I just started studying Shakespeare and I've been examining this Sonnet for a while. I have a pretty good grasp on it and there is a lot of fascinating linguistic stuff happening in addition to the personal and historical context that Shakespeare was writing in. I'd be happy to break it down for you guys line by line if you're still interested

It speaks about the desire for beauty to be passed on through procreation, but criticizes someone for being selfish and not sharing their beauty with the world. The poet seems to be imploring this person to share their gifts with the world and not keep them to themselves

What a beautiful sonnet by Shakespeare! True, we don't read anymore. Social media is making people passive and more reactive than proactive.

The first hundred plus were written to a beautiful boy that Willie was hot for. The last several were written to the bard's black mistress. Written while the theater was shut down due to a plague & Shakespeare had nothing to do but indulge in sex & sexual fantasies.

объясните, американцы всегда читают стихи так? в плане, мне кажется что все таки в россии/украине стихотворения читаются более эмоционально, а тут я даже эмоций особо не услышала... это мое восприятие или действительно так?
