Auditorium RAI, Napoli, Italy, April 1994. Technical note for pianists: a note on Limoges (min. 25.47) that he continuously changes fingering on the repetitions in thirds of the left hand. I do not know how many are using this fingering on this piece, but I bet not many. He was very proud in showing me this solution and rightly so. I would too if I could... :)

I heard this piece with Pogo live in Wien. It was one of the best live performance what I heard ever.

I had just about abandoned this piece because it so overplayed and because so many pianists play it pretty much the same way. I came to this page because I am a long-time Pogo fan and I'm very glad that I did. Ivo gives "Pictures" the respect that it deserves, and that makes all the difference. iI have never heard it played with so much insight and an intensity that can almost be called ferocious. It is obvious to me that he must have studied either the actual paintings that were in the exhibition of at least pictures of them. An incredible performance. As usual, Ivo did it HIS way, and I love it.

Heard him play this in Amsterdam, was sitting up close. I thought the piano would break, or the floor collapse. Such shattering power.

42:53 should tell someone that Pogo let each note sustain to its ultimate conclusion, its pause deliberate to highlight distinctions unlike many performances 6 to 8 minutes shorter. Amazing it touches my heart and soul. Where is this awesome sounding piano today?

Obviously this is very much "His Own Version" and despite it being played by a Young Pogorelich Before he went into that strange inexplicable transition, it is Rife with Mistakes, strange rhythms and irregularities, odd chords and added material. Horowitz' live Carnegie Hall version def puts this one TO SHAME!!!!!!

Incredible sound though. Yes, there are "hints" here of things to come. He was an amazing pianist. The best "Scarbo" (Gaspard de la Nuit), for instance, I ever heard. I always wondered what happened to him, his eccentric, incoherent, disjointed, and unrecognizable way of playing, etc? Is it connected to the passing away of his wife, because after she passed away, he stopped playing I think for some time, and when he came back, he was practically another pianist...

@@1fattyfatman I love it when ignorami make total fools of themselves. _To the others:_ For instance, listen to Pogorelich's take, released Feb. 18th 2022, on the Largo of Chopin Sonata 3 Op. 58. He cannot control his body ? Strange how he still has far more control over the piano than other top pianists _without_ arthritis. It figures that invidious calcified egos such as this troll have no clue about genius since that has to do with a certain transparency of the personality to a higher influence. I bet the troll took the idiot jabs, too.

@@TheSoteriologist You are entitled to your opinions of course. As the French say, "des goûts et des couleurs, on ne discute pas." However, you are mistaken when you state that "you have no music in you," as both my parents, as well as step-father, are pretty well known soloists, and I have been exposed to music my entire life on a daily basis, 365 days a year!
