As a recovering addict, I never thought of this song as her singing to/about the drugs. "I don't wanna live, don't wanna give you nothing bc you never give me nothing back. Why can't you be good for something?" It never clicked for me until you said something. Now this song is even more special to me. She's completely right too. Drugs will take everything from you and give you nothing in return.

I hope you're doing well, recovery is no joke. I feel the same way about some of her songs. I never thought about how "Ultraviolence" was about Jim Beam, and then it clicked. I used to be a heavy drinker, but I haven't had a drink since January. Proud of you! Keep going. 🙏💟

its most likely about her cutting off a friend/lover who is doing drugs and she cant help. its a reccuring theme in her music and she was in a group for addicts when she was younger, after she got sober. she got sober but he didnt and he was bringing her down and she had to let go for her own good

I don't know if anyone's ever mentioned it in the comments, but one of Lana's ex's died of an overdose. I feel like she could be talking about losing him and others in this song. She also refences in in the song Heroin. Also, "Is this Happiness?" is a song I'd love to see you react to. Thank you so much for these videos!

@@pcbusby Hi! I just wanted to say that the story of k was made up by lana, k is alive and well + married, his real name is josh kemp and video games, blue jeans and born to die are about him, the actor she had in the blue jeans and btd mvs are also based on his looks. Idk if he ever went to prison but he clearly wasn't put on death row like she says in the song

This is not true at all. Lana never had a boyfriend who overdosed. Heroin is about a friend who had a rocky relationship with the drug itself. If you are talking about "K", then you are wrong because he was just in jail. He did have a boyfriend who died but did not overdose. Stop spreading misinformation to Meredith. Just like @pawnblue said.

Lana's vocals are so powerful on this one. I was thrown off by the beginning too upon first listen, but then she comes in with the "I don't wanna liiiiiiive" and I was blown away. She said in an interview that she wanted to scream on this one because she's always so gentle and quiet. Because she was like "I do scream, I do and I want them to hear that" or something along those lines. Blue Bannisters is so personal, I really loved that this was when she started to work with her dad and they made the song for her sister, "Sweet Carolina". Blue Bannisters walked so Did you know that there's a tunnel... could run. Damn, girl. I don't know what you've been through, but hang in there. This is why I'm always sending you purple hearts, because you're a warrior. You have nothing to be sorry about. Love ALWAYS. 💜💜💜

the thing about dealer is that unlike so many sad songs that can have very like in general scenarios, dealer is about one very specific predicament and feeling that when the people who get it, get it, they get it in a way that hits so heavily. and this feeling hits regardless of which perspective you see it from and who its targeted at.

Oh, Mere, I'm so sorry you had to go through that. I'm an alcoholic myself, although it's been 955 days since I last tasted alcohol. It's been somewhat rewarding when I get to rebuild the bridges I've burned, but I know I hurt a lot of people and those were the ones who cared the most. But I'm also on the other side of this, my father is also an alcoholic and I do understand most of the feelings you find it hard to deal. It's crazy that my decision to change was also made with the intent of inspiring him, but the fact is you can only help those who wanted to be helped. It must have taken all your forces to be brave enough to leave, but I'm happy for you that you did. And I'm sorry again. Oh, and by the way, this song is from the same sessions as California (from NFR!) and Thunder (also from Blue Banisters). You should check them out since they seem to be talking about this same individual, but through different lenses.

This song for me definitely had a double prospective where Miles is using and Lana is mad at him.Addiction is quite complicated, Mere! For the person using and those who love them, it's like you can't bring yourself to hate them for wreaking devastation and choas for their own selfish reasons, but you can't totally support them since it kills you to see them but it's out of your hands. You are incredible and brave for doing this, and I greatly appreciate it; you are like a mother to me, and I am so glad that you are facing this without breaking down ❤.

Here from Therapist to Therapist: thanks for showing everyone, that we are also emotional beings und have our problems. That's why we became therapists y'all. In german we say "feel youself huged" when we want to give someone a hig but can't do it right now. So, feel youself huged:)

I believe in transparency and we all need more of it. social media and people on KZbin shouldn’t only be showing the edited versions of ourselves. Everyone has gone through shit and the sooner we show it, the less alone we will feel. That’s why I’m so grateful for you all. It is therapeutic. ❤❤❤

When i used to be in addiction with weed 2 months ago i used to hear this song all the time because i can relate to every thing it says, thankfully, I quited it by choice eventually, and i relized the tons of money i have lost and everything i have done for that drug was for nothing, and I am sorry what you gone threw those feelings from that song, We keep strong together

I just found your channel thru this video, and haven’t watched the video until the end,but I’m gonna shortly tell about who is Miles - his full name to Miles Kane,he’s an English singer & musician,he is co-frontman of “Last Shadow Puppets”,it’s a group of two people - one of them is Miles and second one is Alex Turner,he’s also the main singer of Arctic Monkeys. The point is,Alex and Lana used to be friends and even had dating rumors, and since they were friends and thru Alex she met Miles and they became all friends. “Dealer” is actually one of her unreleased songs that nobody knew about, like it was probably recorded in 2016-2019.Before all of these stuff in 2020,if she was posted before Blue Banisters, she probably would add his name as “Featuring”,but Lana & Alex don’t talk anymore for a long time now and with Miles too since he’s his friend. That’s why he’s in the song

Well I am really sorry for what you had to go through, I relate to this song a lot because I lived that experience with my Ex girlfriend, I used to be addicted on Weed, and made our relationship worse even though she tried to fix me but she couldn't in the end she ended up she can't find me even through my dealer nor my father wish left for over 10 years the home didn't see him since then and the doctor she took me too, won't give her any info, she gave me all her money for real she paid my doctor bills cause i had spent all my money on weed, she paid my bills..etc, then she couldn't reach me out anymore then left, then i figure out my situation and thankfully i recovered and i appologized to her, i didn't get her back, but i did fix what she had to go through... in conclusion, Addiction is bad thing to get at, since it harms you and harms who's around you, Thank you so much for your reaction, in I am trully sorry for you , i knnow how you felt..
