I love the symbolism in this mission. This whole battle represents the past vs. the future. When Arthur says “this fight is un-winnable” he is implying how the past’s unable to fight the future. Arthur’s statement also accentuates Dutch’s greatest rival - time. Dutch is an old soul fighting to prevent the upcoming “Exodus in America” (The name of the first rdr1 mission). The main reason Dutch goes so crazy (aside from the death of numerous gang members, the law constantly following his gang, and his head injury) is because deep down he knows that this fight is un-winnable but he won’t admit it (That’s the paradox he talks about before he commits suicide). Moreover, the rest of the gang members know the battle is un-winnable because (even if they kill everyone) more will come. I love the theme of how time is inevitable and that no one can escape it. It’s one of the chief themes in both Red Dead games and it’s arguably the main theme of this mission.

I think the father of the young native guy used the wrong persuasion tactic. He used words that fueled the anger of the young native even more. One of the many things i love about this mission, is the parallel in the native's/gang's struggle. Where once the cowboys, outlaws and natives squared off, are now being run out of their existence from civilisation. Eagle Flies like Dutch naively believes they can fight against the unstoppable force, that their way of life must prevail, whilst Rains Fall knows that their fight is already lost, and to save the little they have left. The same thing Arthur comes to realise throughout the game. Loved this section of the game.

@@BKAngmarNo. It’s easy to make a hate-able character. It doesn’t have to equal good writing. It’s easy to hate Micah, he’s racist, a rat, a coward, a possible rapist, and repulsive. Does that make him a good character? Not so much. Imagine a story about, I don’t know, let’s say pirates. Their main objective is to scathe islands for riches and other items. One of these pirates is a guy named Bob. When the pirates reach an island, Bob steals valuables for himself, rapes and kills inhabitants on the island, is constantly racist to one of the other crew mates, a black guy named Jimmy, and works with another crew of pirates to feed them information about the crew he’s currently on. Now, is Bob a good character because he’s a slimy sack of shit that’s cartoonishly evil? No. He has no layers or depths to his character. He’s made to be straight up evil, and no further expectations beyond that. That’s how I feel about Micah. A lame character with such outlandishly evil traits I couldn’t even bother to hate him by the end because I knew every time he was around something bad was gonna happen.
@sftheletters5 ай бұрын
@@muscularcheeseburger8100 I’d argue that Micah isn’t even the real villain of the game. He’s part of the plot to unravel the gang sure but they were doomed with or without Micah. The real testament to the writing is the battle between the idealism of untamed, free society vs the impending cold industrialism that faces the gang. Dutch was going to go mad no matter what with this impending reality crashing his idea what is “right”z Micah being in his ear only accelerated it. The real villain is the morality play of blindly following an idea or world that you’ve built to believe is true your whole life vs what is really in front of you. I would also argue that Micah being inherently evil with no redeemable qualities made it more frustrating and made me hate him even more. I wanted so badly to sympathize with at least some aspect of his story but him being cartoonishly evil seemed fitting. It was as if Rockstar was just trying to say “oh you think there’s good in everyone? Well there isn’t. Micah is just plain bad” lol

19:58 one of the best despite the sadness of the scene, Arthur is eventually almost aware of what Dutch truly is, now he know fully who himself is too, and what he wants to do along with who he loves too, now he is more free than in the first chapter, ironically 48h separate from his unevitable deat provoked by his infinite good will and servance with others more than to himself. The writters of the game are trying to express to not waste your life with others people visions of life but with those who its worth it as John, but even that the writters killed John and nothing is in the end happy in any of the two games, is sad as life, thats why Arthur and John, and the whole gang and all the characters are so real, they exist in a world identical of what could happen to them if they were real. Masterpiece Pd: nothing is fair in the game, there is only death. Very sad what the world is built up, upon violence and war.

This is honestly is one of the best missions in the game, not only because of the story, but also because of it basis in real history. While the Wapiti are fictional, but their struggle is very much real. Eagle Flies very much seems to draw inspiration from Sitting Bull, Red Cloud and Crazy Horse (especially since the Wapiti seem to be Lakotan) While I'm not Native American, its great to see Rockstar shine a huge spotlight on a part of history that is often not treated with the weight it deserves. American West has always interested me and was one the modules I did as part of my history education, and Native Americans were a massive part of that module. I really hope that one day I can travel and learn more about it

The music, the characters, the environment, the voice, the gun everything is just perfect also the gameplay isn't looking like playing game it is precisely played to make it seem like movie.

0:25 in the back ground, you can see charles sadie and john backing up arthur as they were about to start an argument. plus if it werent for eagle flies, the gang wouldve been split up this way

The fact Dutch was completely willing to let go of Arthur in this mission is sad

I've replayed this game a bunch and it still kills me to see Arthur die,but redeem himself from everything the gang did throughout the whole game, coming to terms with mortality and choosing to see if he lives long enough to die a villain or die a hero, hence Arthur's "Red Dead Redemption".

god the starting scene between rains fall and his father is just so well done, the desperation in him to save what little left remains of his family and tribe only to get pushed aside by the only family he has left is just heartbreaking

Dutch is manipulated so easy, and quick to betray long time friends. I think Arthur's father Lyle died because of Dutch. One of the first missions in horseshoe Hosea and Dutch bicker about right and wrong, Hosea looks down; possibly guilty of being a part of Lyle's death but having regret, Dutch just acts like nothing.

That doesn't make sense because they found Arthur when he was 15 years old and his father died when he was really young

Arthur says "My father, I watched him die, and it weren't soon enough" indicating they had a shitty relationship, Arthur probably killed him himself
@achillerea55773 жыл бұрын
Because being someone who should have died sooner is how Arthur feels about himself too. He doesn’t feel he’s any better than Lyle, so he keeps his hat, and photo, to remind himself “see? This is who you are, what you are. A no good criminal.”

No, Arthur's father was an alcoholic. Dutch eventually took Arthur under his wing, so he saw him as a replacement father figure.
