I almost saw Poison Idea in the basement of Dirge Manor (14th and the train yards south of Division) the night of the fire--I think it started in the garage where, if memory serves, Tom was living at the time. I had heard them that night from up stairs and stupidly thought, I see these guys all the time. I see them at the Met... I'm sure I'll see them again. I did see them again many times but that was always a big regret I have lugged around, that I didn't see them THAT momentous night. I was in Victims of Society, I think we were the openers that night. It was our practice space. The singer for Victims of Society worked at a pizza place and brought over some pizza for the house the next day. A few years later I saw them play a party on what was 39th near Holgate or Gladstone. I remember being blown away by the power of Dean's drumming and the sound of Tom's guitar. Tom had a special SOUND. It was crunchier and saw-bladier and harder than anything I have ever heard. It had this certain powerful soul-grinding buzz that just ripped shit up and disintegrated feelings into a pink cloud of invincible euphoria, especially live. Hard to recreate that on records. Requiescat in Pace punk soul brother.

That Marshall cabinet the time is used to belong to me it was pretty cool if it’s the tweed front one with a small logo wow the mat we were the second band to play there after Chris Newman’s van when they had to go play at the Paramount they gave me the gay kristin they haven’t done many bands at that place yet and the trouble is right

I know the feeling. We believe we're all gonna live forever and people are invincible. It's so weird, really, how ignorant and detached from reality we are. Most of these artists such as Pig, GG and so on lived life so every day could be their last. I live in a tiny town in a tiny country called Norway so there's not much going on here. And that's an understatement. Yet, when Amy Winehouse came here back in 2008, I was sick so I didn't go to her show. I'll always get another shot, she's young with a long career in front of her. Yeah, right. The fact that I didn't go see her is one of my biggest regrets. I'm sure I'll be sitting in the nursing home at 86 years old nagging about not going to see Amy. At least you got to see Poison Idea! I'm sure it was an amazing experience. I SO wish I could've seen all the crazy, insane, great punk bands of the 70s, 80s and 90s. Especially GG! But being a teenager back then it wasn't possible for me to go from Norway to The US. I really, really envy the people who lived through the punk era in London in the 70s. Can you imagine? And then the 80s and early 90s in The US! And also the late 60s in The UK when Sabbath started. Also Hendrix, Joplin, Purple, Zeppelin, absolutely insane how great music they made back in the day. There's no one that makes new, inventive music these days. Neither rock, heavy, metal or punk have any bands that are doing something different or new. Not that I know about. You probably know a lot about music so please introduce me to some great music! Hopefully something new, but I'm open to everything. I wish you a great day! Rock on! All

speaking of mexican- we (6 or 7 bands over the years) always went to El burrito loco on N. Lombard during our breaks while recording with Mike Lastra at his Smegma Studios. Man, talk about a struggle, trying to play hardcore beats or double bass metal after 1 of those 5lb. burrito gut bombs! (they're the equivelant of a double strength benzo for poor punk rockers: "guys, PLEEEEZE! can we do this manana? I REALLY just wanna take a nap!!!") I'm sure anyone who's recorded there can relate. Smegma and El burrito loco seem to go hand in hand as a right of passage for just about every underground band since the 70's!

Once (around 1995) I was recording at Smegma, and my Telecaster wasn't cutting it on a certain songs, and the SG I'd borrowed wouldn't stay in tune, and Mike came downstairs and pulled out this giant guitar case. He opens it up, and it's Tom's Iceman. I'm looking at it like someone's just offered me a chance to play Hendrix's Strat. It sounded and played awesome. It'd obviously been destroyed and reconstituted several times, but it was great. I used it on a song or two. I've had a "no pre-show burrito" rule at shows ever since that one time...

thank you very much at first I didn't realize it was a sarcastic remark or if it was real but I just assume it's real because I do so much of it and well if I don't tell the stories no one will know there were a lot of people who kind of got mad that I knew Tom from 1978 I don't know why I mean really he was actually Magazine from Malice his friend first and how he knew him was from a guy name Matt Rogers and matt is the guy we got from the marshal cabinet that I sold the time andI still have a 200 W Sound said he had I traded him Matt Rogers I think through the the tour T-shirt for the John homes tour which I wore to shreds it was a giant schlong sneaking through America now used to hang out with Tom quite a bit in tilde till the Darkside started hanging out over there and knowing my tendencies I probably would've beat them all to the grave if I would've hung out then because I just can't say no thanks Mark

For about 20 years you could rent a building really cheap I lived in a 10,000 square-foot warehouse for $400 a month on eighth and Hawthorne I had shows I had a club it was a bring your own it's great there was a ton of clubs like that they were really close it's just a place for Van Slade I had a huge VA and 16 lights now please go for 9000 a month for the floor but things changed here and of course you got to go to the house because nobody can afford the rent on a place anymore this is only the beginning of all the dead clubs the earthquake ordinance is killing them all they're even going to take the killer down and put apartments up upPortland sucks that way that's why we have so many homes are used to be 1000 or 1500 cheap rooms guys can go and fly pet for four dollars a night but not now no we have pretty apartments everywhere makes me sick

Tom and he came from the early longer by saying we were too young to get in there but they didn't really check ID they Chyna winked at you as long as he didn't trash the place no problem but the last got really strict to get really really strict here man really I mean you could pretty much do whatever you want in about 1979 what time, and I went to a Ramones show at the Earth Tavern they didn't say anything about it being not all either so he won't take it three months in advance waiting for hours in line at the day of the show and the guy said I want to see your ID from when I went to my house andHis big idea was let's color bomb threat in 1980 they didn't do anything they just laughed at you
