i love this game so much, no matter what kind of things that the gang did (except for dutch, Micah, Javier, etc) y could tell they were good people inside and the way rockstar portrays that, i love it. This game is a freaking masterpiece!
@JB-xl2jc3 жыл бұрын
@Haywood J One of the reasons I like Dutch as a character (and enjoy hating him so much) is that he's complex, he really DID have a lot of redeeming qualities, especially early on- he really did take a lot of destitute people like orphans under his wing, taught them how to read alongside Hosea, taught them to think analytically and philosophically, etc. He had grand ideas about how the world could have been, and raged against what it was. But as the Old West started drawing to a close and his old way of life started to die out; once the Pinkertons and the consequences for his bad actions started to catch up with him... he became increasingly paranoid, narcissistic, and callous. He became a bad man. I think RDR2 is a game in which Arthur careens towards a moral event horizon and (at least in the high honor playthrough which I personally consider canonical) is saved at the last moment.... by his own imminent death. A few characters (most prominently Charles) state that TB is a blessing in a way. It gave Arthur a chance to take a hard look at what he had done in his entire life, and where he was, and what he'd leave.... it gave him a chance to set SOME things right. That's a chance that, for instance, John never got- his death was swift and sudden (though in hindsight he should've known). Tuberculosis destroyed Arthur's body, but it saved his soul. But Dutch didn't step back from that precipice. RDR2 shows that he continued right past Arthur and dove right over it. Anything good left in him was lost to his insanity. It's just one of the many tragedies of this tale. Revenge, paranoia, greed... almost all of the major characters die to them, except those precious few who leave literally all of it behind and escape entirely from the lifestyle. At its heart, RDR is a funeral dirge for the Old West.

Arthur asked John to go and never look back. John asked Jack to go and never look back. Arthur died on top of a mountain in the sunshine while Dutch died on the bottom of a mountain in a snow storm. What a coincidence... these subtle details is one out of many things that makes Rockstar Games games stand out.

Arthur's death is so emotional not just because he is such a beloved character to all of us, but spending so much time with a protagonist, feeding him, fighting, riding across the world, you can't help but develop a bond to him. Most main characters in a game you are with for an allotted amount of time, but you actually have to take care of Arthur. He will always be, to me at least, the greatest protagonist I ever had the pleasure of playing as.

@@queitn6287 I like thinking that he was a bad person living selfishly until he got diagnosed. Then, with the little time he had left, he decided to change his ways. He finally sees the stag. For all he knows, he lost. John got away, but so did Micah. Dutch left him to die and the rat is still living. In the end, he loses but he doesn’t care because he was able to save John Marston.

@@youraveragemango8671 Arthur never lived selfishly, he always followed Dutch's order and helped the gang wich was his family. He did everything to protect the ones who loved. He was a criminal and did bad things but always with a purpose and not for himself. He sure was a fool to believe in such a plan like the Tahiti's dream, but his heart was in the right place. But he also did many bad things and that's why, in the end, had to redempt himself through death.

People who say that “Arthur didn’t deserve to die” missed the entire point of the game. Arthur was not a good man by any means, he murdered, robbed, and beat innocent people. The whole reason he got TB was because he beat Thomas Downes to death over some debt money. And like Arthur himself said, “you can’t live a bad life and expect good things to happen to you.” Arthur died as a result of his own wrongdoings, and he knew this. So in his final weeks alive, he chose to give others the chance to do the good that he couldn’t.

He won the game of life in my book.
@kimberlyh.109010 ай бұрын
I see it in simpler terms...Arthur needed the gravitas of Death (and knowing he was going to die), to finally see his Life for what it was; a lie. He'd been used his entire life, under pretense of Familial love, with the lives wasted from those who'd died under the same pretense, and that he needed to 'break' from Dutch. It's one of the most tragic things. To give all you had to someone, and be betrayed in the end. And the saddest part is it happens every day in the real world. How many men have put years and decades into a relationship, only to be cast aside. How many people have broken their backs for a job, only to be cast aside because they're no longer useful or the job destroyed them. That's why this is soo relatable to the average person. People give all they had all the time, every day, all over the world....but in the end they're never made whole. They're just figuratively left on top of a mountain to die alone. Arthur was there for everyone, even his horse, but no one was there for him. Part of that is his fault because of the choices he made, and some people couldn't be there because he was trying to save them, but Arthur was alone in all of it.

He didn't just lay there and die, he used the last of what he had to see the sun rise one last time, and all that for just a moment, but as short as it was, it was worth it, because in the end it's the little things that matter, there's nothing bigger than the little things. The second saddest part about this ending for me is the fact you lose your horse... Now, many swap horses as they find stronger and faster ones, but Stripe I kept all the way from the start of Valentine. He was probably the dumbest horse to ever exist, tripping on random rocks and branches in the woods sending me flying, or barreling straight towards oncoming pedestrians. But he was a good horse... He was a fighter. For how scrawny he was he was resilient. I was expecting Arthur's passing, and I was even preparing for it, but not my horse. I wish I would have groomed him, got him a nice saddle, and a decent bedroll one last time before that mission. Rest in peace Stripe, you were an idiot, but you are probably the most toughest idiot I've ever met.

Even though Arthur died, he definitely won the fight in emotions. He died knowing he redeemed himself by(depending on the players choice) giving money to Mrs. Londonderry and helping John escape alive with his family. While Micah left on his own, and losing affiliation with Dutch, until he lured him with money.

Closest you can get is the high honor go back option where you slash his eye out. I don't see why Arthur would go back though, especially a high honor Arthur who's literally telling John that money doesn't matter and revenge is a fool's game lol. Although it'd be pretty badass if high honor "go back" Arthur said something like: "Forget the money, John.... Revenge is a fool's game, and I'm feeling mighty foolish right now.... go, get to your family. I'll take care of them."

Sadie was Arthur’s Bonnie McFarlane, carried out till the end. Love the role they both play in both our favorite gunslinger’s stories. Nothing like a tough blonde heroine to have our backs until fate catches up with us.

Putting myself self in Arthur’s boots it must of been painfull for the last chapter of the game constantly fighting while having TB most people would be in bed crying but Arthur is just a legend shows how much he cares about others and how he has made the change from a bad man to a good man and I’m result made him so his life more clearly then ever before and he realised the fact Dutch is not who he thinks he was and he had to come to terms with that. And it’s so sad to see him release most of his life has been wasted, on hurting others and that deep down he really does care about others as shown as he helps people all throughout the game, and especially near the end when he was coming to terms that he was gonna die, you could clearly see his main priority was to help others. Also Arthur’s knows he can’t ask for forgiveness for his sins as shown when he gave money to mrs Downes and stopped her son from being bullied and potentially killed, you can see he knows he ruined there lives because he killed mr Downes and he knows he got what he deserved which is the TB he got. So he doesn’t ask for forgiveness because he can not forgive himself, so at the end of his life he try’s spreading good bye letting the Marstons have another chance and letting the innocents of the gang run off and ultimately facing the evil in this world which is represented by Micah. Arthur knows he can not forgive himself so he aims as his last mission to stop Dutch and Micah. As he lays on the ground victorious he leans over to face the sunrise one more time and he remembers all the good times he had and all the friends he lost along the way and at his last breath he knows he has done all he could at his last moments of life. :Rockstar this is Art. RIP Arthur Morgan 1863-1899

It's so poetic...how the Marston family were the ones who killed the antagonists. Abigail killed Milton, John killed Micah, and Jack killed Ross. This mission may not be as grand as RDR1's redemption ending, but Arthur's road to redemption was truly well written as well. I will not forget the first time, went down for the money hoping to help John and family...and I was high honor thankfully. Arthur is completely a bad guy, but his tale of redemption shouldn't be taken for granted. People started benefiting from such redemption, even if the law says he's not worthy of such goodwill. John crying out "you left me" is much more powerful with the first game's context, as well as the fact that Javier never pointed his gun at John and Arthur.

34:50 I think one of the more underrated devastating moments. In his dying breaths, arthur warns Dutch about Micah. Even til the very end, Arthur was loyal. He has quite literally nothing to lose, and would gain nothing by lying, and Dutch understands this. Arthur is a representation of everything Dutch claimed to value, and he's watching it all die alongside his only friend left in the world. And its his fault. You can see it in his eyes, and for the first time, he's speechless

Something I wish Rockstar did was having John have his own hair customization at the end of the game instead of just reusing the same styles as Arthur but Black. I like how his hair is throughout the game except when they reused Arthur's in the epilogue.
