Great ideas and fantastically precise cutting and shaping! I wanted to read through the other replies to see if any others fished out the extra benefit of this jig. The last post I got to hit on it but shadowed over what I thought was a great benefit, intended or not... You're resawing with a thin blade! What a time saver! I first thought of all the time it takes to select, uncoil, and change to a resawing blade not to mention the costs for some to have to either buy different single purpose blades or a whole extra bandsaw to keep set up for resawing to keep efficient on projects. I tend to lean more on the side of the woodworkers having and using extra common sense, safety and otherwise, to understand the heat load having less blade width to dissipate from and the extra wear on the teeth, guides and other. For me, this is a good 'crunch' tool to have to save in the time pinch. Versatility across multiple devices, less tear-down and set up in between on a multi task job leads to a 'saver' every once in a while. Get me some plans out there and I'll open the wallet to make 'em tattered and well loved within a week! Thanks Andrew!

I saw you turn sawdust into smoke with the hole saw. That is one way of getting rid of sawdust, there is another. If you drill a hole that slightly overlaps the hole saw path the sawdust wil collect in that hole. Drill the hole in the part that you discard. You could go with multiple holes.

Interesting Idea. Is there more points of contact than just the bearings? Finger/feather boards usually touch over a length of the wood as 1 points of contact could allow the board to move. Not like you need to build another bearing set like you've made. Just 1 bearing on the bottom with spring tension should be enough
@AndrewKleinWW5 жыл бұрын
just the one point of contact, I find that is enough, you could certainly put two raws of bearings on the jig but I don't really thing its needed. There are other tall feather boards on the market with only one point of contact: www.rockler.com/guidepro-gp5-resaw-featherboard-for-bandsaws?sid=V9146?PL&gclid=Cj0KCQjw-tXlBRDWARIsAGYQAmeAew5SCd6waldfZWHTglqKXfZFqqMAwjA-9_Nnxc0Hdzgbirq-pKUaArQPEALw_wcB

I would suggest, instead of the outside ears for the screws, make some of the metal pins longer so they go into the other part and make a groove for it to travel from one position to the other... and for holding the two parts together you have to make a screw on cap on both sides. Or something similar...
@AndrewKleinWW5 жыл бұрын
Sorry, don’t quite follow
@TheRealFOSFOR5 жыл бұрын
@@AndrewKleinWW Yea, I understand. I was just talking about the magnetic gripper part... So the projections on the sides are for keeping the two halves together and making sure you turn the pieces the right amount (60degrees)? So I was just suggesting getting rid of those "ears" all together and instead: You could make a cap with a larger diameter for the center pin so it holds the pieces together. And to stop the rotation at the right place you could make one or more of the surrounding pins a bit "too" long so it protrude in to the second half, and in to that second half you could then make a groove that accepts this longer pin and allows it to only slide in that 60 degrees arc.
@TheRealFOSFOR5 жыл бұрын
@@AndrewKleinWW Actually. It wouldn't work. Sorry. You would need to put a separate pin somewhere else for the turning topper.
@AndrewKleinWW5 жыл бұрын
yeah, there is some potential for using the center post to keep the two halves together, but I stayed away from that for this design to minimize metal working.

Actually, it looks like it would be pretty handy as a point pressure device when resawing on the table saw as well... locked down to the top just ahead of the blade to keep the work piece to the fence evenly right at that critical interface. Of course, a band saw would be the better choice for resawing, but I'm gonna have to build the bandsaw first budgets being what they are. and by the way, your turbo vise is one sweet unit, hope the sales make it worth the effort ( yeah, you guessed it, I need a proper bench first). Great video and very cool design! Watching the video it looked like you often used the centre of a strip of plywood for something then discarded the ends. Am I just making things harder for myself?
