Might be because there were other targets in the Heist boss arena? "chain in random directions" might mean it differs from the regular behavior, which seems to be perfer a similar direction. (i.e. perferring targets behind the last one hit if there are any. It only reverses direction if thats the only nearby target.)

Been playing around with the gem a bit. Even with the nerf it feels a lot better than the normal version to me. The bounces will actually track to a boss and are only "random" if you throw it away from something or there is a group of things. It's a pretty fun skill

@palsteron what if we ignore the flask part completely and scale the dmg with follow through cluster jewels as these provide 15% increased poison dmg per chain remaining i think it might be possible to scale it like that to still end up being better then normal poisonous concoction even without a life flask at all , this tho would probably depend extremely on the bahaviour of the flask and how good it really overlaps

Are you sure Fury Valve actually works? Sounds like it could be that Fury Valve changes the added projectiles to split targets and then when the skill gem looks at the number of added projectiles to change them to chains, it doesn't see anything to convert at all.

I don't know if there's an already existing gem with the same wording to test with, but for the vast majority (maybe all) things in PoE, the gem itself takes priority. The most well-known example of this is damage conversion. If you have 100% of phys converted to fire, but you're using a gem that converts all phys to Cold, then you get 100% Cold Damage, not the 50/50 split you would get from two off-gem sources.

For what we have going on with the new league mechanic, as much as I love taking this gem, I'll avoid builds around empty slot/s. It's a waste not trying to craft potential good tier crafted weapons with me taking this. I'll pass on PConc as a starter despite already having a POB on this 😢.

This is a very safe league start IMO.. regular pconc is still VERY strong thru campaign and early progression until you can get the gem.. and even if the gem is ass, you can easily pivot to TR/CA.. and even if you dont like TR/CA.. you can (less easily) pivot to a LA deadeye or LS Raider.. Ranger is just always a very safe starting class.. and with regular pconc, its impossible to end up with a "bricked" build. You might just have to run some low tier maps (or heist) doing chaos recipe to be able to afford the pivot.

Ahhh, PConc my beloved! The best league start I ever had, and the saddest patch notes afterwards. But this gave me hope! Tonight PoB will have to work overtime again to see if I can get enough life flask charges with all the reworked masteries and tree elements as well as make a comfy build. (Occultist)

I'm gonna have to give this a try as a good ol' flaskmancer. I expect if you don't take Pathfinder you'll either have to use a second flask or heavily invest in increased charges gained. Still, I'm happy that flask scaling is back on the table - it was one of the biggest disappointments for me. Why even bother having base PC scale off life flasks if it consumes too many charges to realistically be useful?

There's a 300% multiplier for initial poison hits in the Poison Mastery. It could actually be useful if that 30% boosts PConcs first hit to something decent.

Yeah, and 30% being almost 3x higher than base PConc (added-from-flask I mean) to take advantage of that Mastery + proliferation being only the highest poison should make clearing way less annoying. It's going to want some AoE for more overlaps anyway. Not to mention a DoT build where your damage is lingering (albeit randomly) for 7, 8, 9+ extra hits can help clean up stragglers behind/offscreen. The 30% is already quite good. Imagine the potential green & red screen clutter this can create, though...

You only need three overlapped projectiles in traditional CC for the flat damage to be better, it's not even hard to do

Better than 1 hit*? If a 9 proj non-T gets all 9 to overlap, it's only slightly more added flat from Life Flask as Transfigured hitting 3 times (99% vs 90% assuming the bonus won't scale with gem levels)... and that would be 3 out of 11 potential hits (base +2 gem +8 proj chains). Both of these getting some AoE or a huge boss hitbox to do it. Not to mention using 6 instead of 9 Life Flask charges. What about the way it might interact with Nimis, or reducing proj speed? It definitely has potential.

Oh, no -- the original version definitely has better up-front single target damage. It also gets that 15% attack speed boost. We'll have to wait and see how it feels, though. Good luck to anyone league starting it, but at least it has good fallback options!

You cant spam this and sustain 6 charges. Even if you get ALL sources of flask recharge , you can barely get 3 for second. And if the chain doesnt hit at least 3 times, you are losing dps. May be good, but 100% sure that's not a league start. The regular one is ok but this is something that need testing

Get a coin, a pen and paper, flip the coin, if you get heads, add 1, if you get tails add -1. Do it one hundred time and add the whole series of 1 and -1. True randomness usually doesn't look "random" because our everyday expectation of randomness is pretty bad. My hunch is that they will need to bias the random so it actually looks "more random".

Arent chains always toward some enemy, so random chain means chain towards random mob? Since hes alone, they hit him once, they chain of the floor, and then, since its the only enemy, bounce back on him. If i had to guess, maybe in case single target, you get 1 hit per 2 chain

Fury valve wouldn't add extra proj, the extra proj is converted to splits. 99% sure this happens before asking the skill if it can split so you'd simply lose all extra proj and gain no splits. Maaaybe the skill will override but I'm doubtful.

Is it not possible "random directions" could just mean random directions toward nearby enemies? Chains can't chain to the same target so by making it "target" random directions it can technically still chain to the same enemy. This would at least make it viable for single target because otherwise I can only see it as a dead skill.

You are kinda assuming away is random and circling isn't, that can't be right. First of all, we all knew there is no true RNG in video games, it's hard to implement and it doesn't make sense to implement (other than proof of concept), it's very likely the random behavior of proj in this skill is something like "after landing, the proj turns a certain degrees from the original direction and fires again"

Mjolnir is still a very rare drop... any time there's ANY demand for it, the price skyrockets bc there just simply isn't enough supply to flood the market. Planning a mjolnir "league start" is setting yourself up for pain.. even very common uniques can shoot up to 100c in the first couple days if a league when they're "good" for a popular league starter, let alone required to enable the build.
