a criminal in general (even seriously minor crimes), convicting them of a major crime is no tragedy. The police seemed to stop caring that the REAL culprit is free. I guess the police figure the real culprit will be convicted of something else, so, it doesn’t matter. Unfortunately, this makes the community mistrust the police. I was lucky, I grew up in an area where the police genuinely cared about helping the people they serve (and they did their jobs well).

If Adnan and Jay were both lying then I believe Jay deserved to plead guilty because if the story he was telling is in fact correct, then he might have definitely told it in Adnan’s perspective and claim that it was his. It’s very easy to switch the perspectives in a story and switch back to yours when you think it will benefit you

But wait.the girlfriend of Jay is called Stephanie, as in the prom princess who was mentioned in Hae Mins diary? Who was somehow dumped by Adnan to be with Hae? Crazy theory: Stephanie was in love with Adan and more than jealous of Hae, so she got somehow in contact with Jay, ending up planning to murder Hae Min and blaming it on Adan as a punishment? The dna found on the wheel in Haes car, could be Stephanies, who parked it there, so the story would make sense?

I like how you can hear jay clearly trembling with his words, he’s clearly hiding something from the judge, making it seem like he actually helped with the murder. The fact that he tell’s different stories every time also raises suspicions. I don’t think it’s too outrageous to put two and two together here.

Can someone explain the 6 week thing. Adnan was questioned the day Hae went missing. I just looked at the police report from Jan.13, 1999. Adnan said Hae was supposed to give him a ride that day, but he was running late, so he figured she just left. So what is this about how is he supposed to remember a day from 6 weeks ago? The best friend, Jay, is a major witness. What happened with his testimony in trial? Did the defense tear his testimony to pieces or was his testimony sound? Teenage rhetoric is not sound testimony which is probably why some people were not interviewed as possible witnesses since they were not credible and would be torn apart in court by the D.A. Wish they would have filmed the trial.

How in heck does it take "20-25 minutes" for two people to dig "6 inches"??? It might take that long for one person, stoned, to dig it. This, along with other statements, Jay made make me believe Jay acted alone in the death of Hae Min Lee.

It was January in Baltimore county I'm suprised they did it that fast. Go in the backyard in spring weather and try and dig 6 inches the length of a human. Now imagine a froze or wet damp dirt and digging threw that
@Rebecca-br2mw5 жыл бұрын
@@925_antioch_ca_rap Yep. The ground they would've been digging through was frozen. On the 13th there was snowfall on the ground and an ice storm coming in (which hit early morning of Jan 14, 1999) . It's hard to appreciate the energy this would have taken until you've tried to manually dig 4, 5, 6 inches into untilled earth, even in summer.

I honestly don't know how Sarah Koenig lives with herself for spinning this to point a finger at someone else. After listening to other podcasts and reading all the documents I believe Adnan is guilty. The evidence proves it. They are trying to get him off on a technicality. Educate yourself and listen to both sides of this argument. The Prosecutors Podcast is excellant. Hae Min Lee is the victim and her life mattered. She is almost completely ignored in this series.

I wonder if it is possible now to trace e-mails that have been sent 20 years ago. Maybe if they find the mails that Adnan was checking the day of the murder that would even more corroborate his alibi. They could have even traced the time he opened these emails... I wonder if that is possible.

"it was a completely normal day" - it was his best friend stephanies birthday, it was end of Ramadan and he was able to break fast that afternoon, and it's the day his ex-girlfriend goes missing. Even if he didn't know that she was murdered. At this point, the police end up calling him later that evening or the next day, can't remember which. But from that point forward he should have been racking his brain to remember every detail of the day before. It convenient. Now that he doesn't remember because so much time has passed, but he was spoken to immediately after her disappearance. It makes me really sad that this podcast said him free. I believed in his innocence when this first came out rechecked all the facts, looked at the cell phone pings, looked at all the documents myself, and now I realize there is no other explanation. He did it. It sucks, but he did it. Allegedly in my opinion.

To be fair I would remember the day a friend went missing 6 weeks ago more than a random day 6 weeks ago
@omosummer8404 жыл бұрын
@BURGATO ' I still got a notification so I guess it doesn't matter how long for some comments. But in reply: The police did question him (on the phone) that same day. I know I'd pay special attention to that day and start thinking about the whole day. Even if I don't remember seeing my ex is still remember details of that day. I say this because to this day, I remember what happened before someone I knew went missing because that day my family and I spoke to the police at around 10pm. The child was found an hour later but it stuck so I can imagine it being magnified for someone who wasn't found immediately. Otherwise, I wouldn't remember going to a random area and even all the shops that day especially as I was like 11 (and I remember little in terms of specifics at that age).
@omosummer8404 жыл бұрын
@BURGATO ' You make a good point there. I wouldn't be able to remember exactly what I did say 1:00-1:30 that day. Even now my memories are linked to places I went to that day and how the sky looked as well as information the police gave and even what the person who went missing said afterwards (it was a funny story). Im not a guy and I'll have to pass. Hope you enjoy analysing future mysteries. I can't wait to one day find out the truth about this case if it ever comes out!

My thoughts Jay killed her because Stephanie might have cheated on jay with adnan and they ain’t know he found out so it was a perfect set up because he left his car with him for the gift so Jay waited till she came out school and killed her and went to bury her but didn’t have enough time because he had to go pick up adnan from practice so that’s why the dig was only 6 inches and maybe adnan was actually at the library for one hour and went to practice and he came back to pick him up and it was a perfect set up

@@apollo1573 I am. Word choice is very important to analyze. People generally want to be truthful, and lying causes them stress. Often, people will inadvertently divulge tidbits of truth, if you listen closely. But, all I am saying is it is suspicious. It should not be interpreted as a confession, but rather interpreted along with all the other evidence.
