Finally! A good overview of how to hook this up! You take someone new to guitar with a small combo amp and they watch a couple hundred KZbin’s on how great Pod Go sounds and buy one. They watch a hundred videos with guys playing EVH getting studio sounding tones but never actually SHOW any detail of how to hook it to your crappy combo amp, your computer, or your monitor. Either they go into extreme detail on internal switching or something else but never actually show you where to plug in at or what noise will come out if you do this or that input/output. Now I’d like to see a video on hookup of the nice overdrive pedals I’ve got into the PG and get good tones. Thanks for putting this out there! It helped a lot!

I think you solved a mystery for me. A friend of mine came over with his Pod Go so I could test it out, as I was thinking of buying one for recording. We plugged the main mono output into my Allen Heath analog board via a DI box. It just sounded terrible with over driven and distortion sounds. It was harsh, sounded fizzy with the highs and muddy at times also. I don't think, based on what you mentioned here, that the IR cab was engaged, as I know this unit can sound really good from other videos I have watched. I was super very disappointed I will have to get my friend's Pod Go back over here for another test drive. Thanks for sharing this info as I really would like to get great distortion and overdrive recording direct into a DAW. Phil NYC Area

@@JasonCGuitarOfficial Yes, and thanks to your video I saw how you turn it on and off. This has to explain why my friend Pod Go sounded so bad through my recording mixer. Great vid. If you don't mind, a couple questions. 1. Did you run AMP OUT to the front of the amp or did you use the L Mono Out? From what I'm to understand, there is a difference. 2. Have you ever run direct-to-PA and ALSO to your amp/cab for live play? The reason I ask is because if you're running direct, the amp sound won't matter. You'll end up just using it for stage volume. 3. If you have FRFR's, you can also run XLR our to FOH from them. I've done it with the Headrush FRFR 108's a couple of times.

Hey Jason, thanks so much. I have been struggling with the 4 Cable Method and my Marshall DSL 20 for weeks. I could not get it to work or get my head around it. Been through the manual and numerous other forum posts. When I saw this video I thought "It can't be that easy", but EUREKAAAAA!!! A few things to mention though in the hope that it will help others struggling. The level of the signal before the Pod Go FX Loop block being passed through the FX Loop must be adjusted by the FX Mono Loop block controls, to get a nice level. My Marshall pedal FX loop switch must be engaged to bring in the effects after the Pod Go FX Mono Loop block. And, very importantly, the level of the effects/signal after the loop is controlled by the Pod Go main volume control. Which muddys the water and threw me a curve ball, as it has no effect on the signal before the FX Mono Loop block.

This video is a couple years old now, but question if anyone is still monitoring the channel. After a period of research and personal debate, I finally went with studio monitors as my home practice solution. In my case I purchased JBL 308 Mk II 8" studio monitors. My question relates to volume control, between the guitar, the Pod Go, and the monitors. I generally play on the acoustic sim and clean to medium-gain spectrum, rarely if ever using high-gain/heavy distortion effects or pre-amp/CAB IRs. All things being equal, when first deciding where mid/max volume is going to be and balance volume with quality of tone, is it better to: 1. Set guitar to 10 and monitor to ten, then tweak volume levels through the Pod Go 2. guitar to 10, pod go volume max, then find mid and max with the monitor 3. something in between (e.g. both pod go and monitor at 5, then adjust with either monitor or pod go). I know once I get max volume set (in my case, trying to avoid natural distortion on the monitor but loud enough to hear everything in the signal chain from the guitar itself to the effects and the pre-amp/cab IR) I can use the guitar volume knob to dial down or up for "pushing" the pod go into distortion or cleaning it up. Basically, seeking advice on what others have done in the balance of volume control between the three different main sources of volume level (not accounting for effects pedal volume levels, which I know is a bit more complex).

very useful! thank you. How can I run the podgo as a VST in my DAW in order to test the presets and make adjustments with a recorded riff? all I can hear from my DAW is the DI by connecting to my interface. I still cant dial a decent metal tone in this toy

@@JasonCGuitarOfficial I believe that connecting the output of the interface to the guitar-in of the pod go, can do a sort of reamp

@@gus3333 as far as I know, this is correct, just don’t put any kind of plugins and just run it from the PodGo.

I didn’t think it sounded bad with the cab turned on going through the front of the amp. Definitely sounded better through the effects loop though. How do you feel about the powered speakers Line 6 sells to be used with helix and this?

Jason Constantine I want to build a practice setup for home with the PodGo but don’t want to spend too much money on an amp or speaker for it, any recommendations under $500?

when you go into an amplifier aren't you suppose to use the amp out put instead. I thought that eliminates the cab and amp sims.
