I think you can also take the 5% ms for 1 point near the ranger start. I would take it ASAP while you don't have much ms anywhere else and unspec later after the transition to poison and at least 25% ms boots

Great! I always played elementalist the last leagues, cause they are very easy to level up and i can go HoT Autobomber with them later. But this looks so good, that I will play a Ranger this league what I haven't done for some leagues. Maybe there will be some kind of Autobomber later. Thx for your good work.

Nice guide. Tried leveling with your pob and it was smoother than i thought it would be. The only thing that i changed and was a good quality of life addition was blink arrow cooldown recovery bow mastery. Hopefully we will all get transfigured ca in first lab.

Worst case we can run merciless lab and dump a bunch of level 1 gems there. We can use it to rapidly level gems there afaik

Hi @Palsteron, thanks for the awesome guide. Couple of quick question, managed to get the transfigured caustic gem. Do I swap it over now? Just wondering as this gem is doing DoT anymore and don't benefit from those passive nodes. Would you put it on the totem or self? Cheers.

I just did a practice run, planning to only complete the first lab, but it felt so great and smooth that I accidentally completed the entire campaign. Im not sure to start it, probably LA and look later what this build can do and later may be respect into it with good gear, since ele bow will work for it as well. The biggest disappointment was when I found out that I had two Toxic Rain MTX and applied to both gems. Then, I checked Path of Building again and realized I needed to swap to Caustic Arrow (and I don't have an MTX for it) 🤣

Hey! I started the last league with your Hexblast Mine, it was really fun to play and fun to gear! But mine play style kills my wrists at this age, so I was looking into totem builds. And TADA! You have a build for us this league too! I did a few test runs of different non-meta builds(I like meta builds but EA, SRS, and ignite all got stale for me) and this Poison Caustic Arrow build is one of the smoothest, most fun experiences I had. I might go as far as to say this feels better than toxic rain, and EA. Minimal passive respec, visually clean and fun, faster damage output, decently tanky for a totem build. The only downside is gearing is a bit harder than TR, EA but I find it not a huge deal if you play trade league. For a few people who are curious, yes you can actually use 2L CA all the way from the start. I did have a 3L Toxic Rain totem set up but I didn't use it except for a boss fight or tougher rares. self attack 2L(preferably 3L) CA is enough to handle most of the situations. Mid act 4 and beyond, having 2 4L set ups(one for totem CA, one for self attack CA) speeds up early game progression. You can melt pretty much everything within a sec self attacking with no gear. So if you're tired of TR, or don't like how slow TR is just use CA from the get go. Not a big deal. With totem nodes invested(placement speed especially), having some attack speed, you can get rid of self attack part. OR the other way, you can go self attack route only using totem for bosses. Poison CA is that solid. CUDOS to Palsteron for finding out this fun build! And I did the test run with, obviously, normal CA gem. AND with no tincture(all damage CAN poison). So you can only imagine how smooth this build's gonna feel once the league actually starts and you have all the new stuff.

The thing with penance mark is that you´d have to go for the other ascendancy thingy which only has 3 good notables we might use. Very high opportunity cost since you´d have to drop asenaths or despair or find another +1 curse somewhere. Another thing is you cant use tinctures so you´d be stuck with darkscorn due to no "all damage can poison".

If you have the accuracy, it should be good after you transition to CA and before you start scaling too much poison. You don't care about crit so it seems like not much downside

So you want to switch to the new CA gem directly after first lab / lvl 38? Do we know how big the chance is to get the right gem in a lab run? With this Setup you have to run the lab at least twice...

Im a HH enjoyer. You think I can go full phys for all the added damages from hh or is an elemental bow strictly better. Also you see a way transferring this to mf. I played CA MF last league and it was pretty good just the single target sucked and that hh didn’t provide any damages. Cheers

Why projectile damage doesn't apply to the poison? I thought you where scaling the hit to increase poison damage.

This is how the damage is calculated in poe, for now ignoring all reduction and avoidance, when enemy is hit, the flat damage is recorded. This flat damage is then used to calculate ailments, and hit damage separately. So the proj damage increases the HIT part, having no effect on the ailment part, and ailment damage increases the poison part, not the hit part. For example, the unbound ailment support gem, makes hit damage 80% less, only reduces the hit damage, but gives more damage on ailments. Since most ailment builds don’t care about the hit part, it’s a pretty good support gem to use.

@@lordempalator Yes, poe damage has “tags”, if you wanna increase your damage, you need to match at least one tag. Poison has “ailment, dot, chaos” tags, so increase ailment damage, dot and chaos damage will increase its damage. GENERIC damage will tho, “you deal x% increased damage” increases all damage you deal (that is, not minions). Another ailment like ignite, is fire damage over time, thus it has “elemental, fire” tag, in this case elemental damage and fire damage will increase the ignite damage.

no. These do not scale the same way. toxic rain will scale on duration, and attack speed. You are scaling the hit with this. It would do something but, would not be the most efficient way to scale TR.

@@beansantino as an extremely short explanation, you are shotgunning a hit with this. Shotgunning TR with the poison TR will involve gems and area manipulation that aren't in this build. In short you can do this but it won't be the most efficient way to play it.

I was league starting with my guy Aero.. This build has me cheating on my camp. Fkn did it to me again! There are just SO many ways to problem solve with this build. Even for an average player like myself, with tinctures, and the ability to get poison cap so easy, The Flask power with this ascendency, the up time with dmg, there is just to much to ignore. Also, Aer0 is league starting my FAVORITE build that he has made to date lol.. So its a sweet and sour feeling to not be league starting that with him. But this build is impossible for me notto play.

poisonous concoction is another option for leveling this build. absolutely clowns on the campaign in conjunction with plague bearer but falls off pretty hard after you run out of life flask upgrades. trees are similar but probably want to do a minor respec in early yellow maps once you find a useable bow.

Me too. I love pathfinder and toxic rain but guardian is ez mode and also tanky due to the big guy taking 20% of your hit damage on you. Plus you don’t have to worry about totems dying. So hard to choose as both sound good

well if u get the tincture the replica one will be just as good (if its lvl 29 added cold), and u can go Hyrii ( not cheaper usually) or even dendrobate. Just know the extra duration part is just pob boost but the increased damage is good

It wouldn't feel entirely awful at all, caustic arrow is still good, it's just toxic rain is better for that portion of leveling. You'll be a bit slower, but very much doable.

You still want Toxic Rain Ballista for single target. Hit based CA ballista will probably feel bad before you get a lot of overlap at lvl 38

Looks to be a very solid build for league start. But after playing EA and freezing pulse totems several leagues, I know it's not my taste and stay away from it. I prefer self casting else I find no joy playing PoE even if totems are easy mode
