0:50 Fortnight 7:28 TTPD 9:13 change of clothes 15:00 My boy only breaks his favorite toys 18:00- Downbad 23:40 So Long London 30:45 But Daddy I love him 34:53 Fresh out the slammer 37:34 Florida! Okay, I decided to break this up in four chunks to make it easier on my head. Also the mic I tried didn't improve anything, sorry wont use it for part 2 of the anthology. Song 8-16 reaction should ASAP before sunday. Haven't recorded the next part of the anthology yet so tba. These songs all grew on me but my FAVES in this section is TTPD, Downbad, So Long London and Florida! (honorable: But daddy..) Going to do a final ranking in my last video

I think there’s another layer to “my boy only breaks his favorite toys”. I immediately thought about how girls are taught growing up that when boys are mean it’s because they like you, which taken to the extreme it turns into accepting mistreatment in adult relationships as normal. I feel she even comments on the objectification of being treated like a “thing” to be broken and discarded

I think the reason why cussing in Down Bad fits so well is because she talks about teenage petulance and the whole song structure fits that sentiment. So while cussing is some thing you think of someone more grown doing,when you cuss a lot, it comes off as someone immaturely fussing.

Same. I don't why people don't get it especially some swifties. They don't like the songs because of too many curses but it's intentional cuz she's frustrated and feeling so bad that she can't think of a formal response so she just curses it out like some other people when they're frustrated.

Something worth noting about Down Bad is the verses and bridge have a running alien abduction metaphor: “did you beam me up” “for a moment I felt cosmic love” “encounters closer and closer” (like the Spielberg alien movie Close Encounters of the Third Kind), “down bad , waving at the ship” (spaceship), “staring at the sky, come back and pick me up” “they’d call me nuts if I talk about the existence of you” etc etc etc (so many other lines). She compares someone love bombing or at least showing an interest and then leaving you to being abducted by an alien, being taken to another world and then put back on Earth

you can tell that you're much more versed in analysis than I am because it took me a few listens and talking about it with other people to understand that fortnight wasn't actually something that happened. from what I can understand, it's a fictional version of herself that never took the plunge to be with someone she had always wondered about, went into an unsatisfying marriage and is now neighbors (i.e. they're both in the industry probably, just from knowing who these songs are about) with the "other man." I am definitely looking forward to your reaction to the rest of the album's because you'll probably have some insight I couldn't reach

Even 15 days later, I still feel like there's so much to digest and interpret and understand... TTPD was not an album that I loved on the first listen... Differently than Midnights, evermore, and reputation, this was an album where I spent a good thirty minutes going: "What the heck is going on here? What am I listening to? What is she trying to tell?" - However, from the second listen onwards it started growing and I think there hasn't been a day I haven't listened to the full album at least once. I think that the similarities to other songs: mastermind, begin again, bejeweled, mirrorball, call it what you want, death by a thousand cuts, etc. Can be viewed as either juxtaposing what the previous song said, or she's explaining further what she meant in those songs or she's finally getting closure of that longing she sang about. I believe TTPD is the ending of an era (and all of the previous ones too). Going further, we probably won't see glimpses of the "old Taylor". She's moving on (and I am here for it). I also enjoyed the fact that the "muse" of some songs is not easily identifiable. Some songs tell us a story of the two of them at the same time. In "but daddy I love him", I think she's singing about three different people throughout the song - when she says 'even my daddy just loves him', it makes no sense she's talking about the same man she did at the beginning of the song. To be honest, most of the time I do forget the guy between the actor and Travis. I wasn't expecting him to be mentioned at all, and I try my hardest to NOT revolve Taylor's creativity and art around the men in her life, so I focus on the feelings and emotions she conveyed in the songs. At the end of the day both of them have hurt her immensely the only difference being the time they got to do it. My friends and I also thought that the two starting songs "Fortnight" and "TTPD" weren't connected to the remainder of the album. So while conversing the night away we came up with a hypothesis: the album's concept is a poetry book, so the two opening songs are the prologue of the narrative: the love story ending in TTPD and she remembering how it happened in Fortnight. Those two encouraged her to write the 14 other poems to tell us about the fortnight (the period of time) when it unravelled. Then in the Anthology, she brings another fortnight of stories based on her own suspicions and suppositions to themes of her past (including the romantic relationships). Whilst in the first album she tells us what happened on the outside (even though she pretty much shows what she was feeling), the second album shows us what was going on inside her head and heart. That is backed up by TN and TS posts asking us to listen to the 5 stages playlists so we could review/remember the past and when Tay said 'only a fortnight til TTPD' asking us to focus on the present/future. So, I'd advise everyone to listen at least once like this: Fortnight and TTPD. Then My boy only breaks his favorite toys followed by the black dog; down bad and imgonnagetyouback and so on. (Beware though, cause the combo: loml, the prophecy, I can do it with a broken heart and Cassandra is BRUTAL). The Manuscript is the epilogue... wrapping up this poetry book she wrote. Closing the chapter of her life and moving on. TTPD is a DENSE album. You finish it tired. She makes us feel everything she felt during those times. And I think this is what she meant, give us a glimpse of how she felt whilst she was conquering the world, hitting her marks with her broken heart.

Hi! IMO But Daddy I Love Him is for the fans that had the audacity to “pen” an open letter asking her to distance herself from Matty Healy. It’s her life. She clearly wrote that much of her pain has been self inflicted. The album is very vulnerable.
@sml24157
@sml24157 4 ай бұрын
I think it’s more generally about the public’s commentary on her relationships. A lot of people were “concerned” about her dating Travis after he yelled at his coach during a game. There’s definitely parts of the song that relate to Matty Healy but I think a lot of the end relates to her current relationship.

I love your reactions. I hope that, at the end, you will give your perspective of where you think Taylor fits as a poet. Is her poetry good enough to account for some of her success? Or is she successful despite her flaws? I've been seeing the TTPD lyrics as being sorta like a long-form poem or a play with 31 acts. From that perspective, some of the acts seem to wander off - so I understand some people saying that the album could have been more tightly edited - but I wonder if the seemingly unconnected songs might end up contributing to an even larger theme that is, as yet, still lost in the fog of immediacy - perhaps something related to the messiness of a mind that seemingly belonged “in an asylum,” so to speak, but was instead forced to be on parade for the entertainment of the masses. It seems like an overarching theme is that Taylor met someone charming on the outside - a poet/songwriter - who felt like her soulmate but was a horrible human being (the smallest man who ever lived). Those are some deeply sad story dynamics - a tragedy in the most literal sense. But that, as I see it, is sorta what has happened to Taylor. For a while she became delusional and felt like she could fix him. Imagine believing that you, due to your soulmate chemistry and magical powers, could repair a damaged soul - transforming them from a despicable villain into a compassionate, honorable protagonist. You’d be a hero, the world would be a better place for everyone, cosmic love would be yours and you’d live happily ever after. The project spiraled down bad but, out of this tragic turmoil, TTPD was born.

2:13 I have heaps of friends and ex lovers in England. I am here to tell you THEY DRINK! The amount I drank increased by more than double immediately upon hanging with this crowd, but then increased again every six months until I moved away from them… Taylor and I were increasing our drinking at the same time and I wondered if she felt about it like I was feeling about it, and I am pleased to see she was 😂 kicking that habit while training for the ears tour is BAD ASS AF

Fortnight is about the story of Clara Bow. She was a silent film actress that went to an asylum and found out she was schizophrenic and her husband left her. Before all that she became very resentful of living in the public eye. Truly interesting stuff. You’re not there yet but reading up on Clara’s story really makes sense why Taylor totally identifies with her whole heartedly.

But daddy I love him, I think about little mermaid. Ariel was ready to give up her whole life for a man who she hardly knew and couldn't even remember who she was. I told my ex i bet taylor will come out at some point saying she has a problem with alcohol and bam there it comes this album. It was pretty easy dor me to tell cauae every time on tv we would see her with drinks and with like u said in her songs but i think when the ling pond sessions came iut and she spike of an alcoholic and addiction to alcohol in her narrative about "this is me trying" made ne think this was her being real its u unfortunate. But i hope she is better. I think she may have an addictive personality, relationship alcohol and then eating disorder 😢. Btw im a swiftie. Sorry for the loss u spoke about as well 😢 loss is so so hard sorry for any errors. Bad phone and too tired to fix atm
