I ate an ice cream bar the other day that was 140 calories but 16 points. 😮 this is a great video. I lost 40 lbs on WW and kept it off. But now I want to loose another 10 lbs because I had lost weight when I got sick in 2020/2021 and it was a great weight for me also.

I too have been double tracking lately for the same reasons you, and others I watch, have outlined. I was shocked to see how under-calorie I was eating staying within the personal points plan. Under the freestyle and blue I was phenomenally successful. This past year has been a monumental struggle and I have gained weight. I have come to realize that this new personal point plan has thrown me into starvation mode. I am doubling down on counting calories to see if I can get myself back on track. Thank you for sharing this Joan. Nice to know I'm not crazy and not the only one having issues with PP.

I agree with you on points vs calories. The best decision I made for my health was switching from WW to Healthi. I love the app!! It gives me bites, calories & macros. I put my entire meal in the recipe builder and it gives me my calories and macros!! I'm definitely using all of my points including weekly and some activity. I'm agree that the processed foods maybe lower in pts but don't give me the nutrition I need in a whole food. Thank you for sharing. I enjoy your vlogs so much ❤️

Hi Joan, its Pamski, long time no see. OMG I loved loved, loved, your video. I have been with Health (Itrackbites) for ever and I'm so glad you came around. I have to say though I haven't been working the program until recently but I'm back, and you are sooooo right about calories verus points, like tonight I am 4 points over but I am over 500 calories short of my 1420 calories a day. So I actually watch both and it seems like a joke to watch points but I can't get away from the points it gives me a guide. But great to see ya again and will keep watching.

I agree I need to count something Points work for me since I joined at the end of Feb. So it is what is helping me & I don’t see Changing. I never had luck counting calories. I like to track on the WW app. I have saved meals & foods. I think everyone needs to do what works for them. One thing Joan if you ever go to only calorie will you mention points in your recipes? I count on your meal plans & recipes so,don’t stop giving points. Thanks my friend

I was a WW member for decades--both in person and digitally. Eventually I turned to iTrackBites (now changed to Healthi)--which is much cheaper than WW for the pro version, but still has most of the same functions as the digital version--food scanner, recipe builder, community, all the normal tracking stuff. What I love about it is that for $60 a year, whenever I enter a food, it automatically tracks points, calories and macros---so convenient. A look at my scanner shows me everything at once. To tell you the truth, I'm really relying more on calories these days than points. And, of course, if I tried to "game the system" I would be working against my own best interest--which is to be the healthiest version of myself that I can be.
@RiseandShineSuburbanHomestead2 жыл бұрын
That is awesome! If I didn't get the WW app for free, I would definitely get the pro Healthi app. I may still get it since it tracks everything at once!

I watched your video again while doing my 30 minute walk. I woke up hungry today and ate breakfast about 5:30. I double track it in WW app and MFP app. 9 of 19 daily points. 357 calories. Not much left for lunch dinner and snacks for the day but knowing that going in I can make it work. I think calories are spot on for breakfast. I am going to eat the healthiest version of meals I possibly can and just see where they fall calorie-wise for 2 weeks and determine if I’m eating enough of the right foods. I need to find a nutritionist.

I've had Healthi calorie/bites, premium. It's about 35$/yr. There is a recipe builder that gives you the calories. It took me some time but I put all my recipes in and a lot of yours, Kim's and Roys. Since we moved there are no mtgs around here. Since I need a new knee exercise is gone by the wayside. Struggle bus goes on!! Camp closes this weekend (where I eat), then I'm doing a 1000 cal cleanse for a WK. Then back to 85/15-90/10 basic real food! I feel better. We even get our ice cream from a farm across the street, they make it from their own milk. For a chia latte I go to Starbucks (I'm worth it and it's once a mth) and I get a chai made with a tea bag, vanilla sugar free (I know additives) with 1/2 and 1/2. LOVE IT!! I like calories cuz I eat a lot of fruit and veggies (not a meat eater) and it's a lot of calories in grapes, bananas etc. My points were always high and low in cal and I felt sluggish. So for me I look at cal and macros.
@RiseandShineSuburbanHomestead2 жыл бұрын
That's awesome. I would be in trouble with that ice cream - lol. We go to a local place about once a month that uses all fresh ingredients - real cream and sugar. I get an extra small and savor every bite!! I hope you can get your knee done soon!

Completely agree. When WW launched Freestyle, my weight stalled for 10 months, so I tried LoseIt! (calorie/macro counting) and it got me over the hump. Shortly after, I hit goal. A year or so later, I gained 15(ish) pounds and it's been a beast to lose! Since I have kept my LoseIt! subscription, I went back to using it and am down 10(ish). In an effort to eat a more whole foods, I've been looking into the Mediterranean Diet and, at this point, I'm also trying to watch my carbs (nothing crazy). 🤷🏼♀ Before I let my WW subscription expire, I was double-tracking (with LoseIt!) and I would run out of Points way before I ran out of calories for the day, so I'm right there with ya on that. Sorry for babbling. 😬

I've been using the basic (not paid) version of the Fat Secret app on and off for years. I have been considering switching to WW because of the simplicity of points. But I can't wrap my head around that and calories counting. I don't think it (WW) would work for me because I'm not even 5' and as you said, calories matter. Especially for someone my size. I admire you for eating all Whole Foods especially (won’t let me not capitalize!!!!!)making your own pasta and bread. I think the people who struggle with their weight loss are actually eating WAY too little. And your comparison 1200 calories/34 points! That is NOT a lot of food! You have to stoke the fire to lose. I agree with all you are saying. I have been wanting to love WW, but I'm not. And for me it is all about fats. I need more fats than I feel like WW allows, and food with fat in them are 'penalized'. You did raise an interesting point though about the weeklies and exercise points. Over the years I've certainly felt like it was 'good' to not eat those extra points, but in reality it IS part of the plan. It's a mindset. I feel like I'm failing when I use the exercise points. So that is something I am going to look at. I did recently rejoin WW (after 9 months off) and was frustrated in the first week. But I think I will try it again with using all the points and not just the base points.

I gained all my weight during menopause and I mean like only 25 pounds and was/am athletic. WW has been difficult because I find so many WW people using recipe convenience foods and foods with chemicals and fake sugars. I have been eating mainly organic and minimal white flour and sugar since the 70’s and am very healthy at 73. I am on no meds but still about 10-15 pounds above a goal. I am also do not buy junk food often at all and eat a basic whole food way. I was glad to see when you began your more healthy food journey because it gave me hope and ideas. I just recently got my fitness pal and have a local fitness and nutritional coach who is planning my macros because I am a carb lover and lean toward vegetarian eating and need a bit more balance with protein most days. Hi Joan. Just started watching your channel. I can't fit 13 years of my journey into this small spot but here goes.... I'm almost 70 I joined WW when I was 16.. yo-yo dieted my whole life would lose 50 gain 80 would lose 80 gain 100. Bottom line 2009 rejoined started looking at it as a way of life instead of a diet (I would leave the program as soon as I lost the weight) and I have kept off 115 lb 12 years. I lost all my weight on the points system where I counted calories fiber and fat and that is what worked for me and yes calories and points are basically the same they give higher point value to higher calorie foods. I never changed with the program changes... I always stuck to what I was on in 2010 and I used to be a trackaholic. Tracked Faithfully every bite every single day it helped me. Exercise on my mini trampoline 10,000 steps got toned while I lost all that weight. 2018 I got shook up because my beloved soulmate husband passed then covid hit we were in the middle of moving to our Dream retirement home in another state and truthfully if I didn't have the program I would have fallen apart but it kept me grounded and so did my group and my ww family and I got everything done moved to our dream home and I did put on 10 lbs during covid which right now I'm trying to shake because I started eating a little bit differently but for me going back to basics is the original plan and I will always stick with it I always eat kind of the same Foods the things that get to me is when I am not mindful and snack on trigger foods I shouldn't!!! So I always try to go back to basics I am still not over my goal and in 12 years once I reached goal I never went over because I had gone under go, so thankfully I'm mindful enough. But I just wanted you to know my story and that I stuck with the regular point system that was in effect in 2009 of counting calories fiber and fat. I lost all my weight eating high fiber opposed to protein and I always watch my sodium and my sugar. And one other thing I have become a vegetarian since 2009 and using mostly beans as my protein. I do use milk eggs and occasionally fish. Anyway that's my story Joan. Thank you for listening and like everything we do we take it one day at a time and whatever works for us is good.💗💗💗

I'm glad I found your video. I specifically was looking for someone discussing the difference between WW and MyFitnessPal. I'm having this issue with WW. I'm struggling to get in enough calories each day and you know that's not good for healthy weightloss. I can spend a lot of points on foods but I'm still struggling with my calories and I'm not okay with that. I just signed up for MyFitnessPal. I need 1848 calories to maintain at 190lbs on my 5'8 female body. I'm switching from WW. I need the freedom to have a meal that may be calorie dense to ensure I am eating enough food. Thanks to WW, I no longer just eat bunch of bad foods. I'm grateful for the LIFE-LONG change. But I need to be able to eat enough calories in each day and I need freedom to do that. WW is just not helping in that area. But I'm soooo grateful for how it has helped me.

Changing to whole foods what’s the biggest issue I had with WW. I had success with the program but when I tried to switch to healther options it was to frustrating. I could have tub of fat free whatever but if I had a handful of nuts I was done for the day. Knowledge is power and counting for yourself is enlightening. At least for me.

Thank you. Thank you. Finally found someone who thinks like me. Lost weight on WW a few years ago, so not bashing it by any means, but I had the same difficulty as you when i decided to eat more whole foods and little to no processed foods. I now us my fitness pal and count calories and macros. Found out i was not eating enough calories and protein. Looking forward to watching your videos since you eat whole foods too

I am expecting a tweak in November and then a HUGE change next year. I may be wrong, but I have never heard so much dislike of a plan like this one!

WW has a new CEO and I’m sure she’ll want to change things up since they’ve been losing membership. WW is antiquated in their way of calculating points as many of us are discovering. The company tried appealing to younger people but that didn’t work for the rest of us! It should not be a one plan fits all approach in my opinion.

I just stumbled into your video and you are so spot on! I’ve maintained status as a free Lifetime WW for the past four years after losing forty pounds (been a weight watcher for 40 some years). Anyway, my goal weight is actually 10-12 pounds above where I want it to be, and it seems you and I are in the same boat. Anyway, I resolved to take off these last 10 or so pounds this year, and I have been struggling big time with personal points. So far I have lost 6 since the beginning of the year. NOT good enough. And, I want to eat the healthy Whole Foods and NOT the empty calorie foods. So, I’ve been double tracking these last two weeks using WW and Healthi apps.The Healthi app gives me 1440 calories per day. My WW zero point foods are poultry, eggs and beans. Here’s what I’ve learned. Every day so far I have hit my calories, yet have only used 10 or so points. What???? Now on WW I would have gone ahead to hit my 23 points daily which would mean many more calories! Mystery solved for me. I am eating healthy foods for these calories and not junk. In these 2 weeks I have dropped 2 lb.

That is AWESOME!! You are well on your way!! It has been very interesting double tracking!

I like this video. Very interesting. But why do we need to have the strength to not eat a 200-calorie dessert if we have the calories available? Why not just have the treat and enjoy it? Why does it only have to be an occassional thing? I suppose if eating triggers a food craving or something, that would be bad. But what if it doesn't? What if it's just a 200-calorie treat that you plan into your day? Why is that wrong? Why do we have to resist this?
@RiseandShineSuburbanHomestead2 жыл бұрын
We don't not have to eat it but for me, sweets are an occasional thing. I don't feel my body needs the sweet/sugar every day. For me, if I were to have it everyday, it would lose its "fun" and it would cause me to go looking for more, for something special, since my sweet treat has now become ordinary. Not everyone feels the same way and I respect that. It's just what works for me!

I agree with everything you said. As a Healthcare professional, it bothers me a lot that good whole food is not what is preferred. It seems like your health is not a priority for them. Your money is. I found that if I stick to my points the calories are way under. That is when I gain weight. I figured out what my BMR is. And stick to calories with a balanced, healthy diet. Thank you. I was wondering if I was weird.

Funny, I always hated the recipes at meetings and I found a meeting where hardly any recipes are mentioned. I’m so much happier. I do no artificial sweeteners and try to use butter or margarine (is that good to use?), regular cheese and olive oil, usually not much in the light family. It’s a choice I’ve made. I just don’t like the flavor, which is why the recipes always bothered me. I add points with extra veggies and water.

Thanks Joan for your perspective and research!! Definitely agree with you. Been a WW member for many years and I find the PP plan to be my least favorite. I do have a Lose It membership and integrate healthy habits that I have learned. I feel WW has become so restrictive. Love the freedom with calorie counting and watching macros. Gives you a better snapshot into your day. I, too, cook recipes. Never have been a processed food person. These are my opinions 😊

Thank you so much for this video! I've started WW with a lot of Greger/McDougall/Ornish knowledge in my head . I tried to do Starch Solution- I was avoiding oils etc but I was overeating on my servings. WW is really helping me relearn what a serving size should be- amazing how few cheetos are in a reasonable serving (maybe just shouldn't have cheetos lol) but some days on WW my body was telling me I was way undereating for my energy needs. I'm gluten free for my eczema I cant do artificial sweetners because of migraines. It has seemed like WW rewards some artificial franken-foods when I should be letting myself have a piece of oat bread with a hardy amount of peanut butter but that's a lot of points so I would freak out a little. I'm going to play out the rest of my WW 3 month subscription but I am going to start paying more attention to my calories and body cues and keep weighing my food and learning what a serving size is. OK I've rambled way to much but just wanted to say a sincere thank you. You're my favorite KZbinr!!
@RiseandShineSuburbanHomestead2 жыл бұрын
Right - who can eat that few amount of Cheetos and be happy - lol! Yes I am so grateful for WW for so much knowledge they gave me - especially with serving sizes! But I too was cutting the good, nutrient dense foods in favor of lower points.
@janeneumann50242 жыл бұрын
I have also been double tracking for awhile. I don't eat as clean as you do but I do prefer the whole foods such as real butter and peanut butter rather than the lower point substitutes. I am not sure if I will stay with WW but look forward to see how they tweak it this fall.

Excellent video! I lost a lot of weight doing WW Purple and loved the program. It made sense. Healthy foods were zero points or low points. Most of the healthy foods that I eat are now significantly higher in points on the Personal Points program. Even though I am eating the same old, same old foods that I ate and lost all of that weight. I now go over, sometimes way over my points allowance even though calorie wise I am under my ideal daily target. I am thankfully Lifetime at this point in my journey so the program is free for me or I can assure you that I would not be doing WW any longer if I had to pay for it. The Personal Points program makes no sense to me. I also started doing Healthi and track calories which I pay more attention to these days than the points and have been successfully maintaining for a year and a half.

I find that even healthier choices than junk get bad rep too. Like you said cheese and milk....those foods aren't bad for us yet WW jacks up points and I feel like they up the points so you avoid those foods all together if that makes sense
@RiseandShineSuburbanHomestead2 жыл бұрын
Yes! Exactly, But the bars and candy that are "true" junk food are low in points!
@taylorann1152 жыл бұрын
I like personal points better than the previous programs(aside from points and points plus..I loved that) but I 💯 agree with everything you’re saying. I also think that they should consider calories more than they do. I may want a real yogurt with some fat in it and a bit of sugary fruit (shocker I know).. and I do t feel like it should take half my daily points. I also may want a real soda occasionally and it’s over half of my daily points and is around 170 calories. IF I drank 2 there would be no points for food and I’ve only consumed 340 calories. That’s just an example but I don’t like how they say you can eat whatever u want and it’s not a diet. Sorry but that’s just not true. Lol. I would get frustrated when I would make oatmeal from scratch with real cows milk and toss in some raisins. It’s healthy but was high in points.

Joan Hi there! I never comment on your posts but here goes. Someone that just joined WW was not given the quiz to take but was given 23 sp sounds like Freestyle coming back. It was a post they put on Facebook and lost it so not sure about zero point foods etc. They called WW since they did not get the quiz etc and was told certain people are being picked as always. I will let you know more when I hear more. I am doing both right now since I am lifetime like you are and I am slowly picking up weight with this WW program. I have same concerns as you on not eating junk with calories/points. I say doing the same thing you always did will get you what you always got. You have to change your lifestyle. Watch you later!

I call it being "Pointed Out"....... I think we all know what we should be eating, but obviously we aren't. I only seem to maintain on Personal Points. I had the most success on original points and points plus. But you still get "pointed out". I've tried Noom too - the prices were all over the place and I didn't like the food categories and I had a terrible coach. I've thought of calorie counting.....but not sure. Thanks for the ifo!!
@RiseandShineSuburbanHomestead2 жыл бұрын
Love that - "Pointed out"! I thought I was going to be overwhelmed by calorie counting, but I think with all the WW experience with the app, it made it much easier! Putting in the foods for calories is just like putting them in for points!

I started MyFitnessPal after talking to a dietician and have been surprised at how few calories I eat. She suggested I go to 1400-1450 cal and I was doing good to get 1200 by my regular WW eating. I love seeing the % of fat, carb & protein, that has also been eye opening. I’m going to give it 30 days and see if I can ever get this extra 10 off. Thanks for your thoughts.

I went back to WW for the meetings and the weekly accountability but I agree with you that WW does not foster truly healthy eating. I track on my fitness pal as well as WW because I love knowing my macros. Zero point foods are not zero calorie foods. I think WW fosters a blinders on approach to food. Knowledge is power/control. I totally agree with the calories vs points comparison. I also don’t like being rewarded with food(more points) for healthy food choices.
