3:12 not a dance therapist but I asked a physiotherapist bc my joints are nuts. When you hear joints cracking it's just an air bubble in the fluid that pops (literal joint farts) and they're mostly not dangerous. They are more common in people that move a lot or in joints that we move a lot, like fingers or ankles, because the fluid develops more microbubbles that could pop. That being said, if you manipulate a joint too much, like strongly pulling on your finger to make it crack, then it could hurt you. Another thing is when joints crack over and over and don't stop making sounds, it could be just an anatomical anomaly that doesn't create problems or it could be a piece of broken cartilage floating around and making the sound and it can hurt. Generally speaking always go with the rule: if it bothers you, it came out of nowhere, or changed from normal, ask a doctor.
@Lythea29 күн бұрын
Do you also have the thing where literally every single joint in your body cracks?? Some more often than others (my left shoulder will pop every time I move it a certain way) but I don't think there's a single joint that hasn't at some point.
@mv_0329 күн бұрын
@@Lythea pretty much, yes. I could just take a step forward and my hip would crack because my joints are quite loose. Also different parts of my body make different sounds and not all pops are pleasant, the same goes with certain movements or positions. In my case it's some slightly weird anatomy and genetics but I don't really mind it as it doesn't give me problems, just some fun party tricks, yet I still got it checked out just in case.
@SobrietyandSolace29 күн бұрын
Sometimes cracks are subluxations occurring or reducing though, particularly if you’re hypermobile
@g5rearea28 күн бұрын
@@Lythea I get that. I'm double-jointed, so pretty much every time I stretch it's like twisting bubble wrap. My husband is a little jealous every time I crack my knuckles cuz he has exactly one that will pop. I've asked more than one doc and none of them were worried about it unless I feel pain. So far so good (knock on wood).

I grew to be 6ft tall and my hips just wouldn't turn out. I began having pain in my right hip and a loud click in that hip. I only found out recently I had torn the tissue that stabilizes the hip into the pelvis. It healed on its own over the years but I now have hip pain caused by the scar tissue and bone spurs that formed around the pelvic opening. What I wouldn't give to have been able to dance like these truly talented people.

Dance physio here - cracking is not bad, it in fact doesn't really do much at all other than provide temporary relief. Bodies clicking/cracking joints is fine unless it causes pain. There is evidence to say that cracking your neck could be risky and lead to cervical arterial direction which can be fatal. I would recommend talking with a doctor or physio face to face to manage neck pain.

The dancer you were remarking on later in the video, Maya, is just incredibly talented. Eva will sometimes show her a video of a variation, and Maya will just memorize it, then dance it flawlessly on the first try. It's no wonder she was tapped to dance with the Royal Swedish. I've seen several of MBA’s students get invited to go and dance or study with troupes and schools overseas. Have you seen Leo? He can dance rings around the other guys at MBA. He's the one with curly hair. Like several others of their best dancers (Maya,Tessa, Melanie and Amber) he also has his own channel on KZbin. It's fun to follow individual students as well as Eva's and MBA's channels. That way, one can be provided with endless amazement every day! I think the reason that there are so many really good students at MBA is that their teachers are really inspiring, but really warm and funny people too, and they motivate by inspiration and encouragement rather than by bullying their students into rigid, exacting form. You can tell that the students are just really having a blast a great deal of the time, and yet they seem to go above and beyond what I've seen accomplished in other schools. I hope that the public exposure surrounding the school might actually encourage change in the way ballet is taught, after it has been for so many decades a dance form that was long on discipline and short on enjoyment and compassion. Their teachers prove that you can be a good teacher, and yet caring toward your students, and having a lot of fun with them at the same time. 💖 I've been following Eva for a couple of years now, and she just amazes me with her perseverance and her progress (she does a lot of Pilates with machines also, and I think that's really helped her with her form, pushing her flexibility and strength). I'm so impressed with how far she's come: when I saw videos of her first efforts, I just kind of cringed, but at the same time I have been pulling for her to grow as a dancer all the while, too. She is dancing the role of first mom in NBA's Nutcracker this year. It's not a really strenuous role, but like any role in a ballet it's still exacting. (Last year she danced as one of the mice, and she cracked me up with her joking with the students about how the inside of the costume smelled like butt! 🤣) I am just so impressed that she has come this far, since she was 27 years old, I believe, when she first started studying ballet (she had taken some other dance classes before). I think that her ability to laugh at her mistakes and go on and try again is how she has come this far. Go Eva!
