"Cool uncles" are the type that are great at parties but also imparts wisdom and maturity. You can't seem to learn anything from Bert. He isn't introspective, has no kernel's of knowledge. When the layers come off, he's just empty. Compare him to Bobby Lee or Theo Von. they can be really silly yet you can sense that they have a deepness to their thought process. It's funny you mention the Austin comedy scene - a friend of mine has been in Austin for ten years and he said he's given up going to comedy shows because, since Rogan came to town and Kill Tony blew up, all these shitty edgelord comedians are moving from New York and Boston and LA and trying to find their big break. I'm not talking about guys you've heard about from podcasts, but like the open mic scene - it's gone from a variety of decent to great comedians to a variety of guys who just sound like they want to get laughs on Kill Tony by being offensive. Bummer.

I have one buddy where I grew up I still discuss stand-up with all the time, and the most common statement we have when discussing a modern stand-up comedian is "I love him/her on podcasts and their personality, but their stand up is absolute trash". The 'comedy' part of comedy is slowly fading out.
@ignorantlyspeakingАй бұрын
We would probably say the same thing about Pryor and Dangerfield and Bruce and all the legends if they had podcasts in their day, and we were around and watching/listening. The expectations would be higher for their stand up compared to their real-time banter. Furthermore , not having the podcasting, and saving it all for the stage, likely made the greats’ comedy so much better. I wish the could both exist at the same time at max output, but if I had to choose one, it would probably be podcasts over stand up. If I could go to a stand up show every night I might choose stand up.

There is a hate for this wave of comics in general. Many people think they aren't real comedians. like comparing a genuine celebrity with talent who's incomparable to some reality star or famous youtuber. These podcast comics who all take turns on Rogan and pump out their own mediocre podcasts with little effort aren't good at the actual job...stand up comedy. They aren't even good at podcasting...once they get rich touring they mail it in doing their podcasts assuming their dumb fans will supporting them forever

Peace and love? That’s rich coming from someone who’s clearly just spreading negativity! If you want to preach about positivity, maybe try actually being positive instead of throwing shade.
