I agree that he's not playing conservatively, but compared to other Giros, the first week didn't have any climbs. It's the first time I can remember that the first week of the Giro isn't just flat. I think for the team, it's better to have the jersey and time because either way, they would be responsible for the pace of the peloton. Poga expressed it well in an interview; he has 5 days to rest and get ready for the first TT. It's a great strategy, not as risky compared to other Giros since any Giro that I recall started with stages for climbers.

How many grand tours have you raced? In Pogacar's case, he has competed in 5 grand tours and his lowest finish was third. He has never missed the podium. As for how he is riding today. He had to do it old school on the last climb. When he lost his bike, the power meter went with it. The only reason he didn't take more time is because he was being careful not to use himself up. He never rose out of the saddle after the initial attack. When you race gc, you take time from your rivals when you can. The cat 1 climb at the end of a stage was a perfect spot to steal some time. Normally stage 2 of a grand tour doesn't present that opportunity. This one did. Now he just has to avoid a crash until the next good opportunity to steal more time (which is the time trial).

Thanks for your insights into the race Willie. I always appreciate an insider's thoughts into what is going through the mind of a cyclist in the heat of battle. Good video.

I always enjoy your videos because you've been on the other side of the fence so to speak and can give us couch brigade really nice insight into the pro peleton but please rather call him "the Pog" or something 😄 also no biggie but it's Visma Lease a Bike not Jumbo 😉 Apart from that as mentioned love your video's 🤘 My opinion for what its worth is that the Pog (see what I did there?) intended to lead this Giro from day 1 until the end and he didn't bank on anyone holding his wheel on stage one let alone beating him (Narvaez), he's a very unconventional rider and lets face it with a lot of the big GC contenders crashing out of contention earlier in the season it's his Giro to lose so given that plus this years route being a bit more forgiving he will likely go into the Tour de France with some strong legs and will no doubt have the double in mind.

Thanks for showing the end of the stage and your analysis of the riders. Hope you continue to do it each stage because the Giro isn’t being shown in the USA.

It’s on Max. You can pay $12 or 5 more for no commercials. You can pay month by month and no commitment. So under $20 bucks to watch the entire Giro

Arensman published his power data. Its so easy to say 'he is not at 100%' because he is not up there but then you see that he still did 430 for the last climb (nearly 15 minutes). Reallly puts things into perspective. He is about the same weight als O'Connor who should have done about 440-445 Watts. Crazy!

Language is a communication tool. I speak a couple of them. None of them perfect. If I'd have to criticize every foreigner that can't pronounce my name correctly I'd be a pretty unhappy and unlikeable person. Have a nice day 😉
