The tutorial comment in ch2 confused me because it first of all seems that he didn't pay attention to the act, spare and pacify mechanics in ch1, which is why the introduction to the "new" things that have actually been in the first chapter overwhelms him. And second of all, the tutorial stuff (like the dojo and all) are completely voluntary. He chose to do all the challenges and talk to everyone.

I find Eric's take on this game to be... Interesting... I don't think he actually learnt the sparing mechanics of the game in first chapter, but it's also worth considering that everyone else had 3 years to understand it. Also Deltarune as a concept existed well before Undertale if I recall too... Eric has a valid point of view but I struggle to align myself with it. I enjoyed pretty much everything about chapter 2 - from the updated UI and getting to better know Beardly and Noelle.

I think the reason toby made chapter two so full of information at the start, was to try to try to push the "your choices dont matter" aspect by being really hand holdy, considering how meta the game already is, with all the wierd stuff (specifically the bizarre save file screen where someone (gaster?) Is talking to you when you manipulate files. These games have so much thought and time put into them, and while they are definitely not flawless, I'm inclined to believe almost every part of the game serves a narrative purpose, since undertale was never about the gameplay. It was about the story and characters.

:/ i really dislike the take that deltarune is "handholdy" when nearly every tutorial is optional. calling it handholdy implies that the optional tutorials shouldnt be there and some people need the extra help to figure stuff out. it feels like complaining that an easy mode for a game exists. also, i dont know who told him that chapter 1 was a tutorial but i feel like that really messed up the way he's thinking about it. its a demo, for those who dont know, as is chapter 2. the immediate transition from 1 to 2 is definitely awkward but it'll hopefully be smoothed out once the game is fully released.
@jairdinh75632 жыл бұрын
I think it is true the game is handholdy even if it is optional doesn't mean it is not handholdy. The game does have a tell instead of show when teaching its mechanics. Personally I didn't see a problem with this mainly because the tutorials were enjoyable but I can see why other people would be a bit mad.
@chromaticroses2 жыл бұрын
@@jairdinh7563 why would someone care if the game is holding the hand of someone who's not them? if you choose to do the tutorials you are choosing to have your hand held. if you dont want that, dont do the tutorials. people who want their hand held can have them, you can figure it out on your own. pretty simple stuff.

I know he is allowed to play the game however he likes but seeing him always attack in chapter one hurt me. There is so much charm and character in the act actions. Undertale and Deltarune just make me feel happy, and not many other things make me feel that way.

Yes. I think it's a misunderstanding of the game. Attack people and hurt them is the easy way. You just have to press a button. To befriend them, it is way harder. You have to understand what they feel, and when they hurt you it makes you even more damage because of how much you share their problems. But in the first case you'll only feel remorses. You won't have fun by doing that. However, in the other case, you can laugh to their jokes, and see them finally happy, thanks to you.

Same here.. it hurts me every time he tries to kill each foe he comes across in this game as well... But it's his playthrough, I have no say in the matter of how he should play it. He's lucky that in Deltarune that his choices "don't matter". He'd be screwed to a bad ending if they did in a game like this. In chapter 1, I think he only used ACT when FIGHTing won't "solve" a battle. Like that battle with the crowned checker piece enemy that uses the Mario "Power-up" and "Power-down" sound effects, that Susie wanted to bust her way through the fight, but FIGHTing only made things worse. I'm curious when he will upload a stream continuing Deltarune. I dunno if he has already done the rest and it's not uploaded to KZbin yet, or he hasn't played any further so far

That being said, a lot of the ACTs in Deltarune are not only more creative than Undertale but feel smoother to play and when I couldn't fight them to pacify ACTing was very fun :)

his take on deltarune had some good points, but i think chat was making some pretty fair points, too. mainly that the game is unfinished, so mechanics that seem confusing now will probably become clearer later (like the whole recruitment thing). i think there's supposed to be 7 chapters total also this game REALLY requires full attention, and also depends on how the player plays. i went ahead and spared from the get-go, so it took me one or two battles to get the hang of it. since he fought through most of chapter 1, it makes sense that he's confused about the sparing mechanics being "introduced" so late. kinda like undertale, you do need to do a lot of self-discovery here. but it also isn't a game for everybody, so it's totally alright if he ends up not enjoying it! just wanted to give my two cents haha

Hey PointCrow, have you heard of the game "Journey"? It's an indie game made by Thatgamecompany and Santa Monica, released in 2012, and it's BEAUTIFUL. It's not a long game, but I think you might like it. I know it doesn't have anything to do with Deltarune other than being another indie game, but it just came to mind. Also, have you ever played Limbo? I actually ended up getting to play that one for my Danish exam, because I had to talk about a Danish "dogmefilm" media, which Limbo just happened to be in the category of! I had already watched PewDiePie play it once, but when I had to play it myself, I forgot everything from the let's play and had to figure everything out myself, and it was awesome. Just... it would be awesome to see you stream Limbo or Journey, regardless if you've played them before or not.
