Had a poetry recitation for my homework which holds like 60-70% of my grade. This helped me know how I should recite on short notice, thanks a lot! :D

The Dying Words of Goethe “Light! more light! the shadows deepen, And my life is ebbing low, Throw the windows widely open: Light! more light! before I go. “Softly let the balmy sunshine Play around my dying bed, E’er the dimly lighted valley I with lonely feet must tread. “Light! more light! for Death is weaving Shadows ‘round my waning sight, And I fain would gaze upon him Through a stream of earthly light.” Not for greater gifts of genius; Not for thoughts more grandly bright, All the dying poet whispers Is a prayer for light, more light. Heeds he not the gathered laurels, Fading slowly from his sight; All the poet’s aspirations Centre in that prayer for light. Gracious Saviour, when life’s day-dreams Melt and vanish from the sight, May our dim and longing vision Then be blessed with light, more light.

The Whispers Of The Wind I enter a deserted field of wild flowers. I don't know where I came from, nor how I got there, But something deep inside was calling to me. I felt the tall grass brush against my leg as I walk further into the meadow. A sudden wind filled with petals leads me deeper and deeper. A flower lands in my hair, as if welcoming me into this strange and fascinating world. A few birds fly above me and land on some trees nearby. They call out like they haven't heard from each other in years. They're songs fill my ears, In perfect harmony with the whispers of the wind. The whispers of the wind sing many songs and tell me many stories about adventure, love, and mystery. But they all lead back here. To this beautiful place To this breathtaking fantasy. I don't know how, I don't know why, But I'm sure, Deep inside, If only for a brief moment, I didn't feel human anymore. I felt like the nature that surrounds me. That we were one. That we were whole. And we shall speak in the whispers of the wind for as long as we live.

Let The Light Enter Poem by Frances E. W. Harper The dying words of Goethe. "Light! more light! the shadows deepen, And my life is ebbing low, Throw the windows widely open: Light! more light! before I go. "Softly let the balmy sunshine Play around my dying bed, E'er the dimly lighted valley I with lonely feet must tread. "Light! more light! for Death is weaving Shadows 'round my waning sight, And I fain would gaze upon him Through a stream of earthly light." Not for greater gifts of genius: Not for thoughts more grandly bright, All the dying poet whispers Is a prayer for light, more light. Heeds he not the gathered laurels, Fading slowly from his sight: All the poet's aspirations Centre in that prayer for light. Gracious Saviour, when life's day-dreams Melt and vanish from the sight, May our dim and longing vision Then be blessed with light, more light.
