I noticed in Part 1 the trainer had the pigeon bag with her and in session 2 she did not. I think the dog in session 1 was distracted and more interested in the trainer than in hunting partly because she had the pigeon bag with her. In session 2 she isn't carrying the pigeon bag and the dog wasn't distracted at all and performed wonderfully. Who can say if that was the reason. There are so many variables from the dogs excitement and energy level on any given day to the weather or wind that day. But, it is worth mentioning.

I am a novice hunter and have a two year old English setter who has had quite low experience in hunting due to us not living nowhere near to the fields (we don't have any field birds here anyway). There is lots of forest though. She hasn't "lightened up" yet for the hunting, but this year I would really like to catch up on her training. Any advices? Should I just head out to the forest and search for birds at random? There is a guy some 50 km from us who keeps pidgeons but his prices are way too high for us. Would love to hear any advices! Oh yeah we're from Eastern Finland and love your content, very inspiring and down to earth style!

Medardo Cuevas Thanks for the question! If you are in an area where snake encounters are possible, there are snake avoidance classes. Also you can get a vaccination that can help buy you more time if your pup were to get bit! Hope this helps!

At what age would you be worried if the puppy isn’t pointing? My puppy has only pointed once and the point was not stylish at all. Do you typically see that change as the puppy gets more exposure ?

Why do you make her chase the bird after you flushed it. Isn’t that counterproductive? You do want her to learn to be steady on the flush, don’t you? My GSP is pointing nicely but especially on hares he is not steady to the flush. As soon as the rabbit starts to run, my dog chases it so it is impossible to shoot.
