I feel like this is how ballet, and most "highly elite" arts are truly meant to be- not chaotic or goofy exactly, but accessible! This made ballet understandable, and interesting, and fun which is a lot more than I can say about most ballet clips I've seen. There's been performances I've seen in-person that are serious or dramatic and were just as entertaining, but the vast majority of ballet I've witnessed is just "stale" compared to this. Absolutely loved it, and you're exactly right- "what personalities", and that's what makes it compelling to watch!

I had tons of wardrobe malfunctions over the years, but I still have nightmares about my biggest wardrobe malfunction. Senior year of college, and I was taking a jazz class for an elective. In the middle of the final performance, my left boob popped right out of my leotard. Not even a little bit, I mean FULLY out. The only thing that saved me was that the costume had a little sweater/shrug that went on top of the leo.

And the way you know this was given as much love and work as any other dance is seen in the ending. They didn't just end up jumping up and down to end the dance. They did have their moment of chaos, you know it wasn't choreographed, but they account for that and have a a way back in to make the entire end sequence thematically appropriate
@laurenwisdom12 жыл бұрын
Actually, most of it was choreographed. However, as you mentioned, I did give them a couple of 8 counts to improvise any kind of outlandish dancing they wanted but spacing and timing were set.

@laurenwisdom12 жыл бұрын
Hello! I am the choreographer. Actually, the girl dancing with the leg warmer was not injured, I would not have allowed her to dance injured. The girl who threw her pointe shoe in the wing was recovering from an injury. She was cleared by her doctor to dance on flat but was not given the go ahead to dance on pointe. What you don't see is the girl who threw her pointe shoe into the wing actually had her ribbons coming untied from the beginning.
