It’s a balance. Comfort means we are not in fight or flight mode and have our needs met. That can change in a second. Yes, well, when 2 + 2 = 4, it's not something that's open to much trendy reinterpretation, is it. If it bores people, perhaps they're not ready to face certain fundamental truths, and prefer fairy tales and talk of magic and miracles and imaginary places where 2 + 2 = excitingly purple. (And it WILL equal excitingly purple if only you have faith and send your cash to the address provided.) If two plus two continues to be four, accept it and move on to try and discover what two plus three might be. (Hint: the answer is not setting fire to heretics.) Facts aren't meant to be comforting or satisfying or entertaining. Facts aren't meant to be anything, and they don't care whether or not anyone believes in them. They'll continue to be facts long after we're gone. Sorry if the notion bores you. 🙂

Dawkins, as an autist like myself, is able to find meaning in life the way he describes. What he fails to realise is that this just is not true for most people. Most people need some kind of religion, and he could just conclude "that's not for me", without being so judgmental of the majority of humans who are just wired differently. He is a brilliant man but this is a huge blind spot for him.
@jameswright...

@Earthad23 6 сағат бұрын
@@wjdeoliveira3809 I think what you’re not seeing is that EVERYONE has a belief system, scientific materialism is a belief system, it’s a system that relies on axioms that can’t be explained by the theory itself. Finding meaning in life is not a Newtonian fact about the universe, it’s a Darwinian fact about being itself. The fact that you get up in the morning and do anything at all is predicated on your beliefs and they are not rationally derived facts about the universe.
@hansenbee123
@hansenbee123 6 сағат бұрын
not a blind spot, he 100% knows all there is to know about "faith" or "religions" ..he knows the many reasons WHY people believe instead of focusing on KNOWING, he knows why some cultures are deeper into their religious beliefs than other parts of the world and vice versa....he just does not CARE about myths and stories that have less than 0 evidence ... he trusts in truth and logic and facts. NOTHING more honest than that...and he has for DECADES now, been at the forefront of trying to combat the many ways religions around the world is holding the advancement of knowledge and intellect back in MANY MANY ways ... Look at it like this: if the entire human race and our world was a big train system, full of carts and wagons .. on a railroad track called evolution / advancement.. then the Engine / train itself is science, maths, and all of the big sciences... The 1st, 2nd and 3rd cart is full of people working in fields like medicine, engineering, mechanics, inventers and scholars. the 4th and 5th cart is full of people who keep the wheels turning, road workers, food industry, infrastructure of any kind, teachers, etc etc.. then eventually as you keep going down the train, u arrive at cart nr 12...13..14...15 and all the way to 20...these carts are FULL of religious people, making claims they cannot back up, spreading missinformation, lying to feel better, shaming people who do not believe what they want them to believe, less interested in BEING right, but rather FEELING right... Dawkins is to ME..personally, 1 of few people alive today with an outreach as big as his, that dares to publicly ask the question ( if we pulled the plug connecting the first half of the train system and detatch cart nr 12 - 20 ... do we as human beings even realize how FAST society might actually progress ?? If we emancipated all women around the world, stopped making laws based on idiotic stories written 6-10.000 years ago and collected and rewritten X amount of times to better suit the environment around ..to control people and make them fear what they CANNOT dispute on pain of death ... That to me, is WAY more noble than just saying...OK, let them keep bombing palestine, let muslims keep killing eachother, let christians get back to holy crusades and slaughter millions of innocents like they did 600-700 years ago ... and watch it all burn around us without asking the REALLY important question... IS IT EVEN RELEVANT ? is it even true ? is it even necessary ? ... does that make sense ? does to me.
