Kenneth Branagh and the like can play-act Poirot all they want. They will never come anywhere near the genius and brilliance of David Suchet. The care he took in playing this character and the passion will never be equalled.

Poirot and me would be correct: if your friend pointed to a photograph of you and said who is that, would you reply "that's I as a baby"? No, you'd say "that's me". Then "and this is a picture of my family and me". You only use I as the subject of the verb. As in David could say "I wonder whether Poirot and I would be friends in real life? I do hope Poirot would like me. I wonder what the relationship between Poirot and me would be. Are you asking me my thoughts on the subject of Poirot and me?" Etc. As you say, Poirot would demand correct grammar ;)

me and my mum sit down and watch poirot everytime it is on! we love poirot and we always have a pen and some paper to try and workout who the murderer is. :)

Kudos to the Agatha Christie family for choosing this remarkable man to bring Poirot to life. I wish my mom (may she rest in peace) never got to see these, and was never pleased by previous characterizations. Mr. Suchet, you nailed it! Yes, I agree Peter Ustinov was nothing like the character, and Albert Finney came very close, but I will always picture Mr. Suchet when I reread the novels.

I think as with all things the actor that made you fall in love with a character is usually your favourite. James Bond for instance...is Sean Connery, but people who started watching with Roger Moore love him. As for Poirot my introduction to him was Albert Finney in MotOE. I loved & still love that film. Suchet is much more like the book version though. Having said that I eagerly waited to see what Suchet would do with MotOE & I got to admit..it was a big dissappointment. Still keep em coming.

@anshool21 Heyy I'm from India too :D That bit of demostration from 4:04 - 4:37 JESUS CHRIST what an actor!!!!! Suchet is such a natural and having grown up watching him as Poirot, I can't get to grips with his real English accent LOL. But coming back to that bit of demostration...he's such a show off just like Poirot isn't he :D? I can't wait for Captain Hastings to return in Curtain, hopefully, Miss Lemon and CI JAPP in one final bow to finish this epic series. That'd be splendid.

I know, I know. It's only entertainment. Agatha Christie was not a great writer, and Poirot is only a small slice of a real person. But good work is good work wherever it is done. David Suchet and his team have created such a wonderful entertainment, with such exquisite humor, attention to detail, and pacing. . I have enjoyed hour upon hour of these wonderful productions, and I continue to marvel at Suchet's dedication, skill and professionalism! Thank you 1,000 times, David Suchet!!!!!

Ironically, Suchet played Inspector Japp in Thirteen at Dinner and calls it the worst performance of his career. He truly bounced back in his role.

In the very least his portrayal of Poirot is, and I would agree, dead eye spot on. But should the quality of an actor be consistently measured by the mastery of a particular role, or should it be measured by the quality, capability, and diverse proficiency of multiple roles, Anthony Quinn for example?

David Suchet is a versatile character actor and has done many other roles than Poirot.You have to explore his other work in film and on stage to get an idea of his range, there's a lot more to him than the character Christie made. The sad thing is imo that most ppl only see/know him as Poirot, very few know him for anything else. Try google him, there is at least two fansites that don't focus on Poirot only but tells about his other film- and stage roles as well.
