The "deserializing object of type string" wasn't Engrish, that was an error message from the translator that got stuck in as valid output. That's the message you get when bing's translator service gets messed up by trying to send bad output. That's amazing.

Beedrills japanese name is actually the english word Spear. Same with Umbreon called "Blacky" in japan. A bunch of translations here are just romanizations or literal translations. The japanese names are in many cases very simple, like gloom being kusaihana (stinky flower) or the 3 legendary birds just called the english words Fire, Thunder and Freezer.

The Japanese names for a lot of early generation pokemon are pretty Engrishy. Someone already mentioned that Beedrill is "Spear," but there many others that are arguably worse. The Legendary Birds being "Freezer," "Thunder," and "Fire" is quite laughable. Drowzee and Hypno are "Sleep" and "Sleeper" respectively. The worst ones are Gastly and Haunter, who are "Ghos" and "Ghost" respectively.
