The second verse of this song is kinda slept on, but its so Lana. "There's a girl that sings "Hotel California", Not because she loves the notes or sounds that sound like Florida, It's because she's in a world, preserved, only a few have found the door" she's using her indescribable love for this song as a symbol for her being misunderstood in her relationships, and I especially love it within the context of the song. She's longing for someone who can just understand these unique things about her without needing an explanation, but feeling hopeless like the universe has forgotten her. T_T

She's a freaking lyrical genius, she’s comparing herself to the tunnel and opening the song with "Did you know there's a tunnel under Ocean Blvd?" When no one I know and people online knew about that tunnel, it’s because that's whole the point, the once popular tunnel that attracted a lot of people because its cultural value is now gone and no one remembers it, just like Lana sees herself in the future (and all of us actually), when one day someone asks "Did you know there's an artist named Lana Del Rey?" and no one will remember her, and just like the tunnel, she was at her peak with Born To Die, her more popular moment but now she is calmer and she wonders "when will it be my turn?" To be forgotten, like the tunnel It's almost like she's asking God, but she also says "Don't forget me, like the tunnel under Ocean Blvd." All of this added to her love interest and her desire to feel loved and want to feel that she will be remembered 😢😢 like all of us I love your reactions!

She also touches on hotel California which is also a metaphor for being trapped in the fame. She also says people try to escape the fame but theirs mirrors on the walls and they are stuck & lost themselves. As she says some are preserved and find that door back to themselves in the song. So she’s really saying she wants to continue to make art but doesn’t want to be sucked into the fame so she wants to do it her way but doesn’t want to be forgotten like this tunnel.

The song is all a metaphor the song is called did you know that theirs this tunnel under ocean blvd because it has been sealed off and forgotten about even though it was a beautifully crafted tunnel with mosaic painted tiles she’s comparing herself to this tunnel and asking us and or her relationship to not forget about her like we all did this tunnel. Saying she’s beautiful but has been closed off. Saying when’s it going to be my turn that I’m going to just be forgotten. Then she says” open me up tell me you like it”( like the tunnel) “f me to death” just to feel something..

I agree Shea. I definitely think this song is Lana seeking out God/Universe to guide her to her true love but I also think this song has double meaning. I have always felt Lana deeply feels she has not received the proper credit from the music industry. Younger artists have emerged, borrowed from her style, and became bigger stars. She's now wondering, "when will it be her turn" to walk in the sun?
