It's worth noting that a lot of what I mention in this video is with a SC Trade perspective in mind from a player that enjoys trading with other players. On the topic of map sustain in the new league I believe it is better to over sustain and have some spare maps to sell or use and maybe respec into some extra stuff later vs not having enough maps and having stunted progression. Grim advocates for better safe than sorry.

once you get all 4 voidstones, i highly doubt you'll need the map nodes, since only t16 maps would be able to drop, so realistically you could beeline the 4 stones, and turn your entire atlas to t16(for mid/late game tree)

If you find you are oversustaining comfortably (average say... 2 maps return every map you run) then by all means you can cut those map nodes (assuming you're not interested in selling those extra maps). "Better safe than sorry" is a good strat to start with. You can always make adjustments later.

To the best of my knowledge, map equity doesn't work like that for the highest tier of the maps, because there are no T17+ maps. So your "rolled" T16 remains T16. With +lvl bonus, the resulting portion T15 turn into "boosted" T16, increasing your T16 drops. If your atlas only has T16 maps, it converts lower tier rolls into T16, which using the formula for geometric progression results in extra maps equal in number to half of "rolled" T16. So every 3% chance for +1 map lvl is equivalent to 2% more maps. This is the first league after map equity system introduction where map equity system will not cause weird spikes or gaps in map drops. With Atlas connected like it is in 3.17, maps or relevant tiers will simply drop, not interacting with equity system in any way.

The tree is extremely nice, added map tiers is utterly amazing, that's the hardest part about running maps is getting a good sustain of high tier maps, but now you should be able to easily keep a stash of reds. But I am really looking forward to target farming certain maps and constantly running them.

Everything in this video still applies, just do wanna note that the dissapearance of regions is essentially gonna feel like you're sustaining maps a bit better as well. Because previously mapsustain was actually kinda stupidly easy but you had a 1 in 4 or prior to that even 1 in 8 of your maps actually being useful, you had to sustain all your regions at once making it feel incredibly bad to take a hit on mapsustain. Now we're back to the elder system basically even a bit better since it's so linearly bottom to top now and not spreading thin into 4 corners simulating a bit of a regionish effect still. I think we will be taking an inevitable hit on mapsustain and early game this here will be absolutely mandatory until we know more but before we panic and I just know some people are panicking right now because me 1 year ago would've been panicking right now, it is going to feel much less shitty than it appear from the raw numbers because you will only have to farm maps in 1 giant region, any T1 will progress you to the entirety of T2, any T2 will progress you to the entirety of T3 etc. There's no more Haewark T3 and Glennach T3 and if I socket Glennach I can get more in Haewark and sustain it just enough to get by, it is unified and its going to feel much better now regardless of taking a hit. After all I don't think anyone truly ran out of red maps, we all just kept running out of red maps in our specific region we wanted to run, that's what made it feel so bad to have poor sustain.

For the end end game tree, it seems like sextants lasting an additional charge would only work if YOU rolled sextants, but that seems a bit unlikely because you'll want to be buying bulk. I would guess when a person sucks up the sextant mod to sell it, it would store the current number of charges.

Yeah it seems like you don't need to take that point on the tree if it works the way we think it does. Some people will just specialize in sextant rolling with the +1 point and everyone else will buy from them.

@grimro I am almost 90% sure that we get two Atlas passive trees. Watch clips of the reveal. In the upper left hand corner when they show the Atlas there's only one button that I assume takes you to the passive tree. There's another spot where they show the Atlas at full completion and there's TWO buttons!!! It could be another surprise like they gave us with the Uncharted realms but i guess we shall see!

Either that or it could be another secret tree like when GGG introduced the old passive trees that you could access right on the Atlas screen itself. GGG never revealed the Uncharted realms tree. @Grimro will unspec those "core map nodes" by the end of week two, if not by the end of week one. Under-sustaining is the new meta. Grimro will bulk buy maps, not sustain them. His argument isn't exactly wrong, but he's forgetting two things: opportunity cost, and the cooperative nature of the PoE economy. He did a great video in November 2021 explaining how the economy works by each level of player feeding the demand from players playing a more challenging tier of content. (e.g. some players farming Betrayal for scarabs which are used by people who can run T16 delirium, others farming T16s for guardian maps, which they sell to bosskillers farmers etc). What GGG have done by moving map completion bonus to the tree is very clever: they have created a NEW BOTTOM TIER OF FARMERS. Causuals and nubs, who previously didn't have a proper farming strategy and just hoped for currency from alch&go, now have an entry level strat: farm for maps and bulk sell. Players who can farm at Grimro's high level of efficiency will find it more efficient to use those atlas points to juice their maps further, and bulk buy maps from casual players. Casual players now have a way to feed the economy even without understanding complex items in demand or how to farm them. Great job, GGG.

The only time I will respec the nodes is if I am literally oversustaining my favorite map by a significant margin and no one else on the market is interesting in buying the excess, pretty sure that's what anyone would do though.

Just a quick clarification, if a map drops 1 tier higher that's essentially triple dropping a map of the original tier. Grim says 300% more maps, but it's actually 200% more. (300% more would be x4, not x3) likewise when he says 900% more it should be 800%. shouldn't change much about the actual essence of the video but as there's a lot of math involved in figuring out stuff i thought it was important to keep the numbers on point.

Kirac missions are not affected by your atlas passives. They may be nice at the beginning of your mapping process but as you gain more and more atlas points their efficiency will drop in comparison to normal maps.

Like if you spawm niko on the map with kirac or scarabs , blight spawms not or less? - why are you not picking the +1 kirac daily mission node on the league starter tree? you already pathed to the node, it costs 1 point to get a free kirac mission every day. Seems very strong for map sustain and choosing the right league mechanic instead of wasting scarabs. - What also looks nice in general are the strongbox nodes which grants always rare boxes and 6% chance to contain scarabs.

I think it should be mentioned that the equity would only work the way you describe when you have nothing but T14-16s on your atlas (i.e. it ramps up from all the lower tier maps that are denied from dropping due to not having an eligible map to choose from, if I'm understanding correctly what you're talking about at the start). If you have a tier of each map available, then the equity system never ever activates in the first place - the map just drops and that's that. I don't think anybody is getting 4 Voidstones fast.

Also as a follow up to this, I think low tier MF strats might be on the table with this Atlas. It's way easier to sustain a low tier map since you have the option to spec OUT of all the +1 map tier nodes, which is not something you could do in the Conqs version.

I'm going Tormented Spirits + Rouge Exiles for occasional loot explosions with occasional death. There's 60% increased quantity on possessed/touched + 30% more quantity + Rogue Exiles are possessed. Think this will be very crazy for group farming, you could have all the players dedicate to a certain tree each then run new content when bored of one at anytime, start up as one tree has pure map drops with quant, rare and kirac, then get another to run special content once you clear up tiers and finally a pure boss tree for when you want to just clean house for those new jewels or uniques.

If you want to play SSF taking all the map nodes and then essence and corrupted strongboxes is probably GOATED.

Take all the Shrine nodes, and run The Gull/Blunderbore/Elegant Hubris for Supreme Ostentation/Shaper's Presence. Run all quant/rarity gear and take tormented rogue exiles/torment 30% more quantity node. You're likely to either hit a Covetous Shrine that lasts like 3 minutes, 20 tormented Rogue Exiles or both if you're lucky.

Abyss is so wild, already connected to the basic tree people are doing, and 180% increased monsters for 6pts+scarab for 2-3 abyss per map without taking a sextant or using Kirac mod. And can go more budget and use the Kirac mod for 3-4 abyss per map and only 2c map device mod.

@@Grimro i think the prophecy farmers will become sextant farmers, and it will be cheaper to buy bulk, this will save you time on buying sextants, rolling desired ones and then selling the ones you dont use, so you can recoup some of the sextant cost, and all that time you can spend mapping

Can anyone help me out over here. I think there are some mistakes made in the atlas passive tree. So Eater of World side of the tree we got notable Rampant Growth that gives 10% chance to duplicate the new implicit currency in the areas influenced by Eater of Worlds. Well, on the opposite side of the tree dedicated to the Searing Exarch we have notable Word of the Exarch that gives again Eater of Worlds influenced areas 10% dupe chance on the currencies instead of, what I imagine should be, the Searing Exarch influenced areas. Same with notables The Light of Dawn and The Shadow of Hunger, they both have increased chance to find Eater of Worlds Altars in Areas. Am I missing some kind of crucial information here?

Feeling forced to take the map nodes defeats the purpose of having them on the tree I feel. This is why anything close to mandatory for atlas progression that is tied to the tree is a bad thing. Imagine a new player or even one that played the last 2 years, expecting similar map drops not knowing the importance of investing into map sustain this league and he's playing ssf. How would it feel if he can't get to yellows when he used to easily get to t16. This should have remained a part of atlas map progression bonus. The extra boost to map mods bonus was not necessary. And give us more interesting stuff to pick from by replacing those nodes. P.S. There are 8+ years veterans that don't understand how the map equity system works. I'm sure new players will :)

Well that's how the game is balanced, actually. You are also forced to take Life or ES nodes on the passive tree to have a functional build

You are not forced. After a while, when you have a sufficient map pool and or red tier maps drop in price, you can start buying them and respec atlas tree to gain more juice out of them for more profit per map instead. As such, the skill level in PoE is and always was about understanding the mechanics and to come up with strategies depending on your progress. New players typically get stuck in story mode since they have no clue what to take on the level passive tree which forces them to look up at least the mechanics, if not a complete guide. Correct planning prior to playing was always the most beneficial way of playing the game. However, trees were always customizable and as such, mistakes can reactively be straightened out, with the punishment for false decisions getting more the longer you don't notice it. You notice that your map drop rate is bad? What can i do to make it better? -> skill towards map drops. That's kinda the essence of what PoE is about compared to other arpgs. Is it noob friendly? Nop. Never was. Is it one of the reasons on why ppl stick with playing PoE instead of Diablo which takes you by the hand and guides you through the journey? I'm pretty sure yes. There is just so much more to learn here. As such, playing SSF is you yourself forcing yourself to certain restrictions to make the game harder. As such, you should think about how to circumvent your the restriction you yourself put upon yourself. It's like you claiming PoE is too unfriendly to noobs because they die too fast in hardcore. As such, if an 8+ years veteran don't understand how the map equity system works, that means that at some point of his PoE career he stopped investing in learning the game. If he still has fun with the game with the way he plays it, cool. If not, he should either invest a little time to learn about those things. Learning about those things were never as easy as they are currently. With ppl like Grimro giving you the opportunity to just copy paste whatev the smart players do. He literally THINKS ahead for you, so you don't have to. That's his content.

The people advocating for the no map bonus trees seem to be having a big post - 3.13 mindset, all about how to max juice for maximum profit, because the mapping system is solved. I think its super important for us to think back to the start of conquerors, where half the player base spent half the league aimlessly wondering around white and yellow maps with no idea what was happening. True this system should be simpler, but that wont make it easier, and you should expect GGG to be putting landmines in this system for noobs to wonder into like they do every expansion.

If you juice correctly you'll have 0 issues. Every league I Alch EVERY map. If you run out of Alchs, you can use Orb of Bindings, and Harvet Crafts. It's so easy to Alch every single map. White Maps - Alch and go Yellow Maps - Maybe chisel, Alch and go Low Reds - Chisel, Alch, Corrupt High Reds - Chisel, Alch, Corrupt, Sextants, Scarab Loads of guides out there on how to juice maps correctly!

That is a new sextant modifier they added to the pool for 3.17. There will probably be a few other new ones that could define end game strategies for currency.

Those only apply to maps that drop from the strongbox, which is why it's connected to the Carto box node. It doesn't apply to the drops from the packs that strongboxes spawn.

Are the scarab nodes really worth it for 5 points? It's only a 10% discount

Well it's very easy to calculate the value you get out of it. If you use cheaper scarabs on your maps, then it's going to be 0.3-1c value per map and you'd generally prefer some other content bonus instead of that. If you're using expensive winged scarabs then you're increasing your profit margins on them by a notable amount and it's likely much more valuable than an extra essence, shrine, or strongbox. Personally, I wouldn't consider the nodes if I was spending less than 20c on scarabs every map.

@@GunWraith There's also the 4% chance to drop a scarab per map (or per "unique boss"), which we'll see how the weights are but could add 1c per map on its own as well.
