I’m a guy who took ballet including pointe from age 27-37, with a few breaks here and there. I basically started in order to try and eventually do pointe, and I did make it to intermediate pointe at my peak. Finding and fitting shoes for my size 12 feet was extremely tough, but it’s getting easier, fortunately. As another commenter mentioned, I also was flat out refused for pointe by one teacher, when I was already taking it elsewhere and certainly “ready” for it. I got a great fitting for some pointe shoes to correct some issues, and I fizzled out of ballet before they ever got used. That was getting close to 3 years ago now, and I’m 39. But coming across this video has reminded me that pointe for men is becoming more common, and I just dug out those shoes. I’m telling myself right now that I need to get back in, asap, if for nothing else than to honor these shoes. I’m not sure how I, as a grown man ever decided I was going to do pointe, but I’m glad I did and I’m glad I still want to and feel like I can. It’s going to take some serious work and progress before I’m even ready to go up, but I think I might have it in me for another try.

@@Mariana-lu8nb this is really late so you're probably already en pointe and have better arches, however I used to be very flat footed and now I have a decent arch. I did basic theraband exercises. my teacher also had me standing up with my feet in second and I would have to sort of scrunch up my foot, but I would have to keep all of my toes and my heel on the ground at the same time and I would do about 50 on each foot and that really helped me develop my arches

I've been corresponding with them with work I'm doing on my MFA and the shoes seem like they're well-suited to the demands of men's feet -- and they have a wide size range!

Depends on everything else. But generally speaking, a more tapered shoe. That's not always how we fit them though.

If my first 3 toes are about the same length and the other 2 are tapered down what kind of foot shape do I have and what kind of box do you think would be best for me?

Depends on a lot of other things (length of toes, flexibility, strength etc) But generally you're pretty lucky! You can wear a square box :)

My second toe is very slightly longer, and I know what my fitter did was to give me a big toe pad so I would have 2 toes of almost equal length. Can I know what you feel about doing this instead of padding the 2nd toe?

I get why you dont mention brands, but im very curious as a non ballet person who has larger feet (it was quite difficult finding size 10 in the 90s for myself and even harder to find 11/12s for my sister!) how large ballet shoes go since they are designed for mostly petite women.

I really wish I was never discouraged from doing ballet as a child. Wearing a womans size 9 at eight, I was told to give up, they don't make pointe shoes in your size. Now there's men on pointe! I'm sure a womans 11/12 is not the biggest out there. Too late now.🤷‍♀️

@Tara N thats an internal requirement for from your school, not a general rule, and is more aimed towards the fact that most men start ballet when they around 14, not has toddlers like girls, so is understandable but not a fact.

Maggie Warren You need a lot of training. When I got fitted, I was only dancing for about 9 months. But I also trained daily for three hours. You just need to go to class weekly, and do 30 minute foot exercises daily. You should be en pointe in no time!

In general yes, but individually that can vary a lot from one person to another also trainning changes the body and poinye requires extensive trainning, happens all the time tenis players have an slighly longer arm than the other etc etc
